This document provides information about the Future Leaders Exchange (FLEX) program, which allows high school students from Ukraine to spend a school year living with an American host family and attending high school in the United States. It describes the application process, which involves multiple rounds of English language testing, essay writing, and interviews. If selected as a finalist, students receive a J-1 visa and participate in an orientation before traveling to the US to improve their English skills, learn about American culture, and develop leadership abilities by participating in extracurricular activities and volunteering during their year abroad.

15. ROUND 1: TESTING
15 multiple choice (a,b,c,d) questions to test your English
Testing centers are in ever oblast center
Americans give the tests
You find out your results on the same day

16. ROUND 2: ESSAYS
Write 3 American style essays on specific topics within a set amount of
time.
Write the Essays at the testing center
Usually the day after the multiple choice test

17. 3RD ROUND:
3-6 weeks after the 2nd round
American staff travels to oblast centers
Meeting between parents, participant and staff
Parents receive an application that must be completed in 2 weeks
2 small essays
English test on listening and writing
Interview in English and Russian/Ukrainian
Group activity with other participants

18. FINAL STAGE
All information is sent to Washinton D.C. where the FLEX staff makes their
decisions
Finalists are notified in May
Last year, over 200 finalists were chosen
If you are selected as a finalist, you need to get a J-1 visa
During the summer before you go to America, there will be an orientation in
Kiev
