The nerve-center of our operations is the Flameback Integrated System for Trading (FIST). This software, developed in house, gives us the ability to completely black box investment strategies and automate the entire process from trade detection to client reporting. FIST is a framework for algorithmic trading. It allows the specification of an algorithm in the form of code in an easy to read format. This algorithm can then be backtested using historical market data, ‘paper’ traded on live markets or traded on the market by deploying capital. It is important for an algorithm used for trading to be consistent across development and deployment and the system uses a single instance of the algorithm, regardless of the mode in which it is being run, to guarantee this. The system generates statistics and reports for algorithms which are useful for iteratively developing algorithms as well as monitoring and tracking algorithms once they are deployed on the market.
