The document discusses Northland's coastline in New Zealand, including its geographic features, habitats, and importance. It notes that Northland's coast extends from Kaipara and Mangawhai Harbours in the south to Cape Reinga in the north, and includes inlets, estuaries, sand dunes, rocky shores, sandy beaches, and 17 harbors. Various organizations work to protect and manage the coast, including the Northland Regional Council, Department of Conservation, district councils, and local communities through initiatives like CoastCare. The coast is important for recreation, culture, wildlife habitat and migration.
Northland's coastal sand dunes are formed by the interaction of wind and waves over time. They range from the vast, windswept dunes of places like Poutō Peninsula to smaller dunes along beaches like Mangawhai Heads. Native plants play a crucial role in building and stabilizing dunes, while the dune ecosystems provide habitat for birds, insects, reptiles, and other wildlife. However, human activities like vehicles, stock, and introduced pest plants threaten dune habitats. Organizations like CoastCare and the regional council work to protect and restore Northland's dunes through community planting days, weed control, and education.
Northland's coastline extends over 3,200 kilometers from Kaipara Harbour in the south to Cape Reinga in the north. Each of Northland's beaches has unique characteristics that are shaped by geological processes like erosion, as well as factors like weather, ocean currents and swells, surrounding landforms, freshwater inputs, and human activities. Coastal ecosystems are home to many plants and animals, some of which are rare or endangered. Multiple organizations work together under the CoastCare partnership to protect and restore Northland's beaches.
Northland's 3200km coastline is a treasured natural resource home to unique plants and animals. It faces threats from introduced pests, inappropriate development, pollution, and erosion. The Northland Regional Council works to manage these threats through plans and policies, and supports groups like CoastCare who control pests and educate communities. Small actions by many can help protect Northland's coasts.
Vines are useful for landscaping as groundcovers or for covering fences and walls, and providing shade on arbors and trellises to cool patios and decks. However, vines can grow vigorously and sprawl, twine, climb, or attach themselves to surrounding structures. The document lists several types of vines, including Almondra Vine, Jugmensiya Vine, Mandoliya Vine, Savera, and Bigoniya Venesta.

Wales has a varied coastline suitable for sea fishing. The rocky coasts, beaches, and estuaries are home to various species throughout the year, depending on factors like tides, weather, and season. Anglers are advised to learn about local tidal patterns and currents, as ignorance can lead to dangers like being cut off by the tide. Safety should be the top priority for any fishing trip in Wales.
The rivers in the High Rockies are experiencing record high flows in June due to warm weather and snowmelt. Most rivers are unfishable due to high turbidity. The Taylor River, which is moderated by a dam, has good visibility but high flows of around 1400 CFS. Nymphing is the most effective technique, using stonefly or BWO nymphs to match the subsurface food available. Fish are holding deep and feeding on the bottom, so patience and getting flies to the correct depth is important. Conditions should slowly improve over the next few weeks as flows decrease and hatches emerge.
Northland's estuaries provide rich, productive environments. They are formed where freshwater rivers meet saltwater seas, creating areas where fresh and salt water mix. Estuaries support many interconnected plants and animals, and were important places for early Māori and European settlement. However, estuaries now face threats from pollution, development, and invasive species. The Northland Regional Council works to sustainably manage these fragile ecosystems.
The document discusses four coastal habitats: mangrove forest tidal swamp, beach and fore dune coastal marine habitat, tidal creek estuarine substrate, and coastal hammock maritime forest. It describes the key plant and animal species found in each habitat and some of the environmental factors and threats that influence each ecosystem.
Beam trawls use a beam to keep the mouth of the net open as it is dragged along the seabed. Tickler chains or heavy chain matting are attached to adapt the trawl for different seabed types like sand, mud, or rough rocky ground. Common species caught using beam trawls include plaice, lemon sole, monkfish, and skate.

Plum Island State Park is located in Massachusetts and contains over 30,000 acres including a long narrow barrier island and the largest salt marsh in New England. The island was originally used for grazing but is now an important habitat for birds and protects inland areas from storms and tides. Though originally shaped by glaciers, the landscape is now influenced by tides eroding and depositing sediment, making the barrier island retreat inland over time. The park provides opportunities for recreation like beach going and boating while conserving important coastal ecosystems.

• Sidney Elyea is a longtime Minnesota entrepreneur who serves as the project
manager at RJ Ryan Construction, Inc. Passionate about the outdoors, Sidney
(Sid) Elyea enjoys fishing for largemouth bass on Lake Minnewashta.
Located in Carver County, Lake Minnewashta spans 679 acres and reaches 70
feet deep. The large regional park offers a pair of boat launches that can be used
by anglers on the lake.
One challenging aspect of fishing Lake Minnewashta is the heavy milfoil
vegetation on the northern and southern ends. Because bass like to group under
the protection of these mats of vegetation, fishers need to pitch heavy bass jigs.
The jig must be worked through the vegetation until it reaches the bottom. The
strategy involves the subtle pumping of the rod tip and moving of the lure.
When this does not generate results, the same process can be repeated until a
bass takes the bait.
