The Fish Left Behind
One day Wesley was watching TV and looked over at the fish bowl. He realized
it could use a good cleaning. He went to grab the spare fish bowl to put the fish into
while he cleaned the other one. He took a cup and moved the fish one by one to the spare
bowl. When he got to the last fish though he realized that it was quite a bit bigger than
the others. He wondered to himself if this fish was taking over the fish bowl. What if the
others couldnât thrive because of this one fish?
Wesley put his thoughts aside for the moment and moved the last fish, Larry, to
the spare fish bowl. He proceeded to clean the bowl to make sure the fish wouldnât get
sick. As he cleaned though he kept thinking about the safety of the other four fish:
Molly, Nemo, Goldie, and Ick. So he came up with a plan.
When it came time to switch the fish back over to the original bowl Wesley just
moved Larry over. He thought this would keep him from overtaking the fish bowl, and it
would allow the other fish to grow to his size. He put both fish bowls back in their
original spot on the mantel and went back to watching his TV program.
After a little while Wesley decided he wanted a snack. While he was in the
kitchen making a sandwich he heard SPLASH! He went to the living room to see what
had happened. He was afraid the cat, Lilly, had attacked the fish bowl like she has so
many times before. When he got there he saw Lilly sitting on the arm of the couch,
which is nowhere near the fish bowl. He thought he must have been imagining things.
So he went back to the kitchen to finish his sandwich. As soon as he turned around
though he heard SPLASH! He turned around real quick and couldnât believe his eyes.
Larry was jumping up in the air as if he was trying to get into the other bowl. Wesley
thought surely thatâs not whatâs happening, but he decided to try something out. He
pushed the fish bowls real close together so that they were touching. Then he waited.
It was as if he was having a staring contest with Larry. So he decided to turn
around and wait. Almost instantly he heard a big SPLASH! He spun back around and
was in awe at what he saw. Larry was not in his original fish bowl but back in the spare
fish bowl with Molly, Nemo, Goldie, and Ick.
Wesley realized at this moment that keeping these fish separated was going to be
a very unlikely event. They were like family. They had to stay together. Larry sure put
up a fight to get back where he belonged. If only Wesley had taken a picture to show
when he tells everyone about this eventful day.
