5. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE
• Tourism Development Act, Cap. 341
– Encourages the sustainable development of the
tourism industry;
– Provides duty-free concessions;
– Provides income tax concessions;
– For approved tourism projects and certain
tourism entities.
6. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE (Cont’d)
• Sec. 31 (c) of the Tourism Development Act
provides an income tax concession for tourism
projects which develop linkages between the
tourism sector and other economic sectors.
7. FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE AVAILABLE (Cont’d)
• Sec. 3 (3) of the Act states:
“The Minister may, with the approval of the Cabinet,
declare by order any service or facility to be a tourism
project for the purposes of this Act.”

• Trust Loan Scheme
– Is designed for all persons who are engaged in
or seeking to become engaged in legitimate
entrepreneurial business activity.
– Up to $5,000 loan financing available to first
time applicants.
– No security required.

• Trust Loan Scheme (Cont’d)
– 5% interest rate.
– Negotiable repayment moratorium.
– Upon repayment of the first loan you qualify for
a second loan of up to $10,000.

• Fund Access
– Caters to the development of micro and small
businesses.
– Offers a variety of business loans.
– Business Innovator loan is designed for persons
involved in the creative industries inter alia.

• Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants
Programme
– Provides financial and technical support to
projects that conserve and restore the
environment while enhancing people's well-
being and livelihoods.

• Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants
Programme (Cont’d)
– provides grants of up to $50,000 directly to local
communities including indigenous people,
community-based organizations and other non-
governmental groups;

• Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants
Programme (Cont’d)
– the grants fund projects in areas including
Biodiversity, Climate Change Mitigation and
Adaptation, Land Degradation and Sustainable
Forest Management.

• Fund Access: Provides training in varied business
areas as a prerequisite of loan approval.
• GEF Small Grants Programme: Provides technical
support.
• Barbados Tourism Marketing Inc. (BTMI) –
Product Division: Provides technical assistance.
