Your Turn, 23
INT. DAY (afternoon) – VIEW FROM PARENTS’ BEDROOM.
23
(Narrating)
You can get a good view of everything from my
parents’ room.
EXT. DAY (afternoon) – BOY PLAYING WITH TOY.
23
(Narrating)
I remember seeing a kid from one of the other
houses, just playing, by himself. Bit sad really.
EXT. DAY (afternoon) – MAN DRINKING, SHOT THROUGH HIS WINDOW
23
(Narrating)
And, god, I remember I saw something horrible. One
of the neighbors’ wifes ran away with someone
else. I’m not sure if he’s stopped drinking to
this day.
INT. DAY (morning) – 23’S BEDROOM.
23 walks in to his room with a cup of tea and sets it on
the windowsill before looking out of it.

(Narrating)
I prefer the view from my room though. Not that I
don’t enjoy the kind of things I can see from my
parents’ room. But, no matter where I am, I don’t
think I’ll experience anything like this again.
Bloody hope not anyway.
EXT. DAY – 74 LOOKING OUT OF HER WINDOW.
23
(Narrating)
I didn’t think anything of it at first. Just
someone opening her window. But she kept looking.
For what, I’m not sure. But she seemed to find
something when she saw me.
74 starts brushing her wet hair, leading to her taking off her
dressing gown and revealing herself to 23, which makes him
very nervous and uncomfortable.
23
(Narrating)
This has never happened to me before, incase that
doesn’t go without saying. She started brushing
her wet hair at me and I couldn’t help but find it
oddly mesmerizing.
74 breaks her seductive character and grabs a whiteboard and
pen to write ‘Your Turn, 23’

(Narrating)
And then she called me by my house number! How
does she know!
EXT. DAY – WALKING TO THE TRAIN STATION TO GO TO COLLEGE.
23
(Narrating)
The journey up to college is lonely. And long.
Always is. And I can’t tell you how disappointed I
still was at myself by this point. I wouldn’t have
taken my hoodie off for her or whatever she
wanted, I just wanted to talk a bit. With someone.
But that’s never been my strong-suit I suppose,
nothing new.
INT. DAY – TRAIN
23 is visibly distressed and can’t shake his thoughts of
embarrassment and disappointment.
EXT. DAY – WALK TO COLLEGE.
23 is on his own, as he always is, walking in to college.
EXT. DAY – BENCHES OUTSIDE THE REFECTORY.
Joe and Emily are chatting to each other very smoothly and it
makes 23 feel pathetic that he can’t do such a simple thing.

(Narrating)
You don’t notice things as much unless they matter
to you, that’s something that this whole thing
taught me. It sounds wise, but I think it’s just
sad.
INT. DAY – CLASSROOOM
TEACHER
Can anyone tell me who this is?
23 answers the question but his voice breaks as he does it and
the whole class laughs, even the teacher.
JOSH
Twat.
Whole class
*Laughter*
EXT. DAY – WALKING BACK TO THE STATION
23
(Narrating)
Maybe it just wasn’t my day, but I really felt
like a failure. Like that was it, id never have a
friend, never anyone to talk to, I’d just stay
looking through peoples’ windows my whole life!

EXT. DAY – TRAIN STATION
23 is having trouble finding a song he wants to listen to
because he is so upset.
23
(Narrating)
I felt as though I had no interests anymore. Or
that nothing interested me. One of the two, at
least. I didn’t enjoy the feeling of going home
like I always do. I didn’t enjoy listening to
music like I always do…
23 walks on to the train and the doors close behind him.
INT. DAY – TRAIN
23
(Narrating)
…And it just all got to me.
23 has a minor breakdown on the train and starts becoming
aggressive, and cries.
INT. DAY – 23’S BEDROOM
23 enters again with a cup of tea and sits it on the
windowsill like before.

(Narrating)
When I got home, I just had to try and be normal,
act how I usually would, I mean. Unfortunately,
this involved looking out of my window again,
which – I’m not embarrassed to say – terrified me.
But I can’t tell you how happy I was after all
this.
EXT. DAY – 74’S WINDOW
74 has propped the whiteboard up on her windowsill so that 23
can read it. It reads ‘I’m 74’.
23 is shown smiling very happily, cut to black.
