LOVE/DEATH: THE TRISTAN PROJECT BY Bill Viola Like Viola's previous works, they range from room-sized video projections of image and sound to small, silent flat panel screens, and seek to deeply engage the viewer in a visceral and emotional experience that goes to the roots of the human condition, and its spiritual sources. Most of the works in 'LOVE/DEATH: The Tristan Project' arose from the hours of material that Viola produced for a new production of Richard Wagner's nineteenth century opera, 'Tristan und Isolde'.
