Germany craftily avoided France's strong defensive lines after World War 2 and attacked through Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands instead. While these countries resisted the German advance, they were ultimately no match for Germany's tanks. As a result, France underestimated German military power and soon fell under Hitler's control, with Germany establishing a puppet government at Vichy France.
