THE QUARTERBACK PINCH
Christopher Neal & Lyric
Smith
Darconn Youngblood is very skilled on the football field
and was scouted to play for Reinke College. He quickly
took on the quarterback role and started bringing in
immense profits for the college. Things were going well
until his mother fell ill over the summer and it wasn’t
looking like she would get any better. Darconn never knew
his father and was raised by his mother. Therefore, he has
a very close connection to her. He has younger siblings but
they are almost incapable of taking care of her. Losing
Darconn would mean losing money, and the president told
Brad (the athletic director who scouted Darconn) that if
Darconn were to leave; Brad would lose his job. Brad has
to decide if he should support Darconn to leave the school
and take care of his mother ten hours away, or lose his
job.

Solution
Reasons to Support Darconn
• College will always be available.
• Younger siblings are almost
incapable of taking care of the
sick mother.
• Potential of his mom not getting
better.
A COLLEGE EDUCATION WILL ALWAYS BE AVAILABLE.
• He can always take a semester or a year off.
• Will have enough money in financial aid to go
back to school if he needs to.
• If he does not receive financial aid, he
already has his associates degree.
• He may or may not have the opportunity to
become a professional football player, but at
least he’ll know that his mother is in good
health.
YOUNGER SIBLINGS ARE ALMOST
INCAPABLE OF TAKING CARE OF SICK
MOTHER
• “Little to no support” for
Darconn’s mother ten hours away.
• The “strong urge” Darconn has to
go back home is because of the
strong connection with his
mother.
• Darconn not only needs to be a
good son but also a good role
model.
Potential of His Mom Not Getting
Better
• His mother’s illness may not get better.
• Bigger regret if Darconn stays and his mother
passes.
• Without his mom all the support and fans will
mean nothing.
BENEFICIAL FOR BOTH BRAD AND DARCONN
• Both will have a good conscience.
• Brad will know that he did his job in putting the
student first.
• Darconn will know that he did right by his mother.
• Potential of bringing in students due to Brad’s
unselfishness.
• People want to go to a school that cares about
them.
Reasons Darconn Should Stay
• Has the
opportunity to go
to the NFL.
• Financially
beneficial for the
school.
• Coach will keep
his job, and
Darconn will keep
his scholarship.
NFL BENEFITS FOR
DARCONN’S FAMILY
• Needs of the family will be met.
• Financial situation will become
stable due to starting pay.
• Life-saving medical institution
for his mom.
FINANCIALLY BENEFICIAL FOR THE
SCHOOL
• The school has been
struggling financially the
past few years.
• School is receiving money
from multiple businesses
and alumni members thanks
to Darconn.
• If he leaves now, the
investments, and alumni
donations will diminish.
BENEFICIAL FOR BOTH COACH BRAD
AND DARCONN
• Coach Brad will keep his job.
• Continue to bring NFL scouts and alumni to the
school.
• Bring in more players to the school.
• Darconn will be able to keep his scholarship (full-
ride).
Full ride scholarship is hard to receive.
SOLUTION
so that our children can enjoy the same resources
and beauty that we have for generations.
Brad should try to keep Darconn at
Reinke College.
 If he leaves, there is no income to pay for the
medication the mother needs to survive
 Only option for mother to get better is to get a well paid
job
 Since Darconn is a senior, he will either go pro next
year, or receive his bachelor degree
 Either outcome (bachelor degree or going pro) will
provide him with enough money to support his mom’s
treatment, and provide a stable income for his sibling as
well
