The document summarizes ASU's new Sun Devil Fitness Complex, which opened in fall 2013 in response to student requests for a new fitness facility. The $25 million complex added 75,000 square feet to the existing Lincoln Family Center Downtown YMCA. It includes a gymnasium, cardio and weight rooms, indoor track, multi-purpose space, student lounge, locker rooms, and rooftop pool. The facility aims to help students maintain healthy lifestyles and fight the "Freshman 15" weight gain through its amenities and programs like intramural sports, group fitness classes, and special events.

While academics play a significant role, sports-related activities are also important in shaping the personality and character of a student. With the same ideology, REVA University emphasises on University sports and encourages its students to participate in various tournaments.
What are those amazing benefits that sports offer to students? Let us discuss them in detail.

Perception of the Students between the School’s Support in Academics and Spor...ijtsrd
In the emergence of the existing curriculum K to 12, where the students are the primary emphasis, the perceptions of the students are important in quality monitoring systems which are crucially needed to enable monitoring and evaluation of these important outcomes, such as the student activities. This study examined the perceptions of students regarding the support of the school between academic and sports activities. It focuses more on the school’s support towards sports activities on how will the school provide the students “a healthy mind in a healthy body†in motivating them, as well as to promote and sustain the sports activities. This would be beneficial to the students in order to provide them an engaging and conducive learning environment inside and outside the school premises aside from academic activities which are the encouragement to promote and sustain sports activities, as their perceptions become evident throughout the study. According to the perception of the students, it is clearly interpreted that the school gives more support in academic activities compared to sports activities therefore the school should promote and sustain the sports activities through training, enough training hours and sports activities, number of trainers, scope and time span of sports activities, and dissemination of information. Enterprise Story: ASU Sun Devil Fitness Complex
College is a big transition in most students’ lives and finding the time to eat right
and exercise can be a challenge. With the stress and trying to balance classes, work,
and working out students are often faced with the harsh reality of the Freshman 15.
ASU’s brand-new-state-of-the-art athletic facility is one option for fighting the
freshman 15. And it’s tried to stay flexible to accommodate students with complex
schedules.
ASU’s new Sun Devil Fitness Complex just opened downtown this past fall in
response to student’s requests for a new facility. The project cost an estimated $25
million and added approximately 75,000 square feet to the Lincoln Family Center
Downtown YMCA, according to a report by AZ Central.
According to AZ Central, the original YMCA building was built in 1955 and was
renovated in 2006. The new five-story facility has plenty of fitness amenities and
recreation for students. The new athletic facility includes a large gymnasium, cardio
and weight space, an indoor track, multi-purpose space, student lounge, locker
rooms, and a rooftop leisure pool. It also added some much needed classroom space
to the growing downtown campus.
According to Chad Ellsworth, director at the Downtown Sun Devil Fitness Complex
said that the SDFC was designed by students to have spaces that students would
enjoy.
Some of the new facility is open to the public, while some areas like classroom space
are reserved for students only.
2. In addition to all of the facilities they offer programs like intramurals, club sports,
special events, group fitness, personal training, aquatics, and safety education
classes to attract students based upon their interests.
The new facility was made to accommodate students for their daily exercise
routines and to hopefully motivate others to begin a daily exercise routine,
according to Ellsworth.
The Downtown SDFC is open from 5 a.m. to 11p.m., on Monday-Friday, 7 a.m. to
9p.m., on Saturdays and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., on Sundays. The YMCA next door has
the same hours as the SDFC and Ellsworth believes that these hours work well for
students who have busy schedules.
Lorenzo Craig, 19, an employee at the Downtown SDFC and a freshman Exercise and
Wellness major at ASU said that he feels like the gym does accommodate students
well and that if it doesn’t then they can always go over to the Lincoln Family Center,
YMCA next door to find what they need as well.
Arianna Cannady, 19, a student employee at the Downtown SDFC and a freshman
Public Affair and Public Policy major, says another benefit of ASU’s partnership with
the YMCA is students can take classes that are offered at the YMCA and they can also
use their weight rooms and basketball courts for recreational use. “I feel like the
gym has a lot of equipment and room for the students to work out in and they have a
variety of stuff for students to use,” said Cannady.
ASU also offers a variety of intramural sports to keep students active. Some of the
intramural sports offered include; flag football, capture the flag, basketball, soccer,
pickle ball, wiffle ball, and many others.
3. Craig said that they have a lot of students participating in intramurals. “Most of the
time it’s like an entire floor from Taylor Place, and they’ll just get into one big coed
group and play a sport,” said Craig.
Ellsworth said that they have developed a number of programs and events to get
students active and in the gym. They’ve had events like Glow-in the-Dark Dodge ball
tournament, a cardio challenge, spa nights and they are often in the Taylor Place
mall trying to advertise for their programs.
“Above all we want the facility to be a place where students feel welcome to come
hang out, work out, and advance their overall wellness,” Ellsworth said.
