WELCOME TO DRUG COURT
Welcome!
This program is based on the National Drug Court Model. The first Drug Court began
in 1989, and there are now over 2,500 Drug Courts across the United States. This
program has been designed to help you overcome the substance abuse problem
that led to your current placement on probation.
This handbook is provided to you to answer questions, address concerns, and
provide information about Drug Court. As a participant, you will be expected to
follow the instructions given in Drug Court by the Judge and comply with the
treatment plan that will be developed by you and your Counselor.
You will attend a Drug Court hearing on a regular basis, in order to discuss your case
with the Drug Court Judge. You will receive incentives or sanctions according to
how well you have followed the rules of the program.
Once you complete all of your requirements you will be considered for graduation.

GLOSSARY OF TERMS
Here are some words you may not have heard before.
Assessment: To gather information about your drug and alcohol use and to find the best
treatment for you.
Confidentiality: Therequirementnottodiscussspecificnamesandpersonalinformationlearned
during treatment and Court sessions with anyone outside of Counseling or Court.
Counselor: The person who provides your treatment services in group and individual sessions and
gathers information about your efforts.
Drug Court Judge: The judicial officer who presides over Drug Court
Drug Court Team: The group of professionals including the Judge, Probation Officer, Counselor,
Public Defender, and County Attorney who provide both the legal and treatment oversight for your
case.
Drug Testing: You will be required to call an assigned phone number seven days a week to see if
you must test that day. Any failures to call, failure to test or diluted drug tests will be considered
positive drug tests by the Drug Court team. Any incident report from TASC due to not following rules
or attempting to alter drug test will result in an automatic jail sanction. You will also have to submit to
random Breathalyzers which are designed to test for alcohol.
Incentives: The possible rewards the Drug Court Judge offers you for following the program rules.
Probation Officer: The person who monitors your progress through the program to make sure all
Drug Court requirements are being met.
Sanctions: The possible negative consequences the Drug Court Judge uses when you fail to follow
program rules.
Self-help or Support Groups: A group that provides support and an opportunity for personal
growth in your new drug-free lifestyle. Examples include Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics
Anonymous and SMART Recovery.
Treatment: Counseling that you will attend during your entire time in Drug Court. This may include
residential treatment, intensive outpatient substance abuse counseling, relapse prevention, family
counseling, individual counseling, anger management, domestic violence counseling, aftercare or any
other counseling that may be appropriate for you.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
PATHS
The Drug Court Program consists of four paths. Once you have completed the
requirements for each path you move to the next one. When you have completed all
the paths you can graduate from the program. Upon graduation from the program
your probation will be successfully terminated. The minimum amount of time it will
take to complete this program is one year.
Court Requirements for all paths
NO MATTER WHICH PATH YOU ARE ON, ALL OF THESE RULES MUST BE FOLLOWED
• You will attend court every 4 weeks or as directed.
• You will attend all treatment sessions as directed.
• You will report to your Probation Officer and bring all documentation (for example,
payments, support groups, community service hours, pay check stubs, medical
documentation, and/or any other required information).
• You will complete a drug test as ordered, must call 7 days per week.
• You will participate in a support group (at least one per month) as directed and provide
documentation to your Probation Officer at visit.
PATH 1
All above, plus:
• Minimum 8 weeks
PATH 2
All above, plus:
• Weeks 9-20
• You must have a stable residence.
• You will complete 10 hours of community service if ordered at sentencing.
• You must have 8 consecutive weeks of sobriety.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
PATH 3
All above, plus:
• Weeks 21-32
• You will complete a written Relapse Prevention Plan and have it signed by a Counselor
and Probation Officer.
• You must maintain full-time employment or be a full-time student, provide a paycheck
stub to your Probation Officer as directed.
• You must complete 50 hours of community service if ordered at sentencing
• You must have 12 consecutive weeks of sobriety.
PATH 4
All above, plus:
• Weeks 32-52
• You will attend court every 8 weeks as directed.
• You will complete Aftercare and/or any other recommended ancillary services such as
budget class, anger management, cognitive behavioral, parenting, job skills, or education.
• All your counseling fees must be at $0 balance one full week prior to graduation.
• All your community service hours must be completed one full week prior to graduation.
• You must have 20 consecutive weeks of sobriety.
GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
• You must successfully complete all treatment and path requirements.
• You must maintain 20 weeks clean and sober.
• You must reside in a stable residence and be employed or in school.
• Your counseling fees and restitution must be paid in full.
MISSED COUNSELING SESSIONS
• If you miss a session or are late, you will need to make up that session.
• If you must miss a session, please call your Counselor and Probation Officer to let them
know why you need to miss a session.
• It is very important to attend and participate in every session. Any missed sessions or lack
of participation will result in a sanction.

PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS
COURT ATTENDANCE
• You must be on time and dressed appropriately for court.
• Be prepared to discuss your progress with the Judge.
• Complete all tasks ordered in your Drug Court Contract and bring proof of completion to
your monthly visit with your Probation Officer.
• Leave food and drink outside the courtroom.
• Turn off cell phones, tablets, and /or other electronic devices.
• Missing your court date will result in the issuance of a Failure to Appear Bench Warrant.
• There are no children allowed in the courtroom.
• You must remain for the entire Drug Court hearing (unless on the A-list).
INCENTIVES
If you follow all the rules you may be rewarded with any of the following:
• Praise from the Judge in court.
• Being allowed to leave court early (A-list).
• Gift Cards
• Sobriety Tokens
• Graduation/Early Termination from Probation
SANCTIONS
Not following the rules may result in any of the following:
• Increased reporting to the court and /or Probation Officer
• Increased drug testing
• Writing a paper
• Curfew
• Attending Probation violation court
• Community service hours
• Jail time
• Revocation to prison

TASC (Treatment Assessment Screening Center) is the company hired to
complete the drug testing for Maricopa County.
You must call the TASC line every day (seven days a week)
Enter your PIN# and date of birth to find out if you need to test that day.

TASC (DRUG TESTING)

Rules and Agreements
• I understand I must call TASC (602-288-5686) daily, seven days a week.
• I understand that I bring a photo ID with me to TASC in order to test.
• I understand that I will be tested for the presence of drugs in my system on
a random basis according to procedures established by the Drug Court
Team.
• I understand that I will be given a location and hours to report for my drug
test.
• I understand that it is my responsibility to report to the assigned location at
the time given for the test.
• I understand that if I fail to call daily, or am late for a test or miss a test it
will be considered as a positive test for drugs/alcohol and that I may be
sanctioned.
• I understand that if I fail to produce a urine specimen or if the sample
provided is not of sufficient quantity, it will be considered as a positive test
for drugs/alcohol and that I may be sanctioned.
• I understand that if I produce a dilute urine sample it will be considered as a
positive test for drugs/alcohol and that I may be sanctioned.
• I have been informed that the ingestion of excessive amounts of fluids can
result in a diluted urine sample and I understand that my urine sample will
be tested to ensure the sample is not diluted.
• I understand that substituting or altering my specimen or trying in any way
to modify my body fluids for the purposes of changing the drug testing
result will be considered as a positive test for drugs/alcohol and will result
in jail sanctioning and could result in a petition to revoke your probation
