The Community Partnership Charter School Parents Teachers Community Cooperative is presenting its annual "Evening of Shorts" film festival fundraiser on May 23, 2007. The event will feature short films by local artists and CPCS students, as well as performances by the Third Grade Chorus, Emmanuel Youth Choir, and Creative Outlet Dance Company. Proceeds from the event will help establish a music training program and after-school tutoring program for CPCS students. The film festival and reception will take place from 6:30-9:00pm at the Kumble Theater at Long Island University in Brooklyn.

The Community Partnership Charter School will hold its fifth Evening of Shorts Film Festival on Wednesday
May 23rd, 2007 at the Kumble Theater at Long Island University, Brooklyn Campus. When the Parent Teacher
Community Cooperative started the Film Festival, it was a way for the parents, school and community to come
together through the arts. The Film Festival features short films created by members of the local community, par-
ents and teachers at the school.
This year we will feature 8-10 short films, two performances and a silent auction. It will be followed by a cocktail
reception at the conclusion of the program. The event will be held in the evening allowing aspiring filmmakers,
parents, teachers, and community members the opportunity to get together.
The event altogether is a monumental task and requires the support of numerous organizations. Parent fundraising
supports only a portion of the Film Festival costs. We are asking for support from organizations like yours that
appreciate the impact of the arts on children and their communities. Proceeds go toward funding of the musical
instrument program and tutoring programs. Our goal is to enhance the learning environment of students through an
intensive instrument learning program throughout the grades.
Community Partnership Charter School founded in 2000 by a dedicated group of Brooklyn parents and the
Beginning with Children Foundation as an alternative to the local elementary school. CPCS nourishes intellectual
curiosity and inspires its students to become self-directed, independent lifelong learners. CPCS delivers a high-
quality, well rounded education to 300 students of color from various backgrounds throughout Brooklyn, with ten
per cent receiving special needs help . Having an extended day from 8:15 to 4:00pm allows students extra time in

the surrounding community and CPCS students. It is our largest fundraiser of the year and the proceeds will go to
establish an individual musical instrument program (and hopefully a band) for our students as well as an after-school
tutoring program.
It is a great evening out for our parents and a chance to see wonderful films and great performances. This year we
will have a few students from the 3rd grade choir performing, Creative Outlet dance Theatre company will perform
and also the Emmanuel Youth Choir will sing a song with a few of our 5th graders. The event will be followed by a
silent auction and cocktail reception.
The tickets are $45 each and we are asking that each family buy at least one ticket. The venue holds 320 seats and
we would like to fill the theater. Our goal is to raise $15,000 through this event and donations. This will allow us to
leave a lasting legacy for our kids and let them have an opportunity to expand on their creativity. While we may not
have the enough space to do everything we would like in our current building, but we think this is important for our
kids as they develop and grow.
