Fierce Panda was formed in 1993 in London by three music journalists who wanted to start a record label. They released their first compilation album featuring new indie acts that same year. Despite only intending to release one album, the label gained popularity and signed bands such as The Bluetones, Ash, and Supergrass. In the 1990s, Fierce Panda became known for signing Britpop artists like Oasis and Coldplay. While later attempting to expand with sub-labels, the label returned its focus to releasing singles and albums from British and American indie bands into the 2000s and 2010s.
