This document summarizes a study comparing field-weighted readership (FWRI) to field-weighted citations (FWCI). The key findings are: 1) There is a strong correlation between publications read and cited, though readership may be influenced by size and geographic distribution of readers. 2) FWRI and FWCI are also strongly correlated when normalized for size, removing the effect of specialization. 3) FWRI has a small advantage over FWCI in most fields, especially agriculture and social sciences. Variations between countries also tend to hold true within fields.
