Feminist theory is a major branch of sociology that shifts the analytic lens away from the male viewpoint and toward that of women. Conflict theory, associated with Karl Marx, seeks to explain political and economic events in terms of an ongoing struggle over finite resources, emphasizing the antagonistic relationship between social classes, particularly the bourgeoisie and proletariat. Karl Marx began exploring sociopolitical theories at university and published the Communist Manifesto with Friedrich Engels before being exiled to London, where he wrote Das Kapital and lived until his death.
