THIRD WAVE
Maggie Humm
and Rebecca
Walker in
(2010) stated
that the history
of feminism
can be divided
into three
waves
FIRST WAVE
SECOND WAVE
19 century
1960s and 1970s
1990s
• The first waves comprised women's
suffrage movements of the nineteenth and
early twentieth century, promoting
women's right to votes.
• focused on the promotion of equal
contract and property rights for women.
• focused on gaining political power,
particularly the rights of women's suffrage.
• The second waves was associated
with the ideas and actions of the
women's liberation movement
beginning in the 1960's. the second
waves campaigned for legal and
social equality for women's.
• focused in the civil right movements.
• Gender and sexuality are the main
focus
• constructs women to be weak, for
men they are doctrine to be strong.
• it makes term masculine for the
stereotype men and feminine for
the stereotype of women.
Feminist thought links ideas to actions,
instead we should push for change toward
gender equality and not just talk about it.
Feminist believe that both men and women
should have the freedom to develop their
human interests and talents conflict with the
status.
Feminists oppose laws and cultural norms that
limit income, educational and job opportunities
for women.
Feminist feel that women should have
control over their sexuality and
reproduction.
• argues that all human have same rational ability.
• tends to look for the same equality between men
and women
• persuades women that they have capability to be
same equality and ability with men.
Radical feminists seek to abolish patriarchy by
challenging existing social norms and institutions,
rather through a purely political process.
this includes challenging the notation of traditional
gender roles, opposing the sexual objectification of
women, and raising public awareness about such
issues as rape and violence against women.
• focused on the class.
• wants to fade the class because labor
women have lover class than men.
• women get the salary lower than men.
• argues that social construction is the main
reason of injustice toward women.
• women have been condemned to their
oppressed status by the same social forces
and relations which have brought about the
oppression of one another, one race by
another, one nation by another.
Black Feminism
Claims it is the hardest movement even
from other feminism because the
oppression not only comes from the
white men but also comes from black
men.
I believe men and
women are different
but equal
