1. Press release
Communiqué de presse
Faurecia reinforces its commitment to China’s automotive market
Opens new Asian headquarters & China R&D Center for emissions control
technologies
Shanghai, April 12, 2011 – After a fruitful financial year in 2010 where sales in China
expanded by 58% to EUR 1.023 billion (CNY 9.6 billion), Faurecia is strengthening its
engagement with the local market. Today, the company inaugurated its new Asian
headquarters & China R&D Center for emissions control technologies, one of its four
business groups and key to the enhanced environmental performance of tomorrow’s
vehicles. Faurecia’s global CEO and representatives from Shanghai’s local government were
present at the opening ceremony.
Faurecia is the global leader in emissions control technologies, with a 25% market share.
That means that one in every four vehicles around the world features exhaust systems from
Faurecia. The Group confirms its strong ambitions in China, where the high value-added
market is expected to experience sustained growth due to stringent requirements and
regulations on environmental performance.
The establishment of this new Asian headquarters & China R&D Center represents a total
investment of EUR 5 million (CNY 46 million), including most recent investments in technical
equipment and testing.
“With this R&D Center in Shanghai Faurecia is further expanding its foothold in China in an
area key to making tomorrow’s vehicles cleaner – a key development for our emissions
control business. Faurecia has now fully localized product and innovation capabilities in
China to further strengthen its number one position in this field and bring leading-edge
solutions to Chinese customers,” said Yann Delabrière, Chairman and CEO of Faurecia.
Both an R&D and customer development center, the technical center in Shanghai is mainly
focused on anticipating international emissions standards and contributing to the advent of
cleaner vehicles. The technical center is adapted to cover the full spectrum of designs for
complete exhaust lines from the manifold to the tailpipe.
The Research & Development activities of the Center are focused on four key directions:
Developing emissions control solutions to comply with Euro 5 emissions regulations for
passenger cars and Euro 4 for commercial vehicles, expected to come into force in China
in 2012, to reduce hydrocarbons, particulate matter, carbon monoxide and nitrogen
oxides emissions while also preparing future emissions regulations such as Euro 6;
Improving energy performance of engines to contribute to reduced engine fuel
consumption, particularly through the development of advanced exhaust manifolds
(fabricated vs. cast manifolds);
Developing solutions that aim to substantially reduce CO2 emissions for vehicles
manufactured in China;
Designing future acoustic solutions that are more efficient and lighter, contributing to
designing a unique sound identity for our customer’s vehicles.
