Active in his field, Chuck Scroggs belongs to several professional organizations, including the Mason Contractors Association of America. The Mason Contractors Association of America (MCAA) is a nationwide trade association founded to bring together and represent mason contractors. The goal of the MCAA is to promote a safe working environment for mason contractors and to improve professional standards. The Fastest Trowel on the Block Competition hosted by the MCAA showcases the industry’s craftsmanship and tests the skill and speed of participants. The competition is held annually during the MCAA convention at the World of Concrete/World of Masonry in Las Vegas. The goal of the competition is for each mason to use an 8”x 8”x16” concrete masonry unit and a provided mortar to build as much of a 30 foot long wall as possible within twenty minutes. This challenge demands superior workmanship standards using ordinary masonry tools and practices. The Fastest Trowel on the Block competition is open to masons who are either MCAA members and non-members.
