Three Lions Clubs in Miri, Malaysia partnered with Miri Local Agenda 21 and Miri City Council to launch the "Sunday is No Plastic Bag Day" initiative on August 30, 2009. The event was held at Boulevard Shopping Mall and aimed to raise awareness of the dangers of excessive plastic use and encourage the public and retailers to reduce plastic consumption by using reusable bags. Over 2,000 people attended the event, including dignitaries from the Lions Clubs, Leo Clubs, Miri City Council, and the retail industry. The launch featured speeches and demonstrations of reducing plastic bag usage.
The 1 Malaysia Merdeka Children Colouring Contest was jointly organized by three Lions Clubs at the Boulevard Shopping Mall. Over 600 children participated in three age groups and enjoyed door prizes. The goals were to promote unity and the spirit of Merdeka. Winners had their photos taken with dignitaries including the Mayor and State Assemblyman. The event was a success in bringing the community together.
The Lions Club of Lutong Miri and Lions Club of Lambir Miri jointly organized an environmental tree planting project on July 20, 2009 at the Basketball Court in Lutong Miri. A total of six tanjung trees were planted with the participation of 17 people, including the International Director Hjh Ellis Suriyati Hj Omar and presidents from other Lions Clubs in the region. The goal of the project was to raise environmental awareness in the local community and create a comfortable outdoor space for public activities.

The 1 Malaysia 3R Fancy Dress Competition was hed at Level 3, Exhibition Hall,
Boulevard Shopping Mall. The contest was started from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm.
There are open to kids between age 3 – 6 years old. As per objectives, contestants
need to use recycle materials to produce their outfit. Contestants also entitled to a
door gift, include Ayam Brand Breakfast, F&N High Calcium Milk, Think In Motion’s
Cash Voucher & Pen, Flag and F&N Crunchy Ice-cream. There are 26 contestants.
