Both families had difficulty in paying rent and affording
for food and household items
They had to eat rice, beans and tortillas for several
months until they settled in
Today, the Contreras family lives in California and the
Urita family returned to Mexico
6. Education was difficult because Hispanics were not
allowed to go to school with the Whites
Discrimination was high against the Hispanics
Jobs were low wage for Hispanic people
7. The Contreras family were Mormons since decades
The Urita family were Catholic since decades
The Contreras family preached to the Urita family and got
them to join the Mormon church
Today, both families are Mormon
