This white paper discusses seven innovative ideas for associations to try during the recession to fight declining membership and revenues. These ideas include creating member "evangelists" to recruit new members, personalizing the member experience by visiting new members on-site, offering outrageous incentives like free hotel rooms to boost event attendance, offering discounts on dues for online payments, implementing member relief programs to retain engaged members, using e-marketing for virtual events, and questioning programs that no longer work in the current economy. The document advocates for associations to innovate, change what isn't working, and engage members in new ways during difficult economic times.
This document provides guidance on innovating during an economic recession. It discusses how some companies successfully launched new products and strengthened customer loyalty during the Great Depression. The key points are:
1) Listen to the market to identify unmet needs, as needs are more exposed during difficult times. Successful innovators in the 1930s like Fortune magazine and Kraft found needs and filled them.
2) Invest in customers to build loyalty, as they are worried. Providing good service and staying connected with new products shows hope.
3) Offer more value to customers rather than just lowering prices, as that can damage brands. Work with vendors to extract greater value rather than demand lower prices.
This document advertises internship opportunities at an entrepreneurial company called SweatEquiTees where interns, or "internpreneurs", can gain experience in community management by developing an online community, marketing by creating marketing campaigns and content, and operations by managing the online store, fulfilling orders, and providing customer service rather than performing typical intern tasks like fetching coffee. Interested candidates should submit their resume to the provided email address.
The document consists of a single repeated phrase - "OrganoGold.com/Powerpoint" - listed over 30 times without any other context or information provided. It does not contain any actual content that can be summarized.
This document provides information on entrepreneurship and small businesses. It discusses how small businesses are started by individuals who identify needs in the market. The document also outlines the characteristics of entrepreneurs, including taking risks and having initiative. Both advantages like independence and disadvantages like long hours and financial risks of business ownership are presented. Examples of famous entrepreneurs like Oprah Winfrey and Bill Gates are also provided.

Idealism and commercialism are not polar opposites. In fact, as counterintuitive as it may seem, sustainable profits are supported by sustainable idealism. Brand owners should not have to choose between idealism and profit, and profits based on a degree of idealism are more likely to be strong and sustainable over time. Businesses have come to recognize this and want their objectives, and those of their brands, to be attractive and easily defensible. While the economic crisis has tested some companies’ resolve, the fundamental factors that encourage them to espouse inspiring missions and defensible practices are unlikely to wane. Ogilvy has developed The big ideaL process to convey the ethos of the brand or company to people from different cultures and to employees and consumers alike.

Andrex, a leading toilet paper brand in the UK, faced competitive challenges in the 1980s from a new softer product. Instead of rational arguments, Andrex launched an advertising campaign featuring a playful Labrador puppy to tap into consumers' emotions. The campaign was highly successful and boosted Andrex's sales during this difficult time. The document discusses how many of the world's top brands, like Nike and Apple, have built strong emotional connections with consumers through their marketing, beyond rational product attributes. While appealing to emotions is powerful, brands must ensure a rational product basis and address any disconnects to maintain customer loyalty over time.

The document provides several examples of big ideaLs and discusses how they can benefit companies internally, in marketing and communications, and by engaging consumers.

It provides the example of how Andrex toilet paper used emotional advertising featuring a Labrador puppy to boost sales when facing new competition. While emotions are powerful, brands must handle them with care. Successful brands like Nike harness diverse emotions to develop a "polyphonic" personality. While emotions can build strong bonds, brands must ensure their communications are grounded in reality to maintain credibility over time. Overall, the document argues that emotion is fundamental to branding but must be used skillfully given consumers' growing sophistication.

4. For many, college
represents the best
time of one's life, for
others it's the perfect
opportunity to start a
business. For all the
Mark Zuckerbergs of
the world who did it
and will continue to
build promising
enterprises from their
dorm room, this shirt
is designed specifically
for the College
Entrepreneur.

5. The entrepreneurial story of
Howard Schultz' Starbucks is
well documented, but less
famous are the countless
entrepreneurial tales that have
spawned from thousands of
Starbucks locations nationwide.
Free wifi, endless coffee, and
comfortable furniture make for
quite the entrepreneurial recipe.
This shirt pays homage to these
business breeding grounds we
like to call "Startup Central."

6. It's as easy as LLC. A favorite among
entrepreneurs, the Limited Liability
Company (LLC) business structure is
popular because, similar to a corporation,
owners have limited personal liability for
the debts and actions of the LLC. Other
features of LLCs are more like a
partnership, providing management
flexibility and the benefit of pass-through
taxation. Wearing the shirt begs the
question: Are you a member?
We like to think it's caffeine
(and it probably does play a
role) but we all know it's the
hard work and ingenuity of
entrepreneurs (and their
inspired employees) across
the United States that keeps
the engine of our economy
churning out the GDP.

8. Whether you’re a franchiser or
franchisee this is the shirt for you!
Inspired by Subway, one of the
fastest growing franchises in the
world with 35,012 restaurants in
98 countries and territories as of
August 17, 2011. Doctor's
Associates, owners of Subway, was
founded by Fred De Luca and Peter
Buck in 1966, when they opened
the second Subway restaurant in
New York. De Luca borrowed
$1,000 from family friend Peter
Buck to start his first sandwich
shop on August 28, 1965. They
have come along way since,
consistently ranked as one of the
fastest growing franchises in the
world, making it the model of
aspiring franchisers globally.

9. A cautionary tale:
The first Blockbuster store was
opened in October 1985 in
Dallas, Texas by David Cook.
Cook grew the business and
brought it public. At its peak in
2009, Blockbuster had
upwards of 60,000 employees
with over 5,000 stores in the
U.S. and 17 countries
worldwide. Because of
competition from other
innovative video rental
companies such as Netflix and
Hulu, Blockbuster has seen
significant revenue losses and
the company was forced to file
for bankruptcy on
September 23, 2010.

10. Are you a king of venture?
Anheuser-Busch began as a small
brewery located in St. Louis,
Missouri. In 1860, Eberhard
Anheuser, a prosperous German-
born soap manufacturer, became
owner of the struggling brewery.
Adolphus Busch, Anheuser’s
son-in-law, became partner in 1869,
and became president when
Anheuser died in 1880. Adolphus
Busch was the first U.S. brewer to use
pasteurization to keep beer fresh,
the first to use artificial refrigeration
and refrigerated railroad cars and the
first to bottle beer extensively. In
1876, Busch introduced America’s
first national beer brand: Budweiser.
In 1877, the company introduced the
first cola: King Cola. Anheuser-Busch
became the largest brewer in the
United States in 1957.

"Ingenuity is one percent inspiration and
ninety-nine percent perspiration."
Featuring one lightbulb representing

one of the most exciting times for an
entrepreneur, and as the letters of
the word "STARTUP" in this design
signify, it's all about growing step-
by-step each day. It's a common
bond that entrepreneurs share and
the wearer of this shirt shall proudly
