Faisalabad metrobus project summary
1. Summary
A project titled " FAISALABAD METROBUS PROJECT ” is being submitted as an artifact
(being placed / hosted on Slideshare: in the pdf format). The project is meant to provide a network
of mass transit corridors for the city and establish a sustainable long term Public Transport System
supporting daily travel needs and economic livelihood of the residents, that is sustainable,
resilient, and inclusive. The Punjab Mass Transit Authority engaged a consultant in 2021 for
Transport Modeling and Feasibility Study of mass transit systems in Faisalabad. Travel Demand
Forecast Model was developed with an elaborate focus on public transport in general and mass
transit in particular. The model was developed using modeling software with advanced public
transport and mass transit assignment procedure that closely simulates the real situation. The
aim of traffic modelling was to Identify a network of mass transit corridors for the city to establish
a sustainable long term Public Transport System supporting daily travel needs and economic
livelihood of the residents. The consultants proposed a long term mass transit network for
Faisalabad. On behalf of the Civil Society Forum of Faisalabad, a project has been planned for a
Bus Rapid Transit corridor and accordingly implementation of Faisalabad Metrobus System
(FMBS) project is being proposed. The said project targets to remedy and improve the situation
with sustainability of infrastructure and user services with assistance from ADB and the
Government of the Punjab, Pakistan. It is for consideration by the funding agency (ADB) and the
Government of Punjab, Pakistan after: i) Social and environmental Impact Assessments, ii)
Financial (Spending) Capacity Assessment, and iii) Administrative and Technical Capacity
Assessment as per their existing regulations.
