Problem Statement Can a coin vibrate if I put the coin in the opening of a bottle while I put my hands around the bottle?
Hypothesis If I warm my hands for more time, and put my hands around it, then the coin will jump for more times.
Materials Coin Glass Bottle Refrigerator Water
Procedures Place an empty bottle in the refrigerator to cool it. When the bottle is cold remove it and put the bottle on a table. Put a coin on the opening as shown. Than dip your finger in water and place a few drops around the edge of the coin, to seal the opening. Then place both of your hands around the bottle holding it firmly, for about fifteen seconds. Than coin will start to click up and down. Let it vibrate for a while, then remove your hands.
Independent variable The kind of bottle The time holding the bottle The kind of coin
Dependent Variable How many times the coin would jump
Constants The position of the bottle The amount of the time while the coin is jumping Type of coin Which coin I’m going to use Which bottle I’m going to use
Data Table 57 5 5 53 4 4 45 3 3 18 2 2 17 1 1 Times it jumped Minutes Trial
Graph Table
Written description of results In approximately 5 minutes from covering the bottle with my hands, the coin will start to vibrate up and down. When you remove your hands, after a while the coin continues to vibrate. In the first trial it takes 1 minute and the coin jumped 17 times, in the second trial it takes 2 minutes and the coin jumped 18 times, it increased one more jump, in the third trial it takes 3 minutes and the coin jumped 45 times, it increased by 27 more jumps. It increased much more than the first two trials. In the fourth trial, it takes four minutes and the coin jumped 53 times, it increased by 8 more jumps than the last trials. Finally, the fifth trial, it takes 5 minutes and the coin jumped 57 times it increased by 4 more jumps than before.
