1. So when we talk to people about how we can make their News Feed better,
one of the things we heard over and over again was, “My News Feed is cluttered.“
So this was a little bit of a spring cleaning for us.
The first thing that you“re going to notice to your News Feed is photo stories,
which we“ve taken from these tiny little thumbnails, and really blown them up.
You have these rich previews of these articles that your friends have shared,
or maps that show the restaurant that they checked in at last night.
Every single story that you see on the News Feed has been completely redesigned,
and yet, hopefully, it still carries the essence of what makes that story
important.
This is like going from a little Trinitron 20-centimeter TV to buying a
widescreen.
Most people when they come to the site and they just have a few minutes,
they see what“s in their News Feed, they see
just the surface of what“s happening there. So one of the things we“ve added is
feeds,
where now if you have a few extra minutes
and you“ve gone through your News Feed, you can go to your Photos feed and see
every photo that your friends have shared.
Or you can go to the All Friends feed, or you can go to the Following feed to
see updates from the celebrities,
and new sources and pages that you follow on Facebook.
One of the pieces of feedback that we get over and over is that people want more
control over the stories that they see.
And so, by providing these different feeds, this really empowers people to see
the things they care about most.
I think one of the great things about this latest release is
that we“re unifying the experience across all of our devices and across the
website,
so, we“ve taken a lot of the principles that we had been using on the mobile
phone,
on the tablet version, and we brought them to the web.
You know“ for being such a design-driven project, I“d like to think that if this
is a success,
it“s going to be something that most people don“t really notice.
They“re going to be too busy enjoying the stories that their friends have shared
with them.
I think in that way, Facebook hasn“t changed at all; it“s hopefully just gotten
better.
Goodbye clutter
