I stressed the need for our people to refrain from spendthriftness to
stabilize their economic condition. They should avoid extravaganza in
their marriages. A major portion of our savings is being spent on marriage
ceremonies. As a consequence of pomp and pride exhibited in the
wedding functions of the rich and elite, the middle class families are also
following their footsteps. They incur expenditure beyond their
affordability and are forced to borrow money. It takes years for them to
get themselves get rid of the loans and interests problems. This has
become a psychological problem for the middle class families. This group
can neither adopt the simplicity of the poor nor imitate the rich. Due to
this trend in Muslim society, it is not superseding the other
communities.After Police Action on Hyderabad, the Muslims remained
backward in the field of education.In order to come out of this evil
practice, individual efforts are not enough. We must make collective
attempts to eradicate this social evil. Muslims of Bhatkal (Karnataka) who
have resolved to perform marriages in a simple way following the
footsteps of Prophet Mohammed (SAWS). It has yielded positive results
and our society is experiencing a change.By the end of this century, the
largest population of the word would be that of the Muslims. We should
not feel happy that we would emerge as the largest population group in
the world. This largest group will also face poverty, hunger and illiteracy.
There is a need to take positive actions in order to popularize Islamic
teachings. Rich must minimize their wedding expenses and spend the
money thus saved on the welfare activities of the Muslim community. This
will be a means to better our life of the Hereafter. In America, Muslims
have started celebrating marriage ceremonies after Friday prayers and
after a day or two Valima is hosted in which a very limited number of
close friends and relatives are invited. I advised the people of Hyderabad
to adopt this system. Finding a suitable matrimonial alliance has become
a difficult task but It is hoped that there will be a silent revolution in
Muslim society.Extravaganza in marriage ceremonies and said that it is
very dangerous trend. Sumptuous dinners and grand parties are being
arranged on such occasions due to which auspiciousness has vanished
