Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

UNVEILING INNOVATION!!
In a ceremonial affair graced by the presence of
distinguished dignitaries, Dr. Srinivas T and Dr.
Parameshachari B. D, the IEEE Student Branch embarked
on its journey with an inaugural function that resonated
with promise and dedication. The event, meticulously
organized by the team members and core staff, unfolded
as a pivotal step in the establishment of the IEEE branch.
The inauguration ceremony was more than just a formal
event , it was a testament to the collective determination
and vision of the team. The proceedings commenced
with a sense of anticipation, marking the
commencement of a new era in technological
exploration and collaboration. The team members,
adorned with their designated badges, stood proud as
symbols of their commitment to the IEEE community.
An integral part of the ceremony was the solemn oath-
taking by the members. Standing united, they pledged to
work in accordance with the rules, uphold the integrity of
the platform, embrace challenges with resilience, and
foster a collaborative spirit within the team. This symbolic act not only highlighted the
seriousness with which the IEEE community was embraced but also set the tone for a
collective journey towards innovation and excellence.The dignitaries, in their addresses,
emphasized the significance of IEEE in shaping the future of technology and commended
the team for their initiative. Dr. Srinivas T and Dr. Parameshachari B. D shared insights into
the vast potential and opportunities that IEEE offers to students, encouraging them to
actively engage in the diverse programs and activities that lie ahead.
3. Later in the day, the Ideathon competition unfolded,
featuring students from diverse colleges who had
advanced to the final round. There were 10 teams
selected for the final round Each participant presented
their chosen topic before a panel of judges, creating an
atmosphere of anticipation and excitement. The judges
faced a daunting task in selecting a winner, given the
uniqueness and creativity demonstrated by each
participant. Choosing the victor proved to be a
formidable challenge. The winner was from Presidency
University , Team Zeptie. The runner was from Global
Academy of Technology , Team Leaflet. The winners
and runners team were awarded with cash price worth
10K and 5K.
As the event concluded, it became evident that the
Ideathon had provided valuable insights and knowledge
to all participants. The competition was a resounding
success for the IEEE members, marking a significant
milestone in their journey. This initial step towards their
long-term goals was undeniably fruitful. The triumph
was a collective achievement, with due credit accorded
to the dedicated team, supportive faculty, and all
participating students. The success of the Ideathon
underscored the collaborative spirit and commitment of
the IEEE community.
