This document summarizes an EE Operation program from 2015. It discusses the program's structure, components, community mapping efforts, strategy planning, social impact, and next plans. The program's mission is to support education and improve livelihoods through family assistance, loans, job placement and more. It served over 400 students and families that year. Analysis found business consulting and capital loans provided by the program significantly increased daily incomes and amounts of increased income for community businesses. Moving forward, the program plans to provide more training, loans, and support for small businesses and social enterprises.

Developing an Operating Budget for
Extended Family, Inc.: A Not-for-Profit
Human Service Organization
Karyl A. Mammano and Thomas N. Tyson
ABSTRACT: In this case, you will develop an operating budget for Extended Family,
Inc., a not-for-profit (NFP) human service organization. Completing this budget suc-
cessfully requires a high level of decision making, as you must determine the number
of cost pools and allocation bases upon which common costs are to be allocated
to the organization’s three revenue-generating programs. This case will expose you to
many real-world issues that NFP financial managers confront when they prepare op-
erating budgets. These issues include: (1) allocating revenue among programs; (2) dis-
tinguishing among program, administrative, and fundraising costs; (3) properly treating
temporarily restricted contributions; and (4) facing an array of ongoing financial chal-
lenges connected with NFPs.
INTRODUCTION
E
xtended Family, Inc., a community-based, not-for-profit (NFP) organization, was
founded in 1995 by a group of parents who were concerned about the stigma sur-
rounding children with disabilities. Specifically, these parents found that such chil-
dren did not have a place to go to receive specialized counseling aimed at helping them
cope with their disabilities. The founding parents also wanted their adult children with
disabilities to have an independent, yet supervised, living situation. Originally a grass roots
organization with limited support, Extended Family was incorporated in 1999 in order to
expand the program from advocating for services to providing services. Extended Family’s
mission is to educate the community on disabilities and to provide a safe living environment
that will enable people with disabilities to live with dignity.
Program Description
Extended Family operates three separate programs: counseling, education, and residen-
tial. Clients may be referred to one of these programs by their schools, social service
agencies, physicians, or their parents.
Counseling Program
The counseling program provides individual, group, and family counseling sessions.
The sessions are individualized and range from coping with a disability to training in
activities of daily living, such as using public transportation.

Improving student outcomes continues to be a competitive priority in the U.S. and an elusive goal by systemic measures. This 2016 International Corporate Citizenship Conference looked at how multi-sector collaborations can be most effectively launched and supported to ensure school success for all of our children.
Campus Compact has conducted an annual membership survey since 1987 with the goal to help the organization and its member campuses track the extent of civic engagement activity in order to implement ongoing improvements. Campus Compact members should be proud of their role in educating students for responsible citizenship, strengthening communities, and fulfilling the public purpose of higher education. This year's results tell a story of continued growth in support structures for campus engagement, leading to notable levels of engagement with students, faculty, and community partners.
Big changes are happening for low-income Ohioans between the ages of 16 and 24. On July 1st, Ohio became the first state to implement a comprehensive case management and employment program (CCMEP) to increase access to education and work opportunities for Ohio youth. By integrating aspects of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Ohio is creating a common experience for youth with the goal of improving education and employment outcomes.
