“The Believing Game & How to Make Conflicting Opinions More Fruitful”
Part 1
The believing game makes use of the practice of being skeptical and analytical when it comes to the ideas encountered on a daily basis. Doubts are to surface if one is very skeptical as hidden contradictions can be analyzed and noticed as well as bad reasoning. Critical thinking works well if it makes use of the believing tools which asserts that an idea is correct if we choose to hold back our opinions and trying to believe what they are saying to make the contradicting viewpoints to be fruitful. The believing game gives us an insight into how we should doubt all ideas we encounter and learn how to find weaknesses in the good ideas and avoid dismissing all the ideas we meet, (Elbow, 1973). It is therefore important to note that it hard for an individual to believe contradicting ideas at once rather we can commit to accepting a certain view, the believing game gives us an opportunity to see the virtues in the ideas we have which provides us with evidence that are good but it fails to make us commit or judge the idea on our behalf.
Medical Marijuana
Most of the parts in the United States have legalized the medical use of marijuana. Proponents of this idea believe that it is a safe and effective treatment for any noticed symptoms of AIDS, cancer, epilepsy, pain, and other conditions. However, every idea has an opposing party who claim that the use of medical marijuana is very dangerous and risky. They have backed up their thoughts by saying that the drug is addictive, has led to infertility, driving ability is interfered with, the brain, immune and lung systems are also at high risks of getting damaged, (ProCon.Org., 2019). Well, the question that is mostly asked is that should marijuana be a medical option? Pros and cons that have been analyzed from the opinions of various thoughts if the plant is legible for medical purposes or not.
Pro 3: "Legalize Marijuana for Medical Purposes”: Premise 1: Medical marijuana can be used because it has provided a promise that it can reduce chronic pain on a wider range of ailments.
Premise 2: Opposing the use of medical marijuana is very stupid compared to the fact that doctors have been given the opportunity to prescribe addictive opiates that reduce pain in patients.
Conclusion: It is not logical denying patients with a drug that can alleviate chronic pain. The drug can mediate discomfort if it has any side effects.
Part II:
I feel that premise 2 is a logical fallacy or reasoning that has some errors because the fact that opiates have been legalized in the US to be used as pain relievers doesn't really necessarily mean that the medical marijuana should just be given the go-ahead too. Opposing the idea by some other people should be understood that it means that they have col ...

This document discusses ethics challenges in new prevention technology (NPT) research. It outlines key topics including principles of research ethics, roles of various players in biomedical research, community engagement challenges, and case studies of trials. The main principles of research ethics discussed are respect for persons, beneficence/non-maleficence, and justice/non-exploitation. Community engagement is important to maximize benefits and minimize risks for participants and communities. Informed consent is a process that requires understanding risks and benefits of participation.
Methods of persuasion, the Six Key PrinciplesPrakhar Gupta
This presentation is based on Robert Cialdini's book, 'Influence-The Psychology of Persuasion'. Cialdini's theory of influence is based on the principles of reciprocity, commitment and consistency, social proof, authority, liking, and scarcity.
Six key principles of influence.
1. Reciprocity – People tend to return a favor, thus the pervasiveness of free samples in marketing. In his conferences, he often uses the example of Ethiopia providing thousands of dollars in humanitarian aid to Mexico just after the 1985 earthquake, despite Ethiopia suffering from a crippling famine and civil war at the time. Ethiopia had been reciprocating for the diplomatic support Mexico provided when Italy invaded Ethiopia in 1935. The good cop/bad cop strategy is also based on this principle.
2. Commitment and Consistency – If people commit, orally or in writing, to an idea or goal, they are more likely to honor that commitment because of establishing that idea or goal as being congruent with their self-image. Even if the original incentive or motivation is removed after they have already agreed, they will continue to honor the agreement. Cialdini notes Chinese brainwashing on American prisoners of war to rewrite their self-image and gain automatic unenforced compliance. See cognitive dissonance.
3. Social Proof – People will do things that they see other people are doing. For example, in one experiment, one or more confederates would look up into the sky; bystanders would then look up into the sky to see what they were seeing. At one point this experiment aborted, as so many people were looking up that they stopped traffic. See conformity, and the Asch conformity experiments.
4. Authority – People will tend to obey authority figures, even if they are asked to perform objectionable acts. Cialdini cites incidents such as the Milgram experiments in the early 1960s and the My Lai massacre.
5. Liking – People are easily persuaded by other people that they like. Cialdini cites the marketing of Tupperware in what might now be called viral marketing. People were more likely to buy if they liked the person selling it to them. Some of the many biases favoring more attractive people are discussed. See physical attractiveness stereotype.
6. Scarcity – Perceived scarcity will generate demand. For example, saying offers are available for a "limited time only" encourages sales.
This document discusses evaluating evidence and determining the credibility of information sources. It provides examples of different types of evidence from personal testimonies to scientific studies and emphasizes the importance of considering evidence from reliable sources. Readers are encouraged to be skeptical of claims unless they are supported by solid evidence and to have an open mind when considering new information rather than avoiding facts that contradict preexisting beliefs. Critical thinking skills are important for separating facts from fiction.

The Legalization of Marijuana
Marijuana, which has a scientific name of Cannabis Sativa, is a plant that has sparked mixed feelings not only in the United States but all over the world. Jamaica has been the oldest nation that has come out openly to legalize marijuana, and it has been preaching the same gospel to other parts of the world (Campbell, Twenge, & Carter, 2017). Different nations are now seeing the need
to legalize marijuana. However, irrespective of the fact that nations that advocate for marijuana legalization have provided facts that they believe should be followed,
there are opposing forces from different perspectives
, and they have sparked arguments
that continue to increase the heat on the debate of whether to legalize marijuana. The controversial debate on whether to legalize marijuana has been argued from two different perspectives and each of the perspectives will be focused on.
Argument for
In the United States, more than ten states have so far legalized marijuana. What is more fascinating is the fact that other states are following suit and there are headed in the same direction. The states that have legalized marijuana have legalized it based on recreation and medical use. It is therefore evident that the topic of legalizing marijuana has been medically
motivated (Campbell et al. 2017). Apart from the few states in the united states,
there are other countries that have come in the open to legalize marijuana. Some of the nations are Canada, Belize, Jamaica, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Uruguay, Cambodia, Laos, and Belgium.
The people who support the legalization of marijuana have given their reasons.
The first reason is the reduction of addiction and use of substandard marijuana. One of the reasons
why some people are affected by marijuana is because of the quality of the marijuana that they are exposed to. The fact that marijuana is illegal gives the peddlers an opportunity to sell substandard marijuana, and that affects the health of the smoker. If marijuana was legalized, there would
be an opportunity for the users to get information about the substance. As a result, the use of substandard substance would be frustrated. The legalization of marijuana would also pr.

This document is a 1,399 word Theory of Knowledge essay evaluating the claim that "the possession of knowledge carries an ethical responsibility." The essay provides several examples from history and science to support this, such as Einstein sharing his knowledge of relativity which led to the atomic bomb, and the responsibility of scientists discovering cures or technologies to consider consequences. The essay concludes that while knowledge possession does require ethical responsibility, deciding what to do with knowledge and whether to share it depends on considering all possible consequences.

The realm of product design is a constantly changing environment where technology and style intersect. Every year introduces fresh challenges and exciting trends that mold the future of this captivating art form. In this piece, we delve into the significant trends set to influence the look and functionality of product design in the year 2024.
How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).
AI Trends in Creative Operations 2024 by Artwork Flow.pdfmarketingartwork
Creative operations teams expect increased AI use in 2024. Currently, over half of tasks are not AI-enabled, but this is expected to decrease in the coming year. ChatGPT is the most popular AI tool currently. Business leaders are more actively exploring AI benefits than individual contributors. Most respondents do not believe AI will impact workforce size in 2024. However, some inhibitions still exist around AI accuracy and lack of understanding. Creatives primarily want to use AI to save time on mundane tasks and boost productivity.
Organizational culture includes values, norms, systems, symbols, language, assumptions, beliefs, and habits that influence employee behaviors and how people interpret those behaviors. It is important because culture can help or hinder a company's success. Some key aspects of Netflix's culture that help it achieve results include hiring smartly so every position has stars, focusing on attitude over just aptitude, and having a strict policy against peacocks, whiners, and jerks.

Content Methodology: A Best Practices Report (Webinar)contently
This document provides an overview of content methodology best practices. It defines content methodology as establishing objectives, KPIs, and a culture of continuous learning and iteration. An effective methodology focuses on connecting with audiences, creating optimal content, and optimizing processes. Google's Just Not That Into You: Understanding Core Updates & Search IntentLily Ray
1. Core updates from Google periodically change how its algorithms assess and rank websites and pages. This can impact rankings through shifts in user intent, site quality issues being caught up to, world events influencing queries, and overhauls to search like the E-A-T framework.
2. There are many possible user intents beyond just transactional, navigational and informational. Identifying intent shifts is important during core updates. Sites may need to optimize for new intents through different content types and sections.
3. Responding effectively to core updates requires analyzing "before and after" data to understand changes, identifying new intents or page types, and ensuring content matches appropriate intents across video, images, knowledge graphs and more.

Exercise for peer evaluation.docx
1. 20/Mar. 2023
Exercise “Individual practice with peer evaluation”
1. What is the problem they are trying to solve and what decision do they want to analyze?
The problem they are trying to solve is to permit marihuana to be legalized.
They want to analyze the decision of legalizing marihuana.
2. What are the affirmations, arguments and inferences they are both making?
The argument and the affirmation made by person ‘Y’ is that the survey done
shows a 61% in favour of the proposal.
Further, person ‘Y’ argues that clinical studies show that “smoking marihuana is
not harmful when using it properly”.
Whereas person ‘Z’, in his ‘critical thinking’ challenges the ‘Logic’ of person ‘Y’ as
to his interest, and concludes that person ‘Y’ brings the argument for his own
benefit.
In addition, person ‘Z’ brings a significant and fair argument on what it means by
“using it properly’!
3. How sound is the conversation as a whole? Is it a critical discussion?
As a whole, the conversation is not sound! The reason being, no scientific
evidence is provided by person ‘Y’ in his claim “…not harmful when using
properly”
It certainly is a critical discussion. Legalizing marihuana, if permitted, can have
devastating effect on those who have absolutely no limits in gratifying their own
desires. Whereby, the proposal needs to be well debated.
