An excavator driver was killed when the excavator he was operating was hit by a passenger train carrying 77 people near Bathurst, NSW. The 25-year-old man was doing track work only 3km from Newbridge station when the XPT train, which was traveling from Sydney to Dubbo, collided with the excavator at around 11:30am. The train sustained minor damage but the driver was treated for shock. Authorities are investigating why the excavator was on the tracks when the daily passenger train was due to pass through.
