George Frederick Nash worked as a senior graphic designer at Supre Tan and Hempz Body & Hair Care for 9 weeks. His duties included preparing packaging, banners, brochures and website images using Adobe software like InDesign, Illustrator and Photoshop. He contributed to video production by making PowerPoint slides and created physical and 3D mockups of display promotionals and the company's trade show booth. Some of his projects included designing graphics for display packaging and intro kits, laying out a rebate brochure, conceptualizing lotion bottle designs, and producing packaging mechanicals.
Matt Wilson is designing and building a mechanical surfboard rack for his final year project. He has researched existing surfboard racks and identified key specifications for his design, including cost, ease of use, durability, and accessibility. Wilson settled on using a pneumatic arm to lower and retract the rack, as it would allow slow, controlled movement and is relatively simple and inexpensive to implement. In his design, the pneumatic arm will be connected to the rack through a joint bar riding in ball bearings, allowing the rack to smoothly descend and retract while preventing wear and fractures. Wilson will use a small air compressor and a two-way release valve to power the pneumatic system and control the movement of the rack.
Decoding Decisions - The Messy Middle of Purchase BehaviorLeticia Xavier
This document discusses the "messy middle" of consumer decision making online. It describes how consumers now have immense choice and information available when shopping online, making decisions more complex. It discusses research conducted to understand how consumers navigate this "messy middle" period between initial product interest and final purchase. The research involved tasks where consumers' behaviors and thoughts were captured. It revealed that consumers seamlessly switch between states of exploration and evaluation of options using cognitive shortcuts, as they manage the abundance of information available.
This document discusses the complex consumer decision making process in today's digital landscape. It notes that with immense online choice, consumers now spend more time exploring multiple options across many stores before purchasing. This intermediate stage between initial consideration and final purchase is called the "messy middle". The authors argue that understanding this messy middle is crucial for marketers given the evolution of consumer behavior with digital abundance. The document aims to shed light on consumers' cognitive shortcuts for dealing with online complexity and how behavioral science can provide insights for marketers to better influence the messy middle stage of the consumer journey.

Design Philosphopy
Create and innovate products/packaging that will compel consumers to purchase and become part of their daily lives. Products/packaging need to create excitement at POP to grab the consumer’s attention and after the purchase it should fulfill their needs; met and unmet. This enables the product/package to be purchased again and again.
What should a well designed Product/Package do?
An innovative product and package design should support clear and positive communications of the brand position and value, generating a broad multi-cultural or a specific target appeal in the market. This should included leveraging the advantages of technologies (related and non-related) that can make the product unique at retail; materials, manufacturing capabilities and market trends.
Work Ethic
I am fully focused to a task given. In addition, I am also an advocate in exploring established and new technologies introducing them into the design process which can produce the best product or solution available. Based on my varied design experience, I can create exciting new products/packaging that can deliver results for your company or your client.
Design areas of concentration I have worked on:
• Structural Packaging Design
• Product Design
• Consumer research and facilitating; domestically and international
• POP display
• Automotive and Airplane interiors
• Consumer Goods

Rethinking Kållered │ From Big Box to a Reuse Hub: A Transformation Journey ...SirmaDuztepeliler
"Rethinking Kållered │ From Big Box to a Reuse Hub: A Transformation Journey Toward Sustainability"
The booklet of my master’s thesis at the Department of Architecture and Civil Engineering at Chalmers University of Technology. (Gothenburg, Sweden)
This thesis explores the transformation of the vacated (2023) IKEA store in Kållered, Sweden, into a "Reuse Hub" addressing various user types. The project aims to create a model for circular and sustainable economic practices that promote resource efficiency, waste reduction, and a shift in societal overconsumption patterns.
Reuse, though crucial in the circular economy, is one of the least studied areas. Most materials with reuse potential, especially in the construction sector, are recycled (downcycled), causing a greater loss of resources and energy. My project addresses barriers to reuse, such as difficult access to materials, storage, and logistics issues.
Aims:
• Enhancing Access to Reclaimed Materials: Creating a hub for reclaimed construction materials for both institutional and individual needs.
• Promoting Circular Economy: Showcasing the potential and variety of reusable materials and how they can drive a circular economy.
• Fostering Community Engagement: Developing spaces for social interaction around reuse-focused stores and workshops.
• Raising Awareness: Transforming a former consumerist symbol into a center for circular practices.
Highlights:
• The project emphasizes cross-sector collaboration with producers and wholesalers to repurpose surplus materials before they enter the recycling phase.
• This project can serve as a prototype for reusing many idle commercial buildings in different scales and sizes.
• The findings indicate that transforming large vacant properties can support sustainable practices and present an economically attractive business model with high social returns at the same time.
• It highlights the potential of how sustainable practices in the construction sector can drive societal change.

Introduction
...................................................................1 Welcome to my portfolio! My
name is Evin Holstad, and I am
an aspiring designer pursuing
my degree in Design and
Innovation Management with a
minor in Marketing at Oregon
State University. Throughout
my time at OSU I have been
fortunate enough to be able to
participate in many design
project that are featured in this
portfolio. I have been able to
utilize my creativity and passion
for design to complete these
projects, and the skills I have
learned are invaluable and I am
excitied for the opportunity to
be able to apply these skills in
my career someday.
5. Residence
Hall
Renovation
........................................................
2 Myself and a team of 6
other students were
tasked by the University
Housing & Dining
Services at Oregon
State University to
design and renovate a
vestibule in the Finley
Residence Hall on their
campus. We were
involved in the process
from start to finish and
worked with a board of
clients to make
decisions and ensure
that everything was up
to the Universities
standards.
As.a team we used our
design knowledge, and
experience as students
to create a space that
would make students
feel welcome, and at
home in their new
environement, while
also creating visually
appealing elements that
would leave a lasting
impression.
6. Residence
Hall
Renovation
Process
..................................
3 When we began this
project, the vestibule
was a blank canvas, so
we began
brainstorming right
away. We initially
created 3 mood boards
with different styles
and elements that
could have possibly
gone into our design.
We then presented
these to our clients and
used their feedback to
combine elements
from each to create our
final design.
Once we had our final
design, we got to work
on sketching the
composition, and
researching and
aquiring materials. In
order to comply with
University standards
we hired a team of
contractors to build out
our design exaclty as
we had pictured it
8. I was tasked to create
a design for an ice
cream cup for a
hypothetical pop-up
shop for the brand
Salt& Straw. Through
research of the brand,
and creating various
mood boards and
word associations, I
came up with a theme
for this pop-up shop
selling ice cream in
the park "Something
worth melting for"
Based on this theme, I
came up with
inspiration for the cup
I wanted to make, and
created a rough
sketch. From there I
executed the design
using paper modeling
to create a prototype
for the type of ice
cream cup I would use
at this pop-up shop.

10. In addition to
creating a sample of
the cup that would
be used at the pop-
up shop, I also came
up with a story board
for the pop-up that
included all of the
elements I wanted
there to be at the
shop. I brainstormed
many ideas for how I
could tie the theme
into the event and
decided that I would
have it be themed
around a water park.
From there I created
a small-scale design
of one of the areas
that I would have at
the pop-up to create
more of a visual
example. I also drew
mock-ups of the
actual site where the
pop-up would take
place.

11. As a part of a group
project we were tasked
to plan a pop-up shop in
Corvallis, Oregon to
promote Nike and any
product of our choice.
After much research we
came up with the theme
of building confidence of
first year students at
Oregon State with the
tag line "Lets do it", a
spin on Nikes slogan
"Just do it". In this way
we wanted to promote
inclusivity and easing
peoples reservations
when it came to getting
in the gym and building
confidence when
working out. We created
a social media campaign
and created mock-ups of
the pop-up design and
shirts and shoes that
were to be sold there.
