Evauluation question 1
1. Evaluation Question 1
In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms or
conventions of real products?
2. What are code and conventions?
- Codes are systems of
signs, which create meaning.
Codes can be divided into
two categories – technical
and symbolic. Technical
codes are all the ways in
which equipment is used to
tell the story in a media text,
for example the camera work
in a film. Symbolic codes
show what is beneath the
surface of what we see.
3. Technical Features
Examples of this include camera
shots/angles, and the sound
which can be diegetic or non-
diegetic.
The style of edit will also be a
major feature + the pace which
show the genre
4. Research and Development
- During the research stages, Elliott and I used
YouTube to find a wide variety of Music Videos which
we would then analyse. This would help us to prepare
for our music video allowing us to follow the
conventions. We used multiple examples that we
found online such as Drone shots or even close ups
of money.
- Elliott and I always know that we wanted to create a
Trap Music Video as we were both fairly familiar with
this genre which would allow us to easily create this.
- So Research and Development lets us find
information out such as the Camera shots; mise en
scene; editing; sound and the costumes.
5. Camera shots
Throughout our music video we
have used a wide variety of
shots such as drone; pan and
close ups.
In the example on the top right
(from our music video) we have
made medium-wide symmetrical
shot, this allows us to present
balance/order.
And if you compare both the
examples then you can see how
we followed the codes and
conventions, such as masks and
dark clothing
6. Here are few examples of different type of shots
This is a close up, this focuses the
texture and quality of the glasses which
ultimately shows class.
This is a close up, this shows the quality
of the fur coat + gold ring which
signifies wealth.
This is a low-angle medium-wide shot,
this shows wealth due to the luxury car.
7. Camera angles
This is a high-angle shot
which makes the character
look small and weak
This is a low-angle shot
which makes the
character big and tough,
we have used this
throughout our music
video.
8. Editing Effects
We have a numerous amount of editing effects throughout this
project, ranging from strobes to clips overlaying the opacity
having two clips on top of each other.
One of the most frequently used effects that feature in our
music video is the use of the strobe and also the over laying of
clips.
We have tried to follow the classic conventions of the classic
trap videos.
