The document provides summaries of similarities between the opening sequence "Beaten" and various horror films and media. Some key similarities highlighted include use of bars/cages to restrict characters, building tension through editing techniques like slow initial pacing, disturbing zombie makeup and behaviors, lighting choices like red to indicate danger, and sounds of zombies to create an unsettling atmosphere. Costuming zombies in everyday clothes they died in and facial expressions showing desperation for food sources are also noted similarities.

7. 31 Similarities to Beaten
The similarities in both these films is that they both
have a captivity effect by using these black bars.
This is restricting the audience by using this and the
actors and their physicality will show this.
In beaten we have made the changes of using these bars
not as a creepy circus trick but as a more abandoned
house with lots of unused and left house objects, this
was to produce a feel of the zombies have taken this
place over instead of in 31 which is more of a game to
stay alive.
The editing techniques used in both of these films is that
we both start of with a slow pace and build it up to a fast
pace and then towards the end gradually slow the speed
down to make the audience think that there is something
else to watch.
With the camera angles in 31 they have used lots of
camera angles in their trailer which is helping to give a
basic storyline of what the audience will see in this. They
have also developed more of a horror genre to ours by
using the repetitive movement of this man placing this
cream on his face and the effects this is causing him to
do. In Beaten we have used a lot of different shots and
reactions to help the audience build a storyline around
David’s reactions.
8. The titles that the horror film 31 have used
are flashing more than the ones we have
used in our but they both 31 and Beaten
share the warning colour of red and the
colour of blood which is representing the
blood that will be spilt and that there is not
going to be a happy ending for the humans
alive. The title that the editors in 31 have
used more of a decaying font to portray that
these zombies are dying and they need blood
to help them to survive. With our title it is
more simplistic but it does jolt to emphasise
that the zombies are about to attack him and
that he is not going to survive this but it also
draws the audience in because it is confusing
for the brain and the jolts make us feel
uneasy.
Similarities with the titles
9. The other similarities from the horror film 31, to our
opening sequence is that we have used the squirting
blood effect out of their mouths in ours that they have
used in theirs because we found that it gave a very
gruesome effect and we wanted the audience to feel
as disturbed in ours as they probably did in 31.
The behaviour of these zombie characters were very
disturbing how they shared the teeth showing effect
and the other effects like these photos to make the
audience feel uneasy and to portray the story
in their heads more. In 31 their costumes are
more setting the story of a circus and how the
people who are developing this circus are
criminals. Unlike ours which the zombies are
in their clothes that they were killed in. I think
they both give the effect on the audience of
the question how did they get here and what
happened to these characters that are making
them feel unsettled.
Other Similarities
10. Follow Me Similarities to Beaten
In the music video, Follow me, I think it is similar to our opening
sequence, Beaten because of our costume and how we have
portrayed these dead zombies as scary as the ones in Follow
Me, We did this by using our makeup artist, Laura Smith, to help
us to get the troubling representation to the audience. Like
Follow Me, in Beaten we didn’t go over the top with the makeup,
we kept it to their face and blood trickling down their clothes.
The plotline to this music video is very close to the music video
how they have portrayed the zombies killing people, the only
difference is that they are representing the zombies killing other
zombies in there video unlike ours which they are only wanting to
killed the man who killed them.
11. Other similarities that are shared in both is that they
are both like a ghost town because there is only
dead zombies in these locations and so it
demonstrates that something tragic happened.
With the titles in this music video the titles are sized
14-16 and they fade it, this gives a mysterious feel
to the music video and how the font that they have
used it 3D like.
This music videos editing techniques are panicked
at the beginning with the titles in the colour white
with a black screen and then flashing for a couple of
seconds to people running away from something,
there is also a lot of flashes with fire and people
rioting which could represent to the audience that
the location where this is filmed is being destroyed
and taken over by these zombies.
Other Similarities
12. World War Z Similarities to Beaten
The similarities between World War Z and our opening sequence Beaten
there are very fast paced scenes when the zombies come into the main
character's vision.
The makeup of both of these zombies in these photos we have both
represented them in the same way how we have used dark circles under
their eyes to make them look like they are dead. We have also placed
fake blood around their mouths to give that effect that they have either
just eaten someone or that it has been there for a long time before that
character came.
The camera movement in World War Z is a lot more frightening with the
amount of hand held camera movements there are, this is placing the
audience into the thousands of digital people in this trailers situation. In
Beaten we haven’t used any hand held camera movements into our
edited final sequence because we thought that there was too much action
happening at one time and it would distract the audience from the
zombies because they would be always trying to find the focus point. In
the plane scene of World War Z the shots that they have used to create
the coming out at the audience and the sound they have used to do this is
very similar to ours and I think we liked that about this when we were
researching ideas because it really give a huge impact onto the audience
and makes them get a jump scare when this happens.
13. The other similarities that are found in
these two films is the lighting in these
films and how we both used red to
demonstrate to the audience that there is
danger about to emerge. In our thriller we
used a red head light to help produce this
effect before our actors playing zombies
appear. In World War Z the 8,500 digital
zombies that Plan B Entertainment
Production company have produced
these zombies are running around
outside this screenshot, and that these
characters are about to enter into this
hazardous situation.
Other Similarities
14. Warm Bodies Similarities to Beaten
The film Warm Bodies is similar to our opening
sequence of Beaten how in Warm Bodies the
Bonies in this film will prey on anything with a
heartbeat and in Beaten we have made this similar
because they are all ganging up on David because
he is the only one with a blood source. These
characters in both films are represented in a dark
way with the costumes in Warm Bodies the Bonies
are portrayed as worn out and old and this is
identified in our sequence by the old blood that has
dried on their clothes and how they are throwing up
fake blood represents that there bodies are giving
up on themselves. This also gives of their deadly
and violent behaviour that they convey to anyone
with a pulse. The camera angles to represent these
characters are always big to represent their army
which makes them have more power and authority
in this situation.
15. Other Similarities
The other similarities in both these films are that
the zombies when attack the humans they make
the most emphasised facial expression which is
demonstrating the desperation they crave for this
food source.
The costume that the character R in Warm Bodies
is a red jumper which portrays to the audience that
he is dangerous and this is also demonstrated in
the red light on our zombie Emily’s hair.
The camera angles that are used in this section
they are both looking at their target at a low angle
looking up to give them a intimidating effect to the
audience.
16. Comparing The Walking Dead to Beaten
The similarities in The Walking Dead compared
to Beaten, we both have the zombies in the
scenes making gruesome noises to add tension
to the scenes and they are creeping up to you.
We found that these sounds really helped to
create a scary atmosphere and found that it
helped the tension build in the audience hearing
something coming.
The costumes that these zombies are wearing in
The Walking Dead are like our costumes and
how they look like they died in their daily outfit.
The costumes are dark to develop the sense of
depression and death that has become their
personality.
