FAcutSouthgate’s
roleswithEnglandGARETH SOUTHGATE has been
relieved of his duties overseeing
all England’s development teams
to focus purely on his Under 21s
following their dismal showing at
the European Championship.
Southgate was appointed two
years ago as Under 21 boss and
the head of the other men’s age
groups from Under 16 upwards.
It was a key element of the
England DNA project, the
brainchild of the FA’s technical
director Dan Ashworth, designed
to weave continuity and identity
through all national teams with
guidelines for the style of play
and the conduct of players.
‘The only thing that changes is
the size of the shirt,’ has always
been the mantra driving
Ashworth’s plan, but Southgate’s
Chelsea’s club
doctor banned
from the bench
JOSE MOURINHO’S row with
Chelsea’s club doctor Eva
Carneiro hit a new low
yesterday when she was
banned from the bench,
training sessions and
even the team hotel.
Mourinho had accused the
popular Carneiro of poten-
tially costing his team
points in Saturday’s 2-2
draw against Swansea
after she and fellow physio
Jon Fearn rushed on to
the pitch to give treat-
ment to Eden Hazard.
Mourinho said the pair
did not ‘understand the
game’ because proto-
col meant Hazard
then had to leave the
pitch, leaving Chel-
sea vulnerable.
Carneiro, 41, retains
her title as first-team
doctor but her future
is surely in doubt.
