This document is a report by Amnesty International that examines racial discrimination in the Austrian justice system. It documents cases of racist abuse and ill-treatment of ethnic minorities by Austrian police, as well as failures by the criminal justice system to adequately serve minorities. It finds that institutional racism exists within Austrian law enforcement, as stereotypes permeate the system and there are inadequate protections against racism. The report provides examples of discrimination and analyzes failures to properly respond to racist misconduct by officials, which it says indicates that racism is not taken seriously in Austria. It concludes that the justice system does not fulfill its obligations to all citizens equally under international human rights law.
