Essays On Human Rights
Writing an essay on the topic of "Essays on Human Rights" can be a challenging endeavor that
requires a thoughtful and comprehensive approach. Human rights encompass a vast array of
issues, ranging from civil and political rights to economic, social, and cultural rights. The
complexity of this topic necessitates a deep understanding of legal frameworks, historical
contexts, and contemporary debates.
One of the difficulties lies in navigating the diverse perspectives and interpretations of human
rights. Different cultures, societies, and philosophical traditions may have distinct viewpoints on
what constitutes fundamental human rights and how they should be protected. Balancing these
perspectives while maintaining a coherent and persuasive argument can be a delicate task.
Moreover, staying updated on the latest developments in human rights issues globally is crucial.
Human rights are dynamic and can be influenced by political, social, and economic changes.
Thus, the essay writer must engage with current events and scholarly literature to provide a
nuanced analysis.
Crafting an essay on human rights also requires a keen awareness of ethical considerations.
Discussing sensitive topics such as discrimination, inequality, or violations of rights demands a
careful and respectful approach. Striking a balance between passion for the subject and
academic rigor is essential to produce a compelling and well-reasoned essay.
Additionally, the process of researching, outlining, drafting, and revising an essay on human
rights demands time and dedication. It involves synthesizing information from various sources,
critically evaluating arguments, and presenting a coherent and logical structure. Attention to
detail is crucial to ensure accuracy and clarity in conveying complex ideas.
In conclusion, writing an essay on human rights is a challenging task that requires a deep
understanding of the subject matter, an awareness of diverse perspectives, and a commitment to
ethical considerations. Navigating through the complexities of this topic demands a thorough
and diligent approach to research and writing.

5361 THE CASE OF ALICIA- ANOREXIA
U9 Final Assignment: The Case of Alicia Flor ChavezCOUN5106 Assessment
Tests and Measures December 13, 2014 Lynn Jones Ph.D. Unit 9 Final Assignment
Diagnosing potential Anorexia nervosa is not always easy, and Alicia s case, based
on information given and her representation, is not clear cut. Researchers argue that
the diagnosis has to be done carefully and potential ambiguities have to be resolved
(Baer Blais, 2010). For example, some researchers have argued that one criterion,
such as a fear of being fat, can decrease significantly when the person actually loses
some weight (Surgenor Maguire, 2013). For reasons like this, selecting the primary
question, namely whether or not the patient has Anorexia... Show more content on

The first thing to consider is Alicia s BMI. She stated that her weight is 120
pounds, but based on her appearance and loose fitting clothes, it could be that she
underreports her weight as it is quite common for individuals with eating disorders
to hide and lie about their real weight. So if we are to assume that Alicia s weight
is at least five pounds less than she says (which is a conservative estimate), her
BMI is around 19.1. This score indicates the borderline situation, which, according
to some researchers, is on the low range of normal weight (Hilbert et al., 2007).
According to other researchers, this BMI will put Alicia in the underweight
category. Still, this weight is not yet dangerously low, so additional assessment is
needed. The Eating Attitude Test yields the overall score and has three subscales
that can help determine some specifics. The overall score has a cutoff of 20, and
those who score less than 20 are considered as not having an eating disorder, while
those who score 20 and more will have to be evaluated by the follow up assessment
tool (Garner Garfinkel, 1979). The subscales reveal information about bulimia, food
preoccupation, dieting and oral control subscales. If any of behavioral questions are
selected, this adds additional evidence as to the presence of weight controlling
behaviors. Accordingly, if Alicia has a BMI that falls into the underweight category
according to this test, scored 20 or more, and selected at least
The Transport Revolution Essay
The Transport Revolution Until late in the 1700 s, in both Europe and America,
most roads were either rough tracks created by hoof and wheel or mere paths
blazed through the wilderness. People traveled by horseback or on foot between
towns. During cold or wet seasons, traffic was especially difficult or impossible.
One of the problem was that each parish had to mend its own roads. Most people in
the parish had to work 4 or 6 days on the roads each year, or pay money instead. Not
surprisingly, they disliked this and skirted the work. During the eighteenth century,
a new system developed. Groups of men agreed to keep a stretch of road in good
repair if they could charge a fee to every one who... Show more content on

The fast running mail and stage coaches needed better roads. In the early 1800s,
three great roadbuilders began to provide them. One of the most remarkable was
John Metcalfe from Knaresborough in Yorkshire (even though he was blind, he
led a very active life). He was nearly fifty years old when he constructed his first
Turnpike road (1765) and in the next twenty seven years, he supervised the
construction of nearly 300 kilometers of Turnpikes (mostly in Yorkshire and
Lancashire). He paid special attention to the bed of the road and where the soil was
soft, he laided great quantities of heather as a foundation for layers of stone and
gravel. John used jagged broken stones which bound together under the pressure of
wheeled vehicles (see source 3). Thomas Telford was born in Westerkirk,
Dumfries, Scotland, in 1757, the son of a poor Scottish shepherd. He apprenticed
for a time to a stonemason, but then trained as a surveyor, before moving to
London in 1792 in search of work. He found employment working on Somerset
House in the capitol, but later moved to Portsmouth to work on the docks. A patron
from Dumfries got him the post of Surveyor of Public Works for the County of
Shropshire. In this capacity he was responsible for the construction of the Ellesmere
Canal in 1793, and the Severn Suspension Bridge at Montford (1790). This bridge

The Importance Of Treatment For Bulimia Nervosa
This paper demonstrates the significance of treatment for Bulimia Nervosa as well as
which way of treatment is best for Bulimia. The purpose of this research is to analyze
the best treatments for Bulimia Nervosa. More emphasis on the question, is Bulimia
Nervosa best treated with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or with antidepressants such
as Adapin or Prozac? Furthermore, in the paper the results will indicate the efficacy
of treatment of which method of treatment is best for Bulimia.
Bulimia Nervosa is characterized by The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of
Mental Disorders as eating in a discrete period, of time (e.g., within any two hour
period), and amount of food that is definitely larger than what most individuals
would eat in a similar period of time under similar circumstances (DSM (5th ed.,
[DSM 5], American Psychiatric Association [APA], 2013). It can also be
characterized as a sense of lack of control over eating during the episode (e.g., a
feeling that one cannot stop eating or control what or how much one is eating)
(DSM (5th ed., [DSM 5], American Psychiatric Association [APA], 2013). Bulimia
was known to be very difficult to treat when it first was acknowledged (Hudson,
Pope, Harrison Jonas, 1983). Fortunately today it can be treated by drug or cognitive
therapy. Since that time, a vast variety of treatments have been looked into, and since
then two approaches have been known to establish efficacy (Hudson, et al.). One is
cognitive behavioral therapy.

Body contouring is defined as altering the shape of the body. There are many ways
that the body can be contoured. Many contouring treatments involve surgery. Any
operation can be risky, and it can take a long time to recover. Fortunately, you can
contour your body without surgery by getting endermologie. What Does
Endermologie Do? Endermologie is a treatment that uses a LPG Cellu M6
Keymodule. This device has been approved by the Food And Drug Administration
for body contouring and cellulite reduction. In fact, endermologie is currently the
only treatment that has been FDA approved for reducing cellulite. It can also reduce
cellulite. The LPG Cellu M6 Keymodule is applied directly to the skin. It suctions
the area and deeply massages it. Endermologie is not a painful procedure. In fact,

It was developed back in the 1980s by Louis Paul Guitauy. It was first used to treat
burns. It helps prevent the skin from contracting. It also helps loosen up scar tissue.
Scientists discovered that endermologie can also reduce cellulite. Today,
endermologie is performed in over 70 countries in the world. It is estimated that
70,000 women use this treatment every day. Additionally, 3,000 dermatologists and
plastic surgeons endorse this treatment. Other Benefits Of Endermologie Treatments
Body contouring and cellulite reduction are not the only benefits that can be reaped
from getting endermologie. Athletes get endermologie because it can help reduce
muscle soreness. It can also help soften the tissue, which increases flexibility.
Furthermore, it makes it easy for people to recover after doing vigorous exercise.
Results Of Endermologie Endermologie can deliver amazing results. However, it is
important to note that most people will need to get more than one treatment. In fact,
many people will need to get six or more treatments. People can maintain the results
of this treatment by getting maintenance
Australia Cash Rate
Determining the cash rate by the Reserve Bank of Australia establishes a number of
different factors for the Australian economy. The RBA is responsible for controlling
monetary policy and ensuring that Australia s financial system is stable. In light of
recent events that have impacted economic growth, the RBA has maintained a 2.0%
cash rate, which affects the overnight rate for loans to commercial banks.
Previously held at 2.25%, a decrease by 25 basis points brought down the cash rate
to 2.0%, an all time low in the past decade. The RBA held an expansionary stance to
promote investment and spending in the local economy in order to drive growth. It is
recommended that the RBA maintain the current cash rate of 2.0% in light of
consumer confidence... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In particular, a cause for concern is the housing bubble , which has caused house
prices to significantly increase. Property investment increased by 9% over the
year to last quarter, where Sydney s housing price has increased by 16.2% over the
past year, and 10.2% in Melbourne (CoreLogic RP Data). With increasing prices,
affordability worsens, where an inevitable rate hike by the Reserve Bank of
Australia will cause a price correction in the near future (Powell, 2015). However
rising prices don t normally present a problem where wages are also increasing. In
comparison, real wages only grew by meagre 2% in the past year. Thus consumers
have less money to spend, while also most of it is going towards repayments on
home loans (Spasic, 2015). With inflation levels relatively low, there would be no
reason to increase the cash rate, as growth rates are fairly low, as well as causing
the housing bubble to pop due to a disruption of a variety of factors. One of these
factors include, consumers who won t borrow as much, due to the cost of borrowing
increasing and thus a drop in demand, and therefore affecting real GDP due to the
drop in real estate value. In contrast, a reduction in the cash rate will further increase
housing prices and therefore accelerate the effects of the housing bubble which will
inevitably result in a correction

Security Planning After assessing the risk invovled with the organization
infrastructure. The next step is security planning which involves developing controls
and policies with techniques to help with security. The security strategies will define
a plan for reactive and proactive security planning. The planning is developed to
protect the company assets. Reactivly planning a contingency plan to implement
just in case the orginal plan failed. The security plan will consists of security
policies of specific guidelines for areas of responsibility to planning based on steps
taken and rules to follow to implement policies. Policies define the value of the
organization. This should specify steps taken to safeguard company assets. The risk
assesement determined whether the controls and policies are implemented.
Weaknesses and vulnerabilities exist in policies becasuse of humans factor and poor
security policies. Security policies that are stringent are often bypassed by people
which creates vulnerabilities for attacks and security breaches. For example,
implementing security keypad on server room. Adminstrator may become careless
wit entering PIN number or contriting access by using items to bypass security
controls. Within this paper, we will discuss how policies are use to implement
security plans. Policy are guidelines of
Following Proven Formulas
Every day consciously or subconsciously we are following proven formulas without
losing our integrity. It is important to copy those who have been successful because
of our morality by standing true to our own belief system, and choosing to follow
proven formulas every day. Every day I follow proven formulas without
compromising my integrity, my belief system, or my unique personality. For
example, when I go driving with my driving teacher I am following his instructions
based on how he learned, so I am imitating him based on his successfulness. He
obtained his driver s license, and I am trying to obtain my license. Consequently
every single day you are either consciously or subconsciously following a proven
formula. You keep your morals by
How Does Andrew Clements Use Of Figurative Language
2) In my found poem I was trying to illuminate the imagery and figurative language
found throughout the book, and show how it enhances the reading experience. This
passage was describing the sun setting and the night flowers blooming. By
condensing the passage into a found poem the figurative language and imagery were
highlighted, the not needed words cut out, and the words in general being switched
around. In the poem there is one simile that was in the original passage that I think
stands out, Darkness poured out, covering trees till they were dim as the bottom of
the sea. I chose this scene because in my opinion poems are better when they re full
of figurative language, and this one is. 1) Andrew Clements believes that dystopian

Effects Of Rock And Classical Music On The Heart Rate
Of...
Introduction
Knowing how music affects heart rate can allow athletes to choose the correct music
to make them more motivated and energized during their training sessions enhancing
their performance and improving their competitive results; in addition knowledge of
what genre of music could decrease their performance and times is equally important
(Roth, 2013). It is important to know if the music has the ability soothe ill patients in
hospitals as it may reduce their heart rate to in turn reduce their stress and
discomfort levels (Edelson, n.d.). Knowing how music affects heart rate will allow
people who suffer from stress, anxiety and/or disorders such as insomnia (abnormal
inability to get enough sleep) to slow down their heart rate to relax and go to sleep
easier and faster (Barnett, n.d.)
The aim of this project is to determine the effects that rock and classical music have
on the heart rate of grade 11 girls.
Rock music will speed up the heart rate while classical music will slow down the
heart rate of grade 11 girls.

My Best Experience
1,826 Days I met my best friends five years ago. A lot can happen in five years.
There are 1,826 days in five years. That means that over that span of time, the world
presents 1,826 fresh starts, each one containing a new experience. Every
experience brings its own array of emotions. You can learn a lot about someone by
the way that they react to new experiences. My friends and I have had our fair
share of new experiences together. We shared our experiences of our first day in
high school together, our first homecoming, having the freedom to drive, our first
relationship, our first heartbreak, family issues, even our first periods. Each one
was terrifying and exhilarating, and each one presented its own set of challenges.
What color dress should we get? Do you think we have enough gas to get there?
Should we believe him when he says it will only hurt a little? Was everything else
he said just a lie? Why does dad sleep on the couch now? How are we going to
make it through the day with these cramps? Every one of these questions we had to
answer our selves with nothing but the help of each other. We never found out the
right answers, and to this day we still don t know the right answers. We probably
never will. Although there probably is no right answer to any of the questions that
life presents us, searching for the answer has not only brought us closer together than
ever, it has also taught us things about ourselves and each other that we may have
never discovered. Since the
Examples Of Psychoanalysis In Alien
C. Psychoanalysis as a political weapon in Alien
i. Male action and female inaction There are two major examples of male
activeness and female passiveness in Alien: the chestburster scene and the
differences between Ripley and Dallas as the protagonist. In the iconic chestburster
scene the crew are seated peacefully as they prepare to return to stasis, however this
peace is disturbed when Kane convulses and a chestburster bursts out of him. Only
the male characters are active in this scene: Parker and Dallas initially comfort and
hold Kane down, Brett holds Kane s legs down, and Ash runs from the other side
(farther aways then Ripley and Lambert) to help. Ripley and Lambert initially reach
out towards Kane but eventually watch in horror as the alien bursts from him. Dallas,
Parker, and Brett were closer to Kane than Ripley so they have more reason for
helping; and Ash is the science officer so it makes sense for him to rush towards a
medical emergency. Switching one of the male characters with a female character
could have expounded on the seriousness of the scene (before the arrival of the
chestburster).
While subtle, the difference between the actions taken by Dallas and Ripley
exemplify the heterosexual differences in labor. Dallas protagonist is constantly in
motion: investigating the signal, defending Ripley from the dead facehugger, and
hunting the alien in the vents. Ripley s actions as protagonist are less active,
especially since she follows Dallas vent plan and
The Current Working Practices Of Ajs Maps A Company
Firstly, I will be talking about the current working practices of AJS Maps a company,
which provides and creates the maps for the Tourist Industry used as Tourist
Information Brochure. Moreover, there are various advantages and disadvantages for
the working practises. However, they are mainly negative.
Moreover, there is an office for the staffs for new projects to be able to do various
tasks. This means that the staffs will have plenty of space to do the tasks in the
room. As, well, as colleagues can help one another if they are confused with a
particular task they are unaware of. However, the disadvantage is that there are no
hardware or software, which will need to be purchased for the staffs to be able to do
a task. For example, if they were set a task to create a table in Adobe Dreamweaver
and use the Computer. Eventhough, there is unlimited internet the staffs will not be
able to do the tasks. Although, some of the staffs may have a computer or laptop not
all individuals would have their own laptop to do the tasks.
There is internet connection available, which means that the staffs have the
opportunity to go on the internet and download devices that they need to use
regularly. This is a decisive factor because in this society everyone uses Internet has
been perhaps the most outstanding innovation in the field of communication in the
history of mankind. Internet can be explained as a network of computers, designed
to receive and send data in the form of e mails,
Practical CSA
Practical CSA Historically, one practical CSA was administered at the end of the
third year (YR3) and a second practical CSA was administered at the beginning of
the fourth year (YR4.) It was determined these two exams were no longer
appropriately sequenced and did not meet the assessment needs of the DCP. In
response to recommendations made in the 2015 YR3 and YR4 CSA Outcomes
report, the YR4 practical exam was discontinued and the YR3 practical exam was
renamed the practical CSA. In correlation with this realignment, administration of the
practical CSA shifted to the end of Q9, when students have completed their
introductory clinical experience. Successful completion of the practical CSA is also

This is consistent with observations made previously on the YR4 CSA exam. This led
to the recommendation to order advanced imaging that was not indicated for this
patient. Many students also failed to identify ultrasound as a viable treatment options
and several mentioned afterwards that this modality is rarely utilized in the CHC,
partially due to clinician preference, but also because there was not currently a
functioning unit available. The SP 16 cohort struggled with the interpretation of lung
auscultation findings in the general exam PEP, missing a diagnosis of bronchitis.
Many misdiagnosed pneumonia, resulting in the recommendation of unnecessary
imaging and/or referral for antibiotics. As evident from the above discussion,
students performed better on stations assessing practical skills than the PEP stations
focused on critical thinking. It should also be noted that students tended to struggle
more on PEP stations utilizing short answer questions testing recall. Many left
responses blank or did not adequately focus their answers as appropriate. It also
appears as though students performed better on PEP stations in which they were
asked to identify differential diagnoses and follow up procedures over those
requiring a diagnosis / problem list with
Hands On Training Program
BBT should implement a hands on training program to facilitate learning transfer. A
hands on training method is tailored for job requiring a specific set of skills.
Individuals can be trained through a hands on learning program to ensure their
success and ability to perform. BBT requires individual repetition of skills to serve
their customers and utilizing the following hands on components: self directed
learning, simulation, case studies, and an apprenticeship will increase retention.
Self directed learning creates trainee empowerment. Motivation is key for the
success of self directed learning and BBT will need to explain how trainees can best
utilize this learning process. Content that is relevant to the job tasks need to be
developed outlining learning outcomes and be easily accessible. Trainers can
facilitate and assist the trainee if needed, but not required. Self directed learning is a
flexible component that promotes a motivated employee.
A simulation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An apprenticeship is a combination of classroom and on the job experience.
Minimum hours are established in federal and state laws to register as an
apprenticeship program. Depending upon the BBT training budget, and informal
apprenticeship may be put into practice. The main benefit for someone in an
apprenticeship is the ability to be paid while learning a skill and BBT could leverage
this model to increase their skilled workforce. Suggesting a hands on training
approach is an effective method for BBT to train their bank tellers. Trainers will have
multitude of training components to coach and demonstrate, while empowering the
trainee for success. Trainers can able to determine if the trainee has mastered the
skills needed before assigning them to their role. A BBT training program
incorporating a hands on approach will be beneficial to increase their employee
retention and provide superior customer
Summary Of Hemingway s Use Of Diction In A Farewell To
Arms
On September 29, 1929, The New York Times published a commentary piece on
Ernest Hemingway s A Farewell to Arms, describing his writing style as so
strikingly his own that it may bear his name, and is likely to henceforward (Love
and War in the Pages of Mr. Hemingway). Eighty six years later, readers can
experience this for themselves in the first paragraph of Chapter XXI of A Farewell to
Arms, Hemingway uses vivid imagery, staccato like syntax, and a detached tone
through simple diction to create his own unmistakable style. Hemingway s use of
vivid imagery is an aspect of his style that paints evocative pictures in a reader s
mind. One knows that when fall comes, the temperature drops and the leaves change

The characters speak about the war and how he said they had lost forty thousand
on the Carso besides. [They] had a drink and he talked (Hemingway 133). Frederic
Henry has just been told that 40,000 of his comrades in the war have died, and this
plain wording shows how unaffected and separated he is, contributing to the
overall detached tone of the passage. The unembellished language of this piece is
again prominent when he said the fighting was over for the year down here and
that the Italians had bitten off more than they could chew. He said the offensive in
Flanders was going to the bad (Hemingway 133). Frederic Henry, although not an
italian, is fighting on behalf of the Italian army and has many friends fighting in the
war and here he is speaking with another man about the inevitable fall of Italy as
though commenting on the day s weather. The simple and unemotional language
contributes to the overall novel by revealing aspects of Frederick Henry s character,
specifically his attitude towards the war. Hemingway s usage of simple diction to
create a detached tone is just another aspect of his diverse

Essay about Prospera, Thy Role Is Woman
William Shakespeare, in his play, The Tempest, tells the story of a fictional exiled
Duke of Milan. In the original play, Shakespeare casts the duke as a man, Prospero.
In a modern movie version of the play, writer and director Julie Taymor casts the
duke as a woman, Prospera powerfully portrayed by the very convincing
performance of Helen Mirren. The play, surprisingly, requires only a few very
minor line changes to substitute a woman lead for the original male role. While the
actual dialogue changes are minor, the impact to the play is substantial as it totally
transforms the duke and an audience s prospective of the character. With very few
exceptions, having a woman as the Duke of Milan in Shakespeare s The Tempest,
makes the duke more... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first examples can be seen in Prospera s ouster and exile starting with how
apparently easily Prospera was usurped. It is clear Prospera had the support of her
people when she tells Miranda, so dear the love my people bore me (Shakespeare
1.2.141). If the duke had the support of the people and magical arts to manipulate
people and events, it seems unlikely a rightful ruler could so easily be usurped, but
it becomes more plausible in Taymor s version where the position was only
assumed by Prospera upon her husband s death. Given it was not originally her
position to begin with and the predominant acceptance of male leaders at that time,
it is much more realistic that a woman could be usurped by her brother. Similarly,
the fact that Prospera was not killed outright and that she was aided by Gonzalo
also becomes more believable with the duke being a woman. To kill an ousted
rival would seem of little consequence at the time if that rival were a man, but it
takes on a much less noble air if that rival is a woman, and Gonzalo s actions to aid
Prospera defying Antonio and the king become more believable as it is not only an
act of kindness, but also a chivalrous act.
In addition to Prospera s ouster and exile, other examples of where having a
feminine duke is more believable can be seen by her actions on the island. One of
the first is Prospera s treatment of Caliban. After
The Basic Pistol Qualification Course
1. The basic pistol qualification course is not an accurate indication of firearms
proficiency for the experienced shooter. The basic pistol qualification course has to
be repeated if members allow their qualification to lapse. Qualifying on the basic
pistol course repeatedly is a time consuming and costly evolution. The basic pistol
qualification should be removed from the firearms re qualification standard.
2. Coast Guard policy currently requires that any pistol qualified members who
have allowed their qualification to lapse, or failed to re qualify on Practical Pistol
Course (PPC), must re qualify on the basic pistol course before attempting to
qualify on the PPC course. A lapse of qualification is identified as not qualifying on
the PPC course within 365 days of previous qualification. Failure to qualify on the
Sig Saur P226DAK service pistol may be attributed to many factors. Members can
fail to qualify for a number of reasons: Lack of familiarization with the weapon
system due to limited opportunities to practice with the P226DAK is the leading
factor. Many members will only fire with this weapons system during biannual
weapons qualification. Weapon costs and rental availability at gun shops and shooting
ranges in the members area make more practice and familiarity difficult at best, and
nonexistent at worst. Members may also fail to qualify on the PPC course due to
the many steps of the PPC course, and again, lack of practice in the various steps of

Corvus Research Paper
The constellation that I have chose for this essay is Corvus ( The Crow or The
Raven ). The reason I decided to write this essay on Corvus is because I have
always been fascinated with Apollo and the many things that he has been associated
with, prophecy and wisdom, with music and poetry, with medicine, law, philosophy,
and the arts. I also find the myth on Corvus very intriguing and interesting. As a
young child I used to read all about Greek mythology. Some interesting information
about the Crow is that it is said it s feathers were originally a snow white color but
after the bird delivered the news to Apollo that his love Coronis had been unfaithful
to him Apollo took his anger out on the bird turning his feathers into a black color
that the crows have been bearing ever since.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Apollo was about to offer a sacrifice to Zeus and he sent the Crow off with the cup
to collect water from a nearby spring. On the way there, the Crow was distracted by
a fig tree bearing fruit that was almost ripened. The Crow wanted to eat the fruit,
but not whilst it was unripened, so he waited two or three days for the fruit to
ripen. Apollo was still waiting for the Crow to return with the water. Eventually,
Apollo got tired of waiting and went to collect the water himself. Once the Crow
had ate his fill of the figs he returned with the water. Apollo, of course, was furious.
The Crow told Apollo that a water snake had been blocking the spring, but Apollo

Essay on Structure and Professional Bureaucracy
Reflect on your reading for the week, specifically Analytical Exercise 8. Is another
form of structural configuration better suited to multiproduct, multiservice
companies? If not, is there a form of departmentalization for multiproduct,
multiservice companies which would match somewhat the divisional structure
configuration?
Explain how the following somewhat match each other:
functional structure with simple structure
divisional structure with departmentalization by product
machine bureaucracy with centralized, mechanistic structure
professional bureaucracy with decentralized, organic structure
Functional structure and simple structure are the most common forms of structure.
Small companies use them forms of structure. ... Show more content on

Discussion 2
1) What kind of companies should employ the simple structure organizational
configuration?
Simple structure configurations are starter companies. They hire top level managers
to ensure the company serves its mission in the most effective way. Employees who
work for these types of companies only answer to one manager which is typically
the owner. These businesses mostly have a small crew that work there. These types
of organizations work their way up the divisional structure. An example of this type
of business would be a pet grooming. The owner is usually always present and there
are no managers.
2) What kind of companies should use the machine bureaucracy form of structure?
Bureaucracy structures are mass producing factories that work on a set routine
schedule and require strict rules which are implemented by several managers. These
types of companies are a stable work environment and employees do the same thing
every day. Any company that requires a uniform standard to operate and produces
mass quantities of a product will use this type of structure. An example of this type of
company would be Snap On.
3) What kinds of organization should feature a professional bureaucracy form of
structure?
A professional bureaucracy may be used when a company relies on highly skilled
Bees Vs Wasps Compare And Contrast
Many people are unaware of the difference between bees and wasps, and consider
them both harmful. However, this isn t not the case. Although they may look
similar in color, and behavioral characteristics there are differences. In this essay
im going to be comparing bees and wasps. For the bees im going to be explaining
about their scientific name, their lifespan, and how many species there are in the
world. I m also going to be explaining about how bees attack, what they look like,
and how many bees are in one colony, etc. Then for the wasps i m going to be
explaining, their scientific name, their lifespan, and what they do when they attack.
Also what they do when it is the winter months, and what their average speed is.
Then for my last paragraph i m going to be explaining what they have in common.

then they will die. Bees unlike wasps have a hairy bodies and legs. A honey bee

the honey that they created and they won t freeze because all the worker bees are

Reflective Essay on Writing Techniques I Have Learned
Over the past few months, I have learned several different writing techniques.
While all of the different types of papers were difficult to write, I believe that my
writing skills have improved. In fact, I did not understand all of the assignments,
but I did try to do my best on all of them. While I should have used more transitional
words in between sentences and paragraphs, I feel that I learned a great deal. It is
true that I have not had very much writingexperience and the writing process is
difficult for me. Sometimes, I do admit, it takes days to complete one assignment, but
it will be worth it when I am a proficient writer.
For example, the research paper was one of the most difficult assignments that I have

I did not introduce the person effectively. For example, when quoting someone, one
should write something such: as Balko points out that, he is upset with insurance
companies (Balko). This example is in my own words and is an example of a
paraphrase. I quoted people and then would not write what I thought about the quote
afterwards. When doing this in an essay, the teacher has no way of knowing what the
student is trying to convey. A proper quote should start with an introduction. After the
introduction, you have to say what the person has said, followed by what you think
about what they said. After doing this, a student should cite the author by using
parentheses. I did not know that a writer was supposed to do this. My first paper was
very inadequate.
Additionally, I also cited sources and then forgot where I got the information.
However, the use of citing information and research was also one of my debilitating
points. Nevertheless, I believe after the reminders, corrections, and proofreading that
needed pointing out to me, helped me improve in this area.
Research in the library labs were very helpful and informative in spotting web sites
that were biased and did not have creditable information. Many people make web
sites that are not credible and it is always good to select scholarly sources when
writing research papers for school. When one researches a subject, you should always
keep good records. I am a disorganized person, and lose
Victorian Era Games
Have you ever wondered what games were played in the Victorian Era. There are
many different types of games that you can play, but I m just going to give a few
examples of what games they played back then. First game that we are going to talk
about is Lawn Tennis. Lawn Tennis was first invented in 1874. Tennis was one of the
most enjoyed sports in the Victorian Era, although tennis can be traced to fourteenth
century France. The gamewas played in nineteenth century United States, but it was
invented in England. Major T.H . Gem and Mr. Perera are created with creating the
game. The first tennis tournament was played at Nahant, Massachusetts, in 1876.
William Appleton, James Dwight, and Fred R. Sears organized the event. Dwight and
Sears battled their way through the rest of the competition and they met in the finals.
Dwight beat Sears three to zero sets.
Another popular game that was played in the Victorian Era is Twenty Questions.

Analysis of Microsoft Office 2003
Introduction/Executive Summary Microsoft Office 2003 remains a viable suite
for many home and small business users. However, our future oriented company
should ideally upgrade its systems to support the latest version of Microsoft
Office: Office 365. Office 365 is a subscription based service relying heavily on
cloud computing. This allows us to share files easier amongst ourselves and with
our clients. Because it is possible to run several copies of Microsoft Office on the
same system, the transition from Office 2003 to Office 365 will be smooth. It is
recommended that the company upgrade its systems to Office 365 because of the
improved cloud capabilities, and so that our systems do not become outdated too

without too much difficulty. In fact, several of our computers are running the
latest version of Windows (Windows 8), which will allow for the smoothest
possible transition from Microsoft Office 2003 to Microsoft Office 365. Even our
servers running Microsoft Windows Server 2012 would be better off with the latest
version of Office, which is 365. The system requirements for using Office 365 are
not different from those required to run our current versions of Office 2003 (
Software Requirements for Office 365, 2013). Furthermore, Office 365 will now

Who Owns Anne Frank
Initially published in 1947, two years after Anne Frank s death in a concentration
camp, The Diary of a Young Girl was eventually translated into 65 languages,
making it immensely popular worldwide. The diary is considered a staple of
Holocaust literature and commonly read by young adults who find Anne to be an
identifiable voice. Its popularity has led writers to consider the implications of the
various translated versions of the diary and Broadway adaptations. In the article, The
Misuse of Anne Frank s Diary, one such Jewish American author, Cynthia Ozick,
poses the question Who owns Anne Frank? as she seeks to explore these
implications of The Diary of a Young Girl. Early in the article, she asserts her opinion
clearly, believing that The Diary of a Young Girl has been bowdlerized, distorted,
transmuted, traduced, reduced; it has been infantialized, Americanized, homogenized,

character, Nathan Zuckerman, spends a considerable amount of time imagining that
Anne Frank survived the war and is now using the identity of Amy Bellette in the

the Amy/Anne plot device it becomes apparent that Roth is also raising similar
questions to Cynthia Ozick. Through this plot device, Roth ultimately critiques the
Americanization of Anne Frank s story, particularly through its Broadway adaptation,
and its treatment as an Holocaust text. By exploring an adult version of Anne Frank,
Roth problematizes America s sensationalized response to The Diary of a Young Girl
by drawing parallels to the Broadway adaptation and juxtaposing the words of Nathan

A Holiday Essay Holiday
Holiday Essay Have you ever had to leave a party because your dad was fully ready
to cause serious bodily harm? I have. Every year we would go to two Fourth of
July parties; now we go to one. I think everyone who has celebrated the holiday has
at least one memory of the time something went haywire during Independence Day.
Lots of people party on the Fourth of July and things tend to go wrong every now
and then but it does not usually stop people from partying. In our case it did hinder
the festivities. What could have happened that was so bad that we quit going? This is
the story of the time a drunk man shot fireworksat children. Fourth of July is a big
holiday for many Americans. We celebrate the anniversary of the signing of the
Declaration of Independence from England in 1776. Most people celebrate by
watching firework displays or setting of some themselves, if the weather and laws
permit. America is a nation full of pyromaniacs. Who could blame us? Fire is fun.
Fire is not the only fun thing about the Fourth though. Cookouts and parties are
common, as is alcohol. Sometimes accidents happen when pyrotechnics and
alcohol mix, such as: destroyed property, like a shirt catching an ember and having
a hole burned through it, fires if the wind spends a spark dancing into a tree or
some grass, missing fingers (do not hold firecrackers, I repeat do not hold
firecrackers), and burns, sometimes, even if you do everything right, something could

research information was gathered from two websites. The role the media plays in

significance of news media on culture and society is huge and changing from day to

The media is to entertain, but more important to inform and to avoid conflicts of
interest. News markets would love to earn the respect of their viewers. Providing
the truth and the most breaking news this improves their ratings. Once the news
media violates that trust people will find another form to get their news. The
media has a huge influence on the public opinion. The media and their owners
need to be held to high levels of accountability. They should stay in compliance
with the laws, codes, and regulations. The legal and ethical issues for the online
community are the same as if it were not online. Oftentimes it is easy to violate
these online than if gathering information from the textbook or encyclopedia. It
can very easy to post a picture and if this picture has a copyright then it would be a
violation of copyright infringement laws. Sometimes it is easy to miss this and we
often use material found on the Internet without permission. There can be legal
ramifications from this action. Technology is a part of our everyday lives and our
world. The way the news and information is reaches our homes has improved
considerably over the last 20 years. Technology is a science and offers areas of
study in regard to this science. Some advantages of the modern delivery is the
convenience of reaching many people at one time. This is helpful for many reasons a

Belle Fleurs Business Analysis
Business Plan Idea
The business that I have chosen is called Belle Fleurs. Customers have the
opportunity to buy handcrafted bouquets, cards, or just beautiful flowers. It was
delegated the name Belle Fleurs because flowers in French is fleurs. Belle means
beautiful as well. This idea of a small flower shop came as a sudden inspiration to
me. I have always had an admiration towards flowers. I felt that there was room in
the florist in industry, which made me realize it would be a good idea to create a
flower shop. I have taken a variety of courses that may help me achieve the goal of
this business. Business Concepts, Personal Finance, Accounting and now
Entrepreneurship show that I am capable of pursuing this business.
I have a few objectives for this store that will help us succeed. One of our goals is
that we break even the first year. This may seem like an ambitious goal but we are
very driven and feel that we are capable of doing it. When the first year is over we
would like to minimize the manufacturing cost by 10%. This could help bring the
cost of making the product down so that our profit margin will go up. Our company
would also like to maximize the consumer satisfaction. We would like to have 85%
of our customers be satisfied. The reason that we have picked this number is because
not everyone will be happy with the product because consumers may have different
reasons that they dislike the product that we can not change. We will try our best to
How Crime and Deviance Can Be Seen As Functional for
Society
Crime and deviance are acts that will elicit dissent from society. They take various
forms and involve various concepts and theories. It will be the aim of this paper to
explore those that are considered to be functional for society. It was Emile
Durkheim who first clearly established the logic behind the functional approach to
the study of crime and deviance[1] when he wrote The Rules of Sociological
Method and The Division of Labour[2]. In those works, Durkheim argued that crime
and deviance is an integral part of all healthy societies . He reasoned that crime and
deviance are not only inevitable, but also functional for society and that they will
only be considered dysfunctional when they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

As societies expanded due to the economic demands posed by the Industrial
Revolution, Durkheim said that the moral ties which bounded society together were
weakened. Therefore, as society became more complex, a mechanism was
engineered to effectively regulate these relationships and the result was the legal
system[5]. The codification of moral behaviour, through laws, created guide lines for
large scale societies. The foundation of these boundaries is in effect a function of
crime and deviance, because without crime and deviance, on what basis would these
laws be drafted upon? It follows that when a crime is committed, the legal locomotive
will set in to punish the convicted accordingly. Without dwelling into the functions of
punishment, the concept of Durkheim s Degrading Ceremonies must be explained.
Through agencies like the mass media and the Courts (when conducting public
hearings), criminal behaviour would be publicised. The publicising of these acts
functions to make the public aware of the tolerance of society, and also reinforces the
society s opinion of such criminal behaviour. This promotion of boundary
maintenance [6] brings upon the next function of crime and deviance integration.
When a crime is so deviant that it far exceeds society s tolerance, it triggers public
alarm and outrage[7] that draws the
Causes Of Gangs
When the word gangs comes to mind, one can immediately picture a big, tall male
figure often covered with tattoos, piercings, and maybe even a bald headed guy.
One might think that gangs only occur in areas like Los Angeles, Brooklyn, and
areas illustrated in movies. Gangs are also becoming more glorified in the media.
For example, while listening to a rap song on the radio, some sort of gangreference
will come up. Gangscan often target the young and the vulnerable due to many
reasons, such as peer pressure and fear. Also, they may target someone who is in
need and vulnerable for falling into gang violence and actions.
Some of the direct causes for individuals to join gangs are due to the social aspect. It
can be because of the peer ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Once you re in, there are only two ways to get out: by dying or running (Martinez
Pg 33). Therefore, sometimes young adults or even adults feel pressured to be
involved or to continue being involved in gangs because they have the fear of being
murdered. Sometimes the fear of being left out pressures them into getting involved
in gangs, and they end up leading a violent lifestyle. Since gangs are typically
associated with fear, most individuals can fall into this peer pressure to join a gang
due to fear of the consequences which can range from violence, like threats, to even
their death.
Another aspect of feeling accepted can come from family related issues. Young
people might feel that they don t receive enough support or attention at home.
They may be trying to escape a negative home life, or may be looking for a father
figure. Gangs often make promises to give unconditional support and to become
the family they never had (Why People Join Gangs). In some cases, individuals
who join gangs can be looking for a way out of their home. This can be due to
family issues they are experiencing, or also they may not be receiving attention in
their home. Gangs are often seen in areas where poor living conditions occur and
where social economic statuses are present.Children and teens living in these
circumstances can experience lack of attention simply because the family needs to
work and meet ends meet. This circumstance, which does not seem so malicious, can

The Adoption Of Geneva Conventions
Introduction
Wars have been always a menace and a threat to humanity. Throughout of the ages,
the noble spirited and peace loving people have tried to bring an end to the hostility
and conflicts among human beings. The adoption of Geneva Conventions in 1949
was seen as a significant break though in this regard and it was hoped that human
sufferings resulting from armed conflicts will be minimized to a considerable extent
if not eliminated completely. Even after the passage of about eight decades of the
adoption of Geneva Conventions, this dream is still far from realization. During all
these years we saw different nations interpreting and using the rules of Geneva
Conventions in different ways suiting their interest.
This differing practice on the part of different nations did a lot of harm to the
common cause of protecting the life and well being of human beings. A major
divergence from Geneva Convention rules has been seen post 9/11. The 9/11
incidents and subsequent war on terror gave rise to a completely new form of armed
conflict which resulted in new legal challenges. As this war on terror is a non
traditional war which was almost unfamiliar by the times when Geneva Conventions
were framed so, most of the rules of Geneva Conventions were focused on
international armed conflicts. Traditionally, we witnessed armed conflicts in which
states stood against other states but in recent decades, especially after the dawn of
21st century, these armed conflicts have become

The objective is to increase high margin product sales by enticing customers to buy,
and in addition to adding high margin sales with semi specialty item sales. On the
other side, Clariant should modify the incentives for the salespeople for all three
above strategic options.
It is nearly impossible to break even with low margin items, because one would need
to sell enough to recover hard/soft costs as well as opportunity costs. High margin
items on the other hand may requires a higher demand on product knowledge.
Therefor, it is a better opportunity to increase higher margin sales with creative sales
techniques.
2. What kinds of non financial criteria might Clariant Corporation use to evaluate the
strategic options?
Non financial items are a set of variables such as customer satisfaction, job
satisfaction, management control system (MCS) that are not measured by financial
systems. Non financial criteria might effect the company s business decision or

Non financial performances are important to predict the future performance of the

The Golden Age Of Piracy
Hollywood portrays pirates as swashbuckling outlaws with their own set of rules and
loose morals, nefarious hideouts, and adventure at every turn of their lives; but that s
Hollywood. During the Golden Age of Piracy, about 1550 to 1730, pirates did
traverse the Atlantic almost completely unchallenged; producing some of the most
notorious pirates and privateers the world had ever seen. But not all of these pirates
were outlaws, most were actually legal. And their hideouts weren t really hideouts at
all; just cities that were afraid of the Spanish and thought the pirates could protect
them. And adventure? Well, some of the best and most infamous pirates didn t want

Question two; how did entire cities and islands become pirate hideouts? During the
early Colonial era, the Spanish reigned supreme in the Caribbean. They were
rapidly colonizing the islands of the Caribbean and gaining wealth with every step.
These cities were afraid of being overthrown by the Spanish and wanted protection
from these invaders. One of the first to offer up their ports was Port Royal,
Jamaica. . Port Royal became one of the most infamous pirate hideouts of all time
and was considered the wickedest city on Earth . It all started in the mid 1600s
when Jamaica s governors decided to allow all pirates and privateers, who were
not Spanish, to stay in return for protection from the Spanish. And of course, they
accepted. Soon after the city was filled with British and French privateers,
including the famous Sir Henry Morgan who used Port Royal as a sort of home
base for his raids on Spanish strongholds such as Portobello, Caratenga, and Panama
City. By the 1660s, Port Royal was filled with every disreputable establishment
known to mankind. But by 1720, Jamaica had to cut relations with the pirates due to
raids on every ship that came into port. Port Royal then became known for pirate
hangings. Other cities and islands like New Providence, Bahamas, have similar
stories to tell. But one other island has a different story. Around 1630, French hunters,
who occupied Hispaniola, modern day Haiti, had to flee the island

For the most part I really appreciated Gregory s answers and found them to be very
insightful, as well as theologically correct. I liked his defense of God when Edward
blamed Him for all the evil in the world. I also like how he explained the freedom
that God has chosen to give each of us, and that that very freedom, which was
given so that true love could exist, must also bear with it the possibility of evil.
Gregory said in one of his responses If we have the potential to oppress or slay
millions, it s because we also have the potential to liberate and love millions. I
thought Gregory did an exceptional job of explaining salvation to his father as
well. He gave great evidence that the Bible was, in fact, true and reliable. I,
personally, was very pleased with the apologetic effort of Dr. Boyd.
There were just a couple of things that, I did not necessarily disagree with, but that
definitely challenged my way of thinking. The first is about God s omniscience. In
Terry Bowland s Romans class, while discussing Calvinism, we went over this a
little bit. My understanding of what Dr. Bowland believes (I am sure he would
explain it better) is that God does know the future. He knows everything. Before I
was born He knew the choices I would be making today. He did not predestine me
to make these decisions, but because he is Almighty God, He simply knows the
choices that I will make. That all made sense to me until I

PTSD In Shutter Island
In the movie, Shutter Island, the audience follows the path of Edward Daniels,
Teddy a US Marshall, who has been summoned to the Boston Harbor Island to
investigate the disappearance of a patient named Rachel Solando, while secretly
Teddy was there to find Andrew Laeddis, who he believed killed his wife Dolores
Chanal. Though in reality Teddy is really Andrew Laeddis and he killed his wife after
coming home from work one Saturday to find that Dolores his wife had drown their
three children in the lake behind their home. Andrew was arrested for murder of his
wife and was sentenced to the mental institution for rehabilitation through a
government funded project. While in this institution Andrew constantly struggled

The Mayo clinic surmised that a patient who has PTSD may have frequent
dramatic flashbacks of the traumatic event, nightmares, problems with
remembering memories including important parts of the traumatic event, they
may have feelings of guilt, trouble concentrating, and possible self destructive
behavior. PTSD can be treated with cognitive therapy, exposure therapy, eye
movement desensitization and reprocessing, and medications such as
antidepressants and anti anxiety medications(). Teddy experienced two great
traumas in his life. One being what he saw during the time he spent in Dachau
during World War II. He stated that he could not believe that the Nazi s would
experiment on their own people and now he was convinced that the United States
was doing the same thing by performing psychosurgeries on patients in Shutter
Island(). He had frequent flashbacks to the things he did and experienced during
his service in World War II. He often saw dead bodies lying around in the snow
with the image of his dead daughter on top of the bodies asking him why he did not
try to save her. The second major trauma experienced by Teddy occurred when he
came home to find that his wife had drowned their three children. Teddy then used
his personal revolver to shoot and kill his wife, freeing her from what Dolores,
described to him as, the insect living inside her brain, she could feel it clicking
across her skull pulling wires just for fun.() This post traumatic stress disorder and
alcohol abuse greatly contributed to the development of dissociative identity disorder

Argumentative Essay On Energy Use
The United States is known for its excessive use of energy. I remember in class,
SOME of our classmates that were from other countries, were shocked at how much
energy we use and waste. This is a clear indication of the US s attitude towards
energy use, which is that we take it for granted. When I went to Ukraine, I remember
how limited energyuse was. I was only around 10 or 11 and I was shocked that
nobody turned their porch lights on at night and I was even more so shocked to find
out that most people didn t even have a porch light. I understand that the porch light
here in America is used as a deterrent for robberies, people feel safer if their lights
are on. Another thing is how people drive for fun, I ve heard friends of mine just
aimlessly driving around because they are bored and have nothing to do and even
that was a surprise for me. We need to somehow create a more efficient way of
consuming energy. Sometimes using less energy may not be the answer to using
less, for example our houses need to be heated but many aren t well built and
insulated. When my family and I moved into our current house about 15 years ago,
we noticed that the insulation had not been changed for about 60 years and my
father decided to reinsulate the house. The next winter after re insulation, our energy
use was almost a quarter of what we used last winter. This is indeed an extreme
example, due to the poor construction of our house, and I believe that not every house
is made that way, but it
Mefecane, Used To Describe The Events In African History
Mefecane
Introduction.
Mefecane as generally used to describe the events in African history which can be
characterised by series of wars and migration (especially the African tribes within
the sub continent of Africa). There are many schools of thought as to why these
migrations and wars took place, that is generally known as Mefecane(Wright). There
are many schools of thought, based on specific causes for the Mfecane. These
schools are known by the cause they argues, the causes are overpopulation, trade,
political changes and environmental causes. This essay will however argue that there
is no monocasual exsplanation for the Mfecane, but that the Mfecane took place due
to all these causes present simitaneasly. Thus will all the monocasual causes be
discuased with their flaw, to support the idea that the Mfecane is caused by all these
causes present at the same time.
What was Mefecane: History
During the 1820 s the southern area of Africa went through a drastic population

This explosion in population growth led to excess pressure on the environment
which also had an effect on mfecane took place. The reason for this is this led to
competition in the few regions left with good ground, thus leading to wars and
conquest which opened the door for great leaders like shake to stand out. An
example is the war of 1816 that broke out between the Ngwee and Dawned
kingdom. This is a good example of what was going on in the 1810 1820 s these
two kingdoms were neighbours up until the demand for land increased, and
competition, increased which led to a war. Wars based on resources and land

Online Voting For E Democracy
ONLINE VOTING FOR E DEMOCRACY IN DEVELOPING COUNTRIES: IS IT

Julius Jillbert Hasanuddin University (UNHAS) Indonesia

ABSTRACT
Issues such as reliability, security and affordability of voting procedures might be
seen as factors that can stimulate enthusiasm upon democracy system among
potential voters and increase participation. This paper argue that online voting may
play important role on enhancing security and cutbacks of burden human and
financial resources allocation to election processes. However, in the emerging
democracies, like some of Asian countries, in this case Indonesia, exhibit other
factors, such as political, cultural, educational, economic sensibilities, that might be
weighted before any online voting system is deployed.

citizens to the liberty and responsibility of shaping their own careers and conducting
their own affairs; equality before the law; and universal suffrage and education. One

facilitate for the orderly transfer of power. The general election itself consists of
several activities such as the process of registering citizens to vote, preparing ballots,

Reduce Energy Usage
Strategies to Reduce Energy Usage in Offices and increase IT Sustainability
Research Studies by Intel Corporation.
According to an Intel White Paper of December 2009, Intel reported these studies
about reduction of energy usage in offices.
Evaluating Enabling Technologies
Replacing Desktop PCs and Cathode Ray Tube Monitors: Over the last decade
companies have shifted to laptop PCs for about 83 percent of the workforce, primarily,
in an effort to increase employee productivity. A secondary benefit has been to
significantly improve energy efficiency. To determine the factors that affect office
power consumption, and further improve energy efficiency, Intel conducted a power

Intel s studies have shown that raising employees awareness of how much power
their equipment is consuming, and getting them involved in reducing that amount, is
critical to success in reducing energy use in the office environment. We have taken
an example of the Intel Company: Intel conducted a small PoC that explored how
they could encourage behavior modification by showing employees that small
things, such as using standby mode on their laptops or turning off a printer when it
s not being used, can add up to big savings. During this PoC, they first established a
baseline of energy consumption through real time metering of energy use in 12
cubicles. In one group, they focused solely on awareness and education. Every two
to three days, Intel provided this group with information on how much energy they
were using, and how much it cost. They did not provide any other information or
requests to change behavior to the members of this group. For the second group they
installed a third party software agent that deployed and enforced power management
profiles. The profiles were set up to put the monitor into standby after ten minutes of
idle time, and to put the PC into standby after 30 minutes of idle time. After two
additional weeks of real time metering, Intel examined the energy use of the two
groups.
Lord Of The Flies Comparison
A role model should guide individuals through life s struggles in the same way an
example math problem shows a student how to use a formula. Both Aldous Huxley
s 1932 science fiction novel Brave New World and William Golding s 1954

serenity around the Christ figure to give the audience an inspirational role model.
People with no experience in the modern world are sometimes the only people that
will truly appreciate the simplistic and rational parts in life. Huxley uses John the

2006 Hawaii Earthquake
On the islands of Hawaii a 6.6 earthquake hit the island Honolulu. The lack of
electricity gave them no communication with the mainland.
After and the aftershocks, there was fear of a tsunami people started to worry. The
Pacific Tsunami Warning Center issued a report saying that no tsunami is expected,
although officials at the center warned of the possibility of one in Hawaii. There was
so much damage they did not know what to do.
Knocking out electrical power to many of the islands and forming a landslide that
rained boulders on the major highway on the biggest island. Emergency management
officials also told residents and others to stay put if they could,
A Comparison Of Memento And Memento Mori
Unlike other pairs of literary work and their adaptations that the movie version is
published after the literary work, Memento and Memento Mori are created in the
inverse order. The main plot of the two stories is very similar: a man having no short
term memory finding and killing the murder of his wife. They are inspired by the
same idea, anterograde amnesia. For creators, the factors they need to look at when
presenting a story largely depend on the medium of story telling. The qualities of
different mediums and the characteristics of the audiences of that medium determine
many preferences of creators when designing the plotand the characters. Of course,
those preferences are not rigid rules, but we can easily find that there are many
common traits among the literary products or movie products of the same type. This
is also why some literary works and movies are criticized to be formulaic. In
MementoMori , the author deleted some elements that are presented in the movie to
make the story more suitable to be presented in the text. The first thing deleted from
the movie is a large proportion of the plot. In Memento , the director presented a
relatively complete story line, and explained how the whole event happens in detail.
Although the movie is not chronological and is rather obscure, audiences still can
have a thorough understanding of what happens at the end of the story. However, in
Memento Mori , the focus of storytelling is different. The author did not

Denial of Service (DoS) is a major threat in every type of Computer Network,
including Internet, Cloud Services and Sensor Networks. In this paper we propose
novel Security Metrics to compute the severity and impact of a Denial of Service
(DoS) attack, which helps to accurately and precisely estimate the monetary loss
incurred by an organization. These metrics are quantitative in nature and map Quality
of Service (QoS) requirements into measurable and acceptable threshold parameters.
The test results of the application of these metrics using Network Simulator are
presented. The work for implementation of these metrics in Network Management
Systems (NMS) and Visualization tools is in progress. Key Words: Security Metrics,
Denial of Service, Network Attack 1.INTRODUCTION Metrics are scales of
measurement used for improvement and scientific decision making. Security metrics
are useful for quantitatively measuring an organization s security level or of security
vulnerabilities of an entity. For comprehensive network security and Cyber
Situational Awareness Management, security metrics play significant role as
proactive protection measures rather than reactive analysis
Laocoon and His Sons
This essay is an attempt to address the marble sculpture commonly known as
Laocoon and His Sons, and why exactly I believe it to be a work of high art, of
great value and significance to the species. Laocoon and His Sons is a marble
sculpture representing a scene that is a part of the tale of the siege and invasion of
Troy. Laocoon was the protagonist in a play by Sophocles that is now lost. He was
also written about by Virgil. The statue itself is one of the most famous sculptures
of Greek and Roman antiquity, its subject is Laocoön, a Trojan high priest, who,
along with his two sons, is according to legend attacked and killed by two snakes, or
sea serpents. The tale is known as myth, but its content may have symbolic roots in

History is hearsay. We can t be sure. One of the pieces defining characteristics, what
makes it such a marvel, is how the physique is anatomically perfect. This speaks of
a highly developed culture, with an intricate understanding of anatomy and
physiology. But, also of a culture that privileges physical strength and beauty. The
Greeks of the time were either artists or warriors, or often both, so strength and
beauty were central in their world. Laocoon and His Sons is a much more
naturalistic piece than earlier Greek works; in which the figures were often
idolized; lacking luster, life, emotion, humanity. Cleobis and Biton, a set of
sculptures from the Archaic Period, exemplify this quite well; posing, rigid, golem
like figures; lacking the humanity they are supposed to represent. The Hellenistic
baroque style of Laocoon and His Sons gives us a much more true to life
representation in comparison to earlier works. This work has inspired artists and
regular humans alike down through the centuries, one of whom it is particularly
well known to have influenced greatly was Michelangelo; as can be seen in some
of his pieces; e.g: The rebellious Slave. I summation, I think this piece is truly of
note to art historians. Above, I have highlighted some reasons I think this is the case.

  • 2. 5361 THE CASE OF ALICIA- ANOREXIA U9 Final Assignment: The Case of Alicia Flor ChavezCOUN5106 Assessment Tests and Measures December 13, 2014 Lynn Jones Ph.D. Unit 9 Final Assignment Diagnosing potential Anorexia nervosa is not always easy, and Alicia s case, based on information given and her representation, is not clear cut. Researchers argue that the diagnosis has to be done carefully and potential ambiguities have to be resolved (Baer Blais, 2010). For example, some researchers have argued that one criterion, such as a fear of being fat, can decrease significantly when the person actually loses some weight (Surgenor Maguire, 2013). For reasons like this, selecting the primary question, namely whether or not the patient has Anorexia... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first thing to consider is Alicia s BMI. She stated that her weight is 120 pounds, but based on her appearance and loose fitting clothes, it could be that she underreports her weight as it is quite common for individuals with eating disorders to hide and lie about their real weight. So if we are to assume that Alicia s weight is at least five pounds less than she says (which is a conservative estimate), her BMI is around 19.1. This score indicates the borderline situation, which, according to some researchers, is on the low range of normal weight (Hilbert et al., 2007). According to other researchers, this BMI will put Alicia in the underweight category. Still, this weight is not yet dangerously low, so additional assessment is needed. The Eating Attitude Test yields the overall score and has three subscales that can help determine some specifics. The overall score has a cutoff of 20, and those who score less than 20 are considered as not having an eating disorder, while those who score 20 and more will have to be evaluated by the follow up assessment tool (Garner Garfinkel, 1979). The subscales reveal information about bulimia, food preoccupation, dieting and oral control subscales. If any of behavioral questions are selected, this adds additional evidence as to the presence of weight controlling behaviors. Accordingly, if Alicia has a BMI that falls into the underweight category according to this test, scored 20 or more, and selected at least
  • 3. The Transport Revolution Essay The Transport Revolution Until late in the 1700 s, in both Europe and America, most roads were either rough tracks created by hoof and wheel or mere paths blazed through the wilderness. People traveled by horseback or on foot between towns. During cold or wet seasons, traffic was especially difficult or impossible. One of the problem was that each parish had to mend its own roads. Most people in the parish had to work 4 or 6 days on the roads each year, or pay money instead. Not surprisingly, they disliked this and skirted the work. During the eighteenth century, a new system developed. Groups of men agreed to keep a stretch of road in good repair if they could charge a fee to every one who... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The fast running mail and stage coaches needed better roads. In the early 1800s, three great roadbuilders began to provide them. One of the most remarkable was John Metcalfe from Knaresborough in Yorkshire (even though he was blind, he led a very active life). He was nearly fifty years old when he constructed his first Turnpike road (1765) and in the next twenty seven years, he supervised the construction of nearly 300 kilometers of Turnpikes (mostly in Yorkshire and Lancashire). He paid special attention to the bed of the road and where the soil was soft, he laided great quantities of heather as a foundation for layers of stone and gravel. John used jagged broken stones which bound together under the pressure of wheeled vehicles (see source 3). Thomas Telford was born in Westerkirk, Dumfries, Scotland, in 1757, the son of a poor Scottish shepherd. He apprenticed for a time to a stonemason, but then trained as a surveyor, before moving to London in 1792 in search of work. He found employment working on Somerset House in the capitol, but later moved to Portsmouth to work on the docks. A patron from Dumfries got him the post of Surveyor of Public Works for the County of Shropshire. In this capacity he was responsible for the construction of the Ellesmere Canal in 1793, and the Severn Suspension Bridge at Montford (1790). This bridge was an
  • 4. The Importance Of Treatment For Bulimia Nervosa This paper demonstrates the significance of treatment for Bulimia Nervosa as well as which way of treatment is best for Bulimia. The purpose of this research is to analyze the best treatments for Bulimia Nervosa. More emphasis on the question, is Bulimia Nervosa best treated with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy or with antidepressants such as Adapin or Prozac? Furthermore, in the paper the results will indicate the efficacy of treatment of which method of treatment is best for Bulimia. Bulimia Nervosa is characterized by The Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders as eating in a discrete period, of time (e.g., within any two hour period), and amount of food that is definitely larger than what most individuals would eat in a similar period of time under similar circumstances (DSM (5th ed., [DSM 5], American Psychiatric Association [APA], 2013). It can also be characterized as a sense of lack of control over eating during the episode (e.g., a feeling that one cannot stop eating or control what or how much one is eating) (DSM (5th ed., [DSM 5], American Psychiatric Association [APA], 2013). Bulimia was known to be very difficult to treat when it first was acknowledged (Hudson, Pope, Harrison Jonas, 1983). Fortunately today it can be treated by drug or cognitive therapy. Since that time, a vast variety of treatments have been looked into, and since then two approaches have been known to establish efficacy (Hudson, et al.). One is cognitive behavioral therapy.

It was developed back in the 1980s by Louis Paul Guitauy. It was first used to treat burns. It helps prevent the skin from contracting. It also helps loosen up scar tissue. Scientists discovered that endermologie can also reduce cellulite. Today, endermologie is performed in over 70 countries in the world. It is estimated that 70,000 women use this treatment every day. Additionally, 3,000 dermatologists and plastic surgeons endorse this treatment. Other Benefits Of Endermologie Treatments Body contouring and cellulite reduction are not the only benefits that can be reaped from getting endermologie. Athletes get endermologie because it can help reduce muscle soreness. It can also help soften the tissue, which increases flexibility. Furthermore, it makes it easy for people to recover after doing vigorous exercise. Results Of Endermologie Endermologie can deliver amazing results. • 6. Australia Cash Rate Determining the cash rate by the Reserve Bank of Australia establishes a number of different factors for the Australian economy. The RBA is responsible for controlling monetary policy and ensuring that Australia s financial system is stable. In light of recent events that have impacted economic growth, the RBA has maintained a 2.0% cash rate, which affects the overnight rate for loans to commercial banks. Previously held at 2.25%, a decrease by 25 basis points brought down the cash rate to 2.0%, an all time low in the past decade. The RBA held an expansionary stance to promote investment and spending in the local economy in order to drive growth. It is recommended that the RBA maintain the current cash rate of 2.0% in light of consumer confidence... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In particular, a cause for concern is the housing bubble , which has caused house prices to significantly increase. Property investment increased by 9% over the year to last quarter, where Sydney s housing price has increased by 16.2% over the past year, and 10.2% in Melbourne (CoreLogic RP Data). With increasing prices, affordability worsens, where an inevitable rate hike by the Reserve Bank of Australia will cause a price correction in the near future (Powell, 2015). However rising prices don t normally present a problem where wages are also increasing. In comparison, real wages only grew by meagre 2% in the past year. Thus consumers have less money to spend, while also most of it is going towards repayments on home loans (Spasic, 2015). With inflation levels relatively low, there would be no reason to increase the cash rate, as growth rates are fairly low, as well as causing the housing bubble to pop due to a disruption of a variety of factors. One of these factors include, consumers who won t borrow as much, due to the cost of borrowing increasing and thus a drop in demand, and therefore affecting real GDP due to the drop in real estate value. In contrast, a reduction in the cash rate will further increase housing prices and therefore accelerate the effects of the housing bubble which will inevitably result in a correction

A Plan For Reactive And Proactive Security Planning Policy Implementation Student : Andre Ealy Instructor : Steve Powelson University of Phoenix CMGT / 582 June 29, 2015 Security Planning After assessing the risk invovled with the organization infrastructure. The next step is security planning which involves developing controls and policies with techniques to help with security. • 8. Following Proven Formulas Every day consciously or subconsciously we are following proven formulas without losing our integrity. It is important to copy those who have been successful because of our morality by standing true to our own belief system, and choosing to follow proven formulas every day. Every day I follow proven formulas without compromising my integrity, my belief system, or my unique personality. For example, when I go driving with my driving teacher I am following his instructions based on how he learned, so I am imitating him based on his successfulness. He obtained his driver s license, and I am trying to obtain my license. Consequently every single day you are either consciously or subconsciously following a proven formula. You keep your morals by
  • 9. How Does Andrew Clements Use Of Figurative Language 2) In my found poem I was trying to illuminate the imagery and figurative language found throughout the book, and show how it enhances the reading experience. This passage was describing the sun setting and the night flowers blooming. By condensing the passage into a found poem the figurative language and imagery were highlighted, the not needed words cut out, and the words in general being switched around. In the poem there is one simile that was in the original passage that I think stands out, Darkness poured out, covering trees till they were dim as the bottom of the sea. I chose this scene because in my opinion poems are better when they re full of figurative language, and this one is. 1) Andrew Clements believes that dystopian books
  • 10. Effects Of Rock And Classical Music On The Heart Rate Of... Introduction Knowing how music affects heart rate can allow athletes to choose the correct music to make them more motivated and energized during their training sessions enhancing their performance and improving their competitive results; in addition knowledge of what genre of music could decrease their performance and times is equally important (Roth, 2013). It is important to know if the music has the ability soothe ill patients in hospitals as it may reduce their heart rate to in turn reduce their stress and discomfort levels (Edelson, n.d.). Knowing how music affects heart rate will allow people who suffer from stress, anxiety and/or disorders such as insomnia (abnormal inability to get enough sleep) to slow down their heart rate to relax and go to sleep easier and faster (Barnett, n.d.) The aim of this project is to determine the effects that rock and classical music have on the heart rate of grade 11 girls. Rock music will speed up the heart rate while classical music will slow down the heart rate of grade 11 girls. • 11. My Best Experience 1,826 Days I met my best friends five years ago. A lot can happen in five years. There are 1,826 days in five years. That means that over that span of time, the world presents 1,826 fresh starts, each one containing a new experience. Every experience brings its own array of emotions. You can learn a lot about someone by the way that they react to new experiences. My friends and I have had our fair share of new experiences together. We shared our experiences of our first day in high school together, our first homecoming, having the freedom to drive, our first relationship, our first heartbreak, family issues, even our first periods. Each one was terrifying and exhilarating, and each one presented its own set of challenges. What color dress should we get? Do you think we have enough gas to get there? Should we believe him when he says it will only hurt a little? Was everything else he said just a lie? Why does dad sleep on the couch now? How are we going to make it through the day with these cramps? Every one of these questions we had to answer our selves with nothing but the help of each other. We never found out the right answers, and to this day we still don t know the right answers. We probably never will. Although there probably is no right answer to any of the questions that life presents us, searching for the answer has not only brought us closer together than ever, it has also taught us things about ourselves and each other that we may have never discovered. Since the
  • 12. Examples Of Psychoanalysis In Alien C. Psychoanalysis as a political weapon in Alien i. Male action and female inaction There are two major examples of male activeness and female passiveness in Alien: the chestburster scene and the differences between Ripley and Dallas as the protagonist. In the iconic chestburster scene the crew are seated peacefully as they prepare to return to stasis, however this peace is disturbed when Kane convulses and a chestburster bursts out of him. Only the male characters are active in this scene: Parker and Dallas initially comfort and hold Kane down, Brett holds Kane s legs down, and Ash runs from the other side (farther aways then Ripley and Lambert) to help. Ripley and Lambert initially reach out towards Kane but eventually watch in horror as the alien bursts from him. Dallas, Parker, and Brett were closer to Kane than Ripley so they have more reason for helping; and Ash is the science officer so it makes sense for him to rush towards a medical emergency. Switching one of the male characters with a female character could have expounded on the seriousness of the scene (before the arrival of the chestburster). While subtle, the difference between the actions taken by Dallas and Ripley exemplify the heterosexual differences in labor. Dallas protagonist is constantly in motion: investigating the signal, defending Ripley from the dead facehugger, and hunting the alien in the vents. Ripley s actions as protagonist are less active, especially since she follows Dallas vent plan and

The Current Working Practices Of Ajs Maps A Company Firstly, I will be talking about the current working practices of AJS Maps a company, which provides and creates the maps for the Tourist Industry used as Tourist Information Brochure. Moreover, there are various advantages and disadvantages for the working practises. However, they are mainly negative. Moreover, there is an office for the staffs for new projects to be able to do various tasks. This means that the staffs will have plenty of space to do the tasks in the room. As, well, as colleagues can help one another if they are confused with a particular task they are unaware of. However, the disadvantage is that there are no hardware or software, which will need to be purchased for the staffs to be able to do a task. For example, if they were set a task to create a table in Adobe Dreamweaver and use the Computer. Eventhough, there is unlimited internet the staffs will not be able to do the tasks. Although, some of the staffs may have a computer or laptop not all individuals would have their own laptop to do the tasks. There is internet connection available, which means that the staffs have the opportunity to go on the internet and download devices that they need to use regularly. Summary Of Hemingway s Use Of Diction In A Farewell To Arms On September 29, 1929, The New York Times published a commentary piece on Ernest Hemingway s A Farewell to Arms, describing his writing style as so strikingly his own that it may bear his name, and is likely to henceforward (Love and War in the Pages of Mr. Hemingway). Eighty six years later, readers can experience this for themselves in the first paragraph of Chapter XXI of A Farewell to Arms, Hemingway uses vivid imagery, staccato like syntax, and a detached tone through simple diction to create his own unmistakable style. In the original play, Shakespeare casts the duke as a man, Prospero. In a modern movie version of the play, writer and director Julie Taymor casts the duke as a woman, Prospera powerfully portrayed by the very convincing performance of Helen Mirren. The play, surprisingly, requires only a few very minor line changes to substitute a woman lead for the original male role. While the actual dialogue changes are minor, the impact to the play is substantial as it totally transforms the duke and an audience s prospective of the character. With very few exceptions, having a woman as the Duke of Milan in Shakespeare s The Tempest, makes the duke more... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first examples can be seen in Prospera s ouster and exile starting with how apparently easily Prospera was usurped. It is clear Prospera had the support of her people when she tells Miranda, so dear the love my people bore me (Shakespeare 1.2.141). If the duke had the support of the people and magical arts to manipulate people and events, it seems unlikely a rightful ruler could so easily be usurped, but it becomes more plausible in Taymor s version where the position was only assumed by Prospera upon her husband s death. Given it was not originally her position to begin with and the predominant acceptance of male leaders at that time, it is much more realistic that a woman could be usurped by her brother. Similarly, the fact that Prospera was not killed outright and that she was aided by Gonzalo also becomes more believable with the duke being a woman. To kill an ousted rival would seem of little consequence at the time if that rival were a man, but it takes on a much less noble air if that rival is a woman, and Gonzalo s actions to aid Prospera defying Antonio and the king become more believable as it is not only an act of kindness, but also a chivalrous act. In addition to Prospera s ouster and exile, other examples of where having a feminine duke is more believable can be seen by her actions on the island. One of the first is Prospera s treatment of Caliban. After

News markets would love to earn the respect of their viewers. Providing the truth and the most breaking news this improves their ratings. Once the news media violates that trust people will find another form to get their news. The media has a huge influence on the public opinion. The media and their owners need to be held to high levels of accountability. They should stay in compliance with the laws, codes, and regulations. The legal and ethical issues for the online community are the same as if it were not online. Oftentimes it is easy to violate these online than if gathering information from the textbook or encyclopedia. Sometimes it is easy to miss this and we often use material found on the Internet without permission. There can be legal ramifications from this action. Customers have the opportunity to buy handcrafted bouquets, cards, or just beautiful flowers. It was delegated the name Belle Fleurs because flowers in French is fleurs. Belle means beautiful as well. This idea of a small flower shop came as a sudden inspiration to me. I have always had an admiration towards flowers. I felt that there was room in the florist in industry, which made me realize it would be a good idea to create a flower shop. I have taken a variety of courses that may help me achieve the goal of this business. Business Concepts, Personal Finance, Accounting and now Entrepreneurship show that I am capable of pursuing this business. I have a few objectives for this store that will help us succeed. One of our goals is that we break even the first year. This may seem like an ambitious goal but we are very driven and feel that we are capable of doing it. When the first year is over we would like to minimize the manufacturing cost by 10%. This could help bring the cost of making the product down so that our profit margin will go up. Our company would also like to maximize the consumer satisfaction. We would like to have 85% of our customers be satisfied. The reason that we have picked this number is because not everyone will be happy with the product because consumers may have different reasons that they dislike the product that we can not change. We will try our best to
  • 35. How Crime and Deviance Can Be Seen As Functional for Society Crime and deviance are acts that will elicit dissent from society. They take various forms and involve various concepts and theories. It will be the aim of this paper to explore those that are considered to be functional for society. It was Emile Durkheim who first clearly established the logic behind the functional approach to the study of crime and deviance[1] when he wrote The Rules of Sociological Method and The Division of Labour[2]. In those works, Durkheim argued that crime and deviance is an integral part of all healthy societies . He reasoned that crime and deviance are not only inevitable, but also functional for society and that they will only be considered dysfunctional when they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As societies expanded due to the economic demands posed by the Industrial Revolution, Durkheim said that the moral ties which bounded society together were weakened. Therefore, as society became more complex, a mechanism was engineered to effectively regulate these relationships and the result was the legal system[5]. The codification of moral behaviour, through laws, created guide lines for large scale societies. The foundation of these boundaries is in effect a function of crime and deviance, because without crime and deviance, on what basis would these laws be drafted upon? It follows that when a crime is committed, the legal locomotive will set in to punish the convicted accordingly. Without dwelling into the functions of punishment, the concept of Durkheim s Degrading Ceremonies must be explained. Through agencies like the mass media and the Courts (when conducting public hearings), criminal behaviour would be publicised. The publicising of these acts functions to make the public aware of the tolerance of society, and also reinforces the society s opinion of such criminal behaviour. This promotion of boundary maintenance [6] brings upon the next function of crime and deviance integration. When a crime is so deviant that it far exceeds society s tolerance, it triggers public alarm and outrage[7] that draws the
  • 36. Causes Of Gangs When the word gangs comes to mind, one can immediately picture a big, tall male figure often covered with tattoos, piercings, and maybe even a bald headed guy. One might think that gangs only occur in areas like Los Angeles, Brooklyn, and areas illustrated in movies. Gangs are also becoming more glorified in the media. For example, while listening to a rap song on the radio, some sort of gangreference will come up. Gangscan often target the young and the vulnerable due to many reasons, such as peer pressure and fear. Also, they may target someone who is in need and vulnerable for falling into gang violence and actions. Some of the direct causes for individuals to join gangs are due to the social aspect. Therefore, sometimes young adults or even adults feel pressured to be involved or to continue being involved in gangs because they have the fear of being murdered. Sometimes the fear of being left out pressures them into getting involved in gangs, and they end up leading a violent lifestyle. Since gangs are typically associated with fear, most individuals can fall into this peer pressure to join a gang due to fear of the consequences which can range from violence, like threats, to even their death. Another aspect of feeling accepted can come from family related issues. Young people might feel that they don t receive enough support or attention at home. They may be trying to escape a negative home life, or may be looking for a father figure. Gangs often make promises to give unconditional support and to become the family they never had (Why People Join Gangs). In some cases, individuals who join gangs can be looking for a way out of their home. This can be due to family issues they are experiencing, or also they may not be receiving attention in their home. Gangs are often seen in areas where poor living conditions occur and where social economic statuses are present.Children and teens living in these circumstances can experience lack of attention simply because the family needs to work and meet ends meet. This circumstance, which does not seem so malicious, can leave the

Throughout of the ages, the noble spirited and peace loving people have tried to bring an end to the hostility and conflicts among human beings. The adoption of Geneva Conventions in 1949 was seen as a significant break though in this regard and it was hoped that human sufferings resulting from armed conflicts will be minimized to a considerable extent if not eliminated completely. Even after the passage of about eight decades of the adoption of Geneva Conventions, this dream is still far from realization. During all these years we saw different nations interpreting and using the rules of Geneva Conventions in different ways suiting their interest. This differing practice on the part of different nations did a lot of harm to the common cause of protecting the life and well being of human beings. A major divergence from Geneva Convention rules has been seen post 9/11. The 9/11 incidents and subsequent war on terror gave rise to a completely new form of armed conflict which resulted in new legal challenges. As this war on terror is a non traditional war which was almost unfamiliar by the times when Geneva Conventions were framed so, most of the rules of Geneva Conventions were focused on international armed conflicts. Traditionally, we witnessed armed conflicts in which states stood against other states but in recent decades, especially after the dawn of 21st century, these armed conflicts have become

(2) Sales growth generated by cross divisional sales of multiple Clariant lines to key, high potential customers. High margin items on the other hand may requires a higher demand on product knowledge. Therefor, it is a better opportunity to increase higher margin sales with creative sales techniques. 2. Question two; how did entire cities and islands become pirate hideouts? During the early Colonial era, the Spanish reigned supreme in the Caribbean. They were rapidly colonizing the islands of the Caribbean and gaining wealth with every step. These cities were afraid of being overthrown by the Spanish and wanted protection from these invaders. One of the first to offer up their ports was Port Royal, Jamaica. . Port Royal became one of the most infamous pirate hideouts of all time and was considered the wickedest city on Earth . It all started in the mid 1600s when Jamaica s governors decided to allow all pirates and privateers, who were not Spanish, to stay in return for protection from the Spanish. And of course, they accepted. Soon after the city was filled with British and French privateers, including the famous Sir Henry Morgan who used Port Royal as a sort of home base for his raids on Spanish strongholds such as Portobello, Caratenga, and Panama City. By the 1660s, Port Royal was filled with every disreputable establishment known to mankind. But by 1720, Jamaica had to cut relations with the pirates due to raids on every ship that came into port. Port Royal then became known for pirate hangings. Other cities and islands like New Providence, Bahamas, have similar stories to tell. But one other island has a different story. I liked his defense of God when Edward blamed Him for all the evil in the world. I also like how he explained the freedom that God has chosen to give each of us, and that that very freedom, which was given so that true love could exist, must also bear with it the possibility of evil. Gregory said in one of his responses If we have the potential to oppress or slay millions, it s because we also have the potential to liberate and love millions. I thought Gregory did an exceptional job of explaining salvation to his father as well. He gave great evidence that the Bible was, in fact, true and reliable. I, personally, was very pleased with the apologetic effort of Dr. Boyd. There were just a couple of things that, I did not necessarily disagree with, but that definitely challenged my way of thinking. The first is about God s omniscience. In Terry Bowland s Romans class, while discussing Calvinism, we went over this a little bit. My understanding of what Dr. Bowland believes (I am sure he would explain it better) is that God does know the future. He knows everything. Before I was born He knew the choices I would be making today. He did not predestine me to make these decisions, but because he is Almighty God, He simply knows the choices that I will make. That all made sense to me until I

This is a clear indication of the US s attitude towards energy use, which is that we take it for granted. When I went to Ukraine, I remember how limited energyuse was. I was only around 10 or 11 and I was shocked that nobody turned their porch lights on at night and I was even more so shocked to find out that most people didn t even have a porch light. I understand that the porch light here in America is used as a deterrent for robberies, people feel safer if their lights are on. Another thing is how people drive for fun, I ve heard friends of mine just aimlessly driving around because they are bored and have nothing to do and even that was a surprise for me. We need to somehow create a more efficient way of consuming energy. Sometimes using less energy may not be the answer to using less, for example our houses need to be heated but many aren t well built and insulated. When my family and I moved into our current house about 15 years ago, we noticed that the insulation had not been changed for about 60 years and my father decided to reinsulate the house. The next winter after re insulation, our energy use was almost a quarter of what we used last winter. This is indeed an extreme example, due to the poor construction of our house, and I believe that not every house is made that way, but it

Intel s studies have shown that raising employees awareness of how much power their equipment is consuming, and getting them involved in reducing that amount, is critical to success in reducing energy use in the office environment. We have taken an example of the Intel Company: Intel conducted a small PoC that explored how they could encourage behavior modification by showing employees that small things, such as using standby mode on their laptops or turning off a printer when it s not being used, can add up to big savings. During this PoC, they first established a baseline of energy consumption through real time metering of energy use in 12 cubicles. In one group, they focused solely on awareness and education. Every two to three days, Intel provided this group with information on how much energy they were using, and how much it cost. They did not provide any other information or requests to change behavior to the members of this group. For the second group they installed a third party software agent that deployed and enforced power management profiles. The profiles were set up to put the monitor into standby after ten minutes of idle time, and to put the PC into standby after 30 minutes of idle time. After two additional weeks of real time metering, Intel examined the energy use of the two groups.

A Comparison Of Memento And Memento Mori Unlike other pairs of literary work and their adaptations that the movie version is published after the literary work, Memento and Memento Mori are created in the inverse order. The main plot of the two stories is very similar: a man having no short term memory finding and killing the murder of his wife. They are inspired by the same idea, anterograde amnesia. For creators, the factors they need to look at when presenting a story largely depend on the medium of story telling. The qualities of different mediums and the characteristics of the audiences of that medium determine many preferences of creators when designing the plotand the characters. Of course, those preferences are not rigid rules, but we can easily find that there are many common traits among the literary products or movie products of the same type. This is also why some literary works and movies are criticized to be formulaic. In MementoMori , the author deleted some elements that are presented in the movie to make the story more suitable to be presented in the text. The first thing deleted from the movie is a large proportion of the plot. In Memento , the director presented a relatively complete story line, and explained how the whole event happens in detail. In this paper we propose novel Security Metrics to compute the severity and impact of a Denial of Service (DoS) attack, which helps to accurately and precisely estimate the monetary loss incurred by an organization. These metrics are quantitative in nature and map Quality of Service (QoS) requirements into measurable and acceptable threshold parameters. The test results of the application of these metrics using Network Simulator are presented. The work for implementation of these metrics in Network Management Systems (NMS) and Visualization tools is in progress. Key Words: Security Metrics, Denial of Service, Network Attack 1.INTRODUCTION Metrics are scales of measurement used for improvement and scientific decision making. Security metrics are useful for quantitatively measuring an organization s security level or of security vulnerabilities of an entity. One of the pieces defining characteristics, what makes it such a marvel, is how the physique is anatomically perfect. This speaks of a highly developed culture, with an intricate understanding of anatomy and physiology. But, also of a culture that privileges physical strength and beauty. The Greeks of the time were either artists or warriors, or often both, so strength and beauty were central in their world. Laocoon and His Sons is a much more naturalistic piece than earlier Greek works; in which the figures were often idolized; lacking luster, life, emotion, humanity. Cleobis and Biton, a set of sculptures from the Archaic Period, exemplify this quite well; posing, rigid, golem like figures; lacking the humanity they are supposed to represent. The Hellenistic baroque style of Laocoon and His Sons gives us a much more true to life representation in comparison to earlier works. This work has inspired artists and regular humans alike down through the centuries, one of whom it is particularly well known to have influenced greatly was Michelangelo; as can be seen in some of his pieces; e.g: The rebellious Slave.
