The Tragedy Of The Commons
The Tragedy of the Commons American Earth: Environmental Writing Since Thoreau is a diverse
yet interconnected collection of essays by renowned environmentalist authors who have been
influential in literature, religion, science, and politics. Each piece has a specific purpose and role
that it plays in conveying ideas and themes. Many authors share their personal opinions on issues
such as the world s declining forests, the extinction of species, such as birds in Gene Stratton
Porter s The Last Passenger Pigeon (192), and their intimate experiences with nature, such as Julia
Butterfly Hill s The legacy of Luna (907). However, the most influential essay in this book is The
Tragedy of the Commonsby Garrett Hardin (438). A multitude of pieces in this book tie into the
tragedy of the commons and support its ideas in one way or another.
In his essay Hardin discusses how the rapid decline of the world s common places, such as natural
animal pastures, are the result of rapid, uncontrolled human population growth. Hardin suggests that
environmental problems such as deforestation, crowding out of native species, loss of resources,
pollution, poor job economy, etc., are the result of the loss of common spaces. He indicated that
common spaces used to be plentiful enough for every person to have an abundant share, but that
was when the human population was smaller than the current population of 7 billion people. Hardin
s powerful essay proposes many solutions and methods

The Sexualization Of Women In Game Of Thrones
Politics of Sex, Power, and Magic How does the sexualization of Melisandre effect how the
characters and audience view her character and intentions? In the TV show Game of Thrones,
adapted from the novels from George R.R. Martin, we are introduced to an ambitious witch
named Melisandre, also known as the red witch. In the show, seven noble houses are fighting to
gain control of the entire kingdom after the King dies. Melisandre is trying to have Stannis
Baratheon be king, and she is using her god The Lord of Light to guide her in bringing him to the
iron throne after having a vision of him being the chosen king. In the scene, Melisandre is being
rowed to a cave so she can give birth after seducing a noble lord. Throughout TV series Melisandre

In the chapter Male Gaze , she talks about how Game of Thrones and other media outlets
objectify women to gain more male audiences. Frankie claims that, the Game of Thrones sex
scenes are biased towards men and do not appear designed to appeal to women. (Frankle 16) In
The Night Lands episode that takes place two episodes before The Gardens Bones aired, it
showed Melisandre seducing Lord Stannis with the promise that she will birth him a son.
Before Melisandre and Stannis have sex, she tells him that she can provide him a son while his
current wife was sickly and brought nothing but stillborns and death. This shows that the women
are just objects used for having children and without it they were worthless (unless they were
prostitutes). Melisandre undid her robe and was completely naked under it and he roughly rips it
off and lightly tosses her on the desk filled with battle plans and strategies. This symbolized him
dominating her and being in control of the situation, he is worried about the war with his brother
but he knows that he can still dominate and control (so he thinks) Melisandre. This appeals to the
male audiences, because they like to be in control and dominate because it shows how masculine
and macho they are. In the show, there is a disproportionate amount of female nudity vs male
nudity, which conveys the message that women are nothing more than sex objects and eye candy
that contributes nothing unless they are having sex or doing lewd things to get men s attention.
This especially shows when Melisandre is completely naked and spread out in front of the camera
while Stannis is completely covered up only having the fly of his pants undone so the audience
can t see his private areas. This is just one of several times that Frankle has pointed out

Greed in Candide
In Voltaire s novella Candide, the main character s newly found wealth from an idealized Eldorado
is exploited by the world s fixation of greed that ultimately effects himself and others as he learns
that money cannot buy happiness. Candide is brought up amongst greed, reared in a castle in a
small corner of the world in Westphalia with the privileges of being the son of a baron s sister, his
life is ultimately influenced by this example of money and power. His journey into the world, after
his expulsion, begins with the notion that everything is for the best from his philosopher Pangloss
that every cause has a reaction (Voltaire2). It isn t until he is out of Europe traveling with his

Eldorado s jewels create ambitious greed in Candide, overshadowing his main concern of
surviving for his Cunegonde. Candide truly believes in the philosophy that indeed everything is
for the best and Eldorado is the ideal place for this notion to flourish but he leaves this beautiful
dream out of spite because he cannot function in a society that cannot be bought (Silver 2). The
very true world he despises is actually the only place he has succeeded.
After leaving Eldorado with numerous sheep packed with goods and fifty loaded with gold,
jewels, and diamonds they are only left with two after a hundred days march that strained the
convoy to its limits of starvation (Voltaire 39). They reach a Dutch town where they learn that
Miss Cunegonde is a mistress to the governor in Buenos Aires and set out to find a merchant ship
to set sail. The Spanish merchant Candide and Cacambo hire to transport them tells them they
must not return for fear of being hanged and instead sends Cacambo with several millions to
purchase her away. The men were to rendezvous in Italy once Candide secured a second vessel to
take him. He finally procures a Dutch ship captained by a Mr. Vanderdendur who offers to take
Candide to Italy for ten thousand piasters , notices the ease at which he agrees and soon increases
the fee to twenty then thirty thousand piasters (Voltaire 41). He soon figures out that the sheep

The Most Famous Prison Of The United States
Alcatraz was one of the most famous prison in the Unites States, located in the Californian San
Francisco Bay. The prison was renowned for being inescapable, and the m0ost high security
prison of the time. This probably was due to it s location, which was on Alcatraz island, located
around a mile away from shore, surrounded by the supposedly shark infested, strong currents, ice
cold water of the bay. Today, the prison
is only used as a tourist attraction, a mere shadow of what it
once was. (Deconstructing History: Alcatraz, History, www.history.com, A E television network,

In Alcatraz, most Alcatraz guards and their families lived on the island. The wives, children, and
any other family members of the guards who lived on the island would take a ferry or boat to
the port of San Francisco when they needed to go to school, work, or just to go into town. Guests
of children and other residents were allowed to visit the families of the island, but with inmates,
they were only allowed one visit per month, each visit had to be approved directly by the warden
of Alcatraz. In this visit, physical contact between the inmate and visitor was prohibited, as well as
any discussion of current events. The conversations were held via an intercom system, and an
officer would usually be monitoring the conversation, though, sometimes the officer would fail on
this task. If there was any sort of inappropriate act or breaking of rules during these visits, the
inmate would lose the privilege of monthly visits, or possibly be put under some other form of
punishment.
I managed to get ahold of one of the ex residence of Alcatraz. Ernest Lageson was the son of one
of the many guards of Alcatraz, and he lived on the island for around two years when he was 10

Single Sex Schools
Are Single Sex Schools the Right Choice? In August of 2015 Katie Hallik was doubting being in
school. She asked her parents if she could be homeschooled but both of her parents worked and
they didn t have time. For the next few days she was trying so hard to get her parents to budge
but nothing worked. She had finally found out about single sex schools. As soon as I read a little
bit about a single sex school, I called my parents states Hallik. She once felt like she had no other
option, but a single sex school made the rest of her school life. We need single sex schools. Kids
are feeling more comfortable without the other sex Studies show that girls and boys are
becoming stronger in the areas they were struggling in because they are more comfortable being
able to raise their hand and try. Girls typically struggle in math and science so the separation is
helping with those struggles. One of the girls has to answer even if they don t know the answer,
so they are more for trial and error kind of method. Nearly three quarters of kids also expressed a
greater desire to learn and participate in discussions in a single sex classroom (Should Girls and
Boys be Taught Separately, 2016) Boys typically struggle in the arts, but with girls not being there,
they don t have to act so manly. Boys and girls react differently to ways being taught. Boys react to
sports and more active and hands on ways of teaching. Girls are more fond of just sitting and

Economic Effects of the Foreign Exchange Rate
INTRODUCTION
This paper tackles the effects of the foreign exchange rate as a whole and how it affects the
country and at the same time how it gets affected. This paper enumerates the advantages and
disadvantages of having a strong Peso. The paper also discusses what factors affect the
strengthening and weakening of the Philippine Peso. This paper also includes an in depth analysis
of how the foreign exchange could affect and gets affected by the economy, the society and politics.
OVERVIEW

P53.59 per dollar. This was caused by the Higher risk aversion in the global markets and the
possible increase of the Federal Reserve Bank s interest rate. Conversely, the peso appreciated
by 1.66% reaching to a level of P52.31 per dollar on June and closed at P51.97 per dollar on July

Using Compact And High Performance Wireless Communication...
Chapter 1
Introduction
The patch antenna plays a very important role in today s world of wireless communication systems
.There is always a large demand for high performance ,small size and low cost wireless
communication systems .in order to get these requirements ,planar patch antenna is preferred
because of their various advantages such as light weight ,low volume ,low cost and ease for
fabrication .although the microstrip patch antenna has various advantages it has various
disadvantages which are low gain ,narrow bandwidth and low efficiency .These disadvantages can
be overcome by constructing many patch antennas in array configuration. Recently there has been
increasing demand in the use of DGSs for performance enhancement of microstrip patch antennas
and planar array antennas .there are basically two types of structures which are used for the design
of compact and high performance wireless communication systems named as defected ground
structures (DGS) and electromagnetic band gap structures (EBG) which is also known as photonic
band gap structure(PBG). These structures have been used to obtain the functions such as unwanted
frequency rejection and circuit size reduction. Recently defected ground structures have been
introduced; DGSs are realized by simply etching off simple shape (called as defect) from the ground
plane .Depending upon the shape and the dimensions of the defects ,the current distribution in the
ground plane is disturbed and resulting in a controlled

Replication Of The Viral Dsdna
LYTIC INFECTION
Once the viral dsDNA has entered the nucleus, if it circularizes itself and becomes an episome
within the nucleus, then the virus has entered a lytic life cycle. EBV replication takes place in
specialized sites within the host nucleus, referred to as replication compartments8. It is believed
that EBV replicates following the rolling circle replication model1. Figure 3 demonstrates how
RCR works: after being cut with an endonuclease one strand is replicated continuously and the
other is replicated discontinuously, putting together segments called linear concatamers and they
code for circular DNA. Once EBV replication has begun the three stages of transcription begin to
follow.
EBV, along with some other viruses, transcribe their DNA in a very regulated and temporal
fashion. These stages, or sets of genes, are called the immediate early (IE) genes, early (E) genes,
and late (L) genes. The tegument protein VP16 helps initiate the transcription of the IE genes,
which code for DNA binding proteins that will be useful for the remaining steps of
transcription1. E genes codes for proteins necessary for vDNA replication as well as other helpful
proteins for transcription and L genes code for structural proteins that aren t needed until after viral
replication has started1. As IE and E genes are replicated and transcribed they are exported to the
cell cytoplasm for translation and the appropriate proteins are brought back into the nucleus to aid
in transcription or

If someone doesn t have enough electrolytes in their system then they can t function. Electrolytes
are important because they are what certain cells such as nerve, heart, and muscle use to sustain
voltages across their cell membranes. They are also what cells use to carry electrical impulses, as
in nerve impulses and muscle contractions, across themselves and to other cells. Kidneys work to
keep the electrolyte concentration in blood constant in spite of changes in the body. Again, when
exercising, the body loses most electrolytes in the sweat; sports drinks which contain sodium
chloride or potassium chloride are consumed after the workout to provide the body with the
energy it just lost. They also contain added sugar and flavorings to the drinks to give extra energy
and to make the drink taste better. People also drink other drinks after a workout because they feel
that it obtains the energy more effectively.
Sports drinks are used to receive energy while doing an active, or athletic, event. There are three
popular types of sports drinks: isotonic (average athlete), hypotonic (low perspiration athletes;
jockeys and gymnasts), and hypertonic (long distance runners that need the extra carbohydrates
and electrolytes). Isotonic sports drinks quickly replace fluids lost by sweating and supply a boost
of carbohydrates. Hypotonic sports drinks quickly replace fluid lost. Hypertonic sports drinks
supplement daily carbohydrate

Lockouts refer to when owners or management closes their doors to their employees. A strike is
when employees refuse to work. In most cases labor unions are born out of unfair working

these individual have earned through the years of playing professional sports you would have a

Chapter S Corporations Advantages * Limited Liability to the shareholders (owners) personal
assets. * Investors are more likely to invest in this type of entity due to its protection, and easy
acquisition of the company stocks. * Pass through entity: This simply means that in most
circumstances all income pass to the shareholders to be reported under their personal income tax
returns; therefore, profits are being taxed once vs. a C corporation where it is first taxed as the
corporate level, and then in the shareholders personal return as dividends. Tax as dividends are
tax max at a fifteen percent rate (15%) but it is still a double taxation. Most businesses have
losses at the beginning of their operations. Having this type of entity can save in personal income

years, and or forward for twenty years if not fully used.
Disadvantages * Very complex to keep in compliance with federal and local government. * Active

required. * Additional reporting in business records, in order to keep track of

Abstract: Agriculture uses 85% of available freshwater resources worldwide and this percentage
will continue to be dominant in water consumption because of population growth and increased
food demand. In India agriculture, primarily depends on the monsoon, which is not a sufficient
source of water. So irrigation is employed in the agriculture area. This paper targets to offer a
cloud based drip irrigation system to aid the farmers. The proposed system uses a
microcontroller, sensors, and a cloud server to provide real time network with field over a Wi Fi
network. The proposed system aims to conserve water up to a large extent by providing automatic
and manual modes of irrigation. The system can be monitored by the user on an android application.

The forecastle was like an angry hive of bees aroused by some intruder. No man less than a giant
could have accomplished what Wolf Larsen did next. Step by step, by the might of his arms, the
whole pack of men striving to drag him back and down, he drew his body up from the floor until
he stood upright. The captain then proceeded to make his way up the ladder thus freeing him
from this group of murderous tyrants. The whole crew of the Ghost hated Wolf with a great
passion, but no one could do anything because his strength and fighting ability were unmatched.
The second aspect of Wolf Larsen that makes him so great is his mind. Larsen was born and

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy Theory
Among the three counseling theory for this week study, I identified with Solution Focused Brief
therapy simply because its method is focused on expand the best parts of a client s life rather
than the number of sessions (Henderson Thompson, 2011). Another focus of Solution Focused
brief therapy is seeking solutions for clients problems rather than search for explanations about
his or her problems or how the problem was developed (Henderson Thompson, 2011). In SFBT
people s problem result from behavior based on their view of the world (Henderson Thompson,
2011, p. 317). The solution process does not have to start with a perfect solution for the client s
problem, rather the therapist can provide the client with a skeleton key . It is a term, created by
Steve de Shazer, the leading figure of SFT, that refers to interventions that work for a variety of
problems that fit sufficiently well so that a solution can progress (Goldenberg Goldenberg, 2013)....

Analysis Of Eurydice By Sarah Ruhl
Sarah Ruhl s play, Eurydice, is a devastating story battling love, grief, life, and death. Although it
is set during the 1950 s, the play manages to encompass the ancient Greek myth of Eurydice and
Orpheus. The three most evident themes of this play are recurring death, fleeting happiness, and
the power of love. The main conflict in this play is ultimately about the painful choice that comes
with death; this is often caused by the King of the Underworld. One of the most impressive parts
of this play is the ability to change the way the play is perceived through design.
When I envision this play in my head and through my concept, I view the characters in the living
world to have bright normal costumes. For Example, I can see Eurydice in sundresses and Orpheus
in spring colored button up shirts and pants. This would represent the love and happiness they
have for each other. On the other hand, when I think about costumes in the underworld, I believe
they would need to be a little bit darker and quirky to represent the hard choices and confusion
that death has pushed upon them. I think Eurydice s father should be wearing a dark suit with a
crazy tie and no shoes. When both Eurydice and Orpheus arrive in the underworld their clothes
should become darker and more sullen. I perceive the Stones as being deceased people from
different eras that have completely forgotten who they were, and have been brainwashed by
being dipped in the river and by the King of the Underworld. To represent this, their outfits need
to look extremely dull and dirty; they should be everyday clothes from their different time
periods. All three of their costumes should be torn and drained of all color. The Lord of the
Underworld needs to have multiple different costumes. In the world of the living, he needs to be
the darkest dressed; he should wear a black suit and tie. In the underworld, I envision him wearing
more of a boyish outfit, such as shorts, suspenders, and crazy socks. When he becomes a man and
grows to a superhuman high in the end, I would have him wear tall stilts under long dress pants
and wear a suit top.
The most creative part of this play is the set for both the living world and the underworld. As a

Tennis Personal Statement
Social relationships, our most fundamental life challenge that determines our success in life, is not
a relatively easy conquest for most people. When people encounter deeply problematic social
issues within their journey throughout life, adversity and vexed responses later strain and tax one s
focus on life. While I may not have been blessed with the natural ability to establish social
connections with others, my experience of cultivating a whole new persona through sports has
propelled me into the daring, confident personwho is able to culminate new friends in all unfamiliar

While my talent for tennis allowed me to win many games, there was another valuable
accomplishment that I m very grateful to have assimilated and experienced: improved social

establish a unique bond with my peers. In retrospect, the action of joining tennis has been a very
profitable decision on my part, from social networking to character development, which
significantly improved my perspective on life. Although everyone may have a different style of
playing tennis, we retain our original development of personal values. Thus, grasping the
fundamental understanding of others has helped me to incorporate moral and ethical values. Not
only to my peers, but everyone around me. Slowly, I realized I loved tennis for it allowed me to

Prevalence of Nosocomial Infection (NI)
Nosocomial infections (NI) are acquired in hospitals and other healthcare facility. It is suspected, if
the patient had another infection other than the infection, he/she was admitted for; and had shown
no signs of active or incubating symptoms (Graham, 2016) of present infection. NI is said to occur,
if the Infection occurred 48 hours after hospital admission, 3 days after discharge, or 30 days after
an operation or surgery procedure. Nowadays, NI is labelled the leading cause of death in
hospitals. As it continue to raise headlines as the main cause of most deaths occurring in the

In some cases, patients develop infections due to poor conditions at a hospital and healthcare
facility, or due to hospital staff not following proper standard procedures, such as improper hand
washing before and after patient care, lack of proper clinical wound cleaning and perineal care.
Proper sanitation and other proper healthcare hygiene procedures omitted during patient care. Some
patients also acquire NI by interacting with other patients , which may result from sharing of
personal belongings, and body contact. Others may encounter bacteria, fungi, parasites, or viruses
in their hospital environment (Graham, 2016). A research on Human metapneumovirus (hMPV)
recently discovered virus and a member of the subfamily Pneumovirinae, as the major cause of
hospitalization of infants suffering from respiratory tract infection (French et al., 2016). It can
manifest as flu like symptoms, and later dispose into shortness of breath with nasal congestions. It s
likely to be transmitted via direct contact and droplet.
Symptoms of NI
Symptoms of NI vary by type. They include inflammation, discharge, fever, and abscesses. Patients
may experience pain and irritation at the infection site, and many experience visible symptoms.
Many forms of NI can be diagnosed through sight alone. Pus, inflammation, and rashes may all be
indications of infection. Blood and urine culture tests (Diekema et al., 2003) can be used to

Alcoholism Is A Serious Issue
Alcoholism is a chronic and often progressive disease that includes problems controlling your
drinking, being preoccupied with alcohol, continuing to use alcohol even when it causes problems,
having to drink more to get the same effect (physical dependence), or having withdrawal symptoms
when you rapidly decrease or stop drinking. (Clinic, 2014)
Alcoholism is a very serious issues and very hard to break. One of society biggest issue is
alcoholism. It can cause many problems in a person s life without the person even knowing.
Drinking alcohol is like taking a drug. It is a form of drug abuse, and drug addiction. This is a

Alcoholism also devastates families and loved ones of the addicted individual. Of the
approximate 18 million alcoholics in the United States, each one adversely affects at least four
other people. Families of alcoholics suffer the same symptoms of the disease as the alcoholic
(Kronenwetter, 68). Excessive use of alcohol claims at least 100,000 lives each year, either
through accidents or health problems. This is 25 times more loss of life than all illegal drugs
combined (Bender, 168). Alcoholism and related problems cost taxpayers an overwhelming $85.8
billion in mortality and reduced productivity (Sora, 193). However, alcohol is still looked upon as a
non threatening dilemma. (Webmaster, 2009)
Drinking only a daily base can lead to effects such as: blackouts, where you can t remember what
happened, and insomnia, where you can t fall asleep. While you are drinking you will be less alert,
less aware of your surroundings, lose your muscular coordination, have difficulty walking, have
blurred vision, and have slow reaction times. This can lead to accidents, injuries, and death. Also
after drinking you may get a hangover the next morning which will include effects like headaches,
nausea, thirst, heartburn, dizziness, and fatigue. If you are not careful with the amount of alcohol
that you drink you can get some bad side effects.

The Marketing Program Model Incorporates Different Aspects...
The marketing program model incorporates many aspects of a product in order to promote sales of
the product. A marketing program looks at four elements that are essential to marketing: the
product, the price of the product, the distribution of the product, and the promotion of a product
(Ferrell and Hartline, 2005, p. 149). In order for Gillette to compete with online competitors, all
four of these elements need to be addressed in a way that will benefit the company and market the
product effectively. Gillette is a well known brand name that has created very popular products
throughout the years. The product aspect of the marketingprogram is a strength that Gillette has
created in order to start the online subscription model. A product needs to be appealing to
customers as well as meet the needs and wants of the customers and Gillette s razors and blades
have been at the top of the sales for many years. The razors and blades are at the mature stage of
development, but customers still need to product to carry out grooming needs. Also, by Gillette
developing an online market, the company is essentially marketing a convenience product that is
easy to obtain. Therefore, Gillette does not need to try to create a razor with five or six blades just
to be above the Schick Quattro, they need to focus their attention on marketing the already
appealing and satisfying products they have produced. The marketing team may also offer a trial
period for three months. This would allow

Symptoms And Treatment Of Trypanosoma Brucei
Trypanosoma brucei is a member of the Trypanosomatidae family, is protozoan of order
Kinetoplastida. They cause African trypanosomiasis or sleeping sickness as it is most commonly
known, a parasitic disease it causes an infection in the brain and the meninges (Stanghellini
Josenando 2001). Trypanosoma brucei have 3 different sub species, these being T. brucei
gambiense which causes chronic trypanosomiasis which has a slow onset in humans, T. brucei
rhodesiense which causes acute trypanosomiasis with a fast onset. With the last sub species being
T. brucei brucei which causes animal African Trypanosomiasis. It is a neglected tropical disease and
is found primarily in the continent of Africa with up to 60 million people affected in 35 African
countries. Failure to treat this is fatal (Ekwanzala et al. 1996), however there are currently four
drugs on the market for the treatment, these being pentamidine, melarsoprol, eflornithine and
suramin (WГ©ry 1994).
There are 2 forms of Trypanosoma brucei, these being bloodstream form and the procyclic form
(Colasante et al. 2006). The bloodstream form should be eradicated by the adaptive immune
response, but this is prevented by the variable surface glycoproteins(Overath et al. 1994). These
are adaptable as they form a new unique set of proteins every 1/100 cell divisions to evade the
surface protein specific response. Trypomastigotes can multiply in the bloodstream as the slender
form where once the population is high enough,

Traditional Model Of Primary Health Care Essay
Traditional model of primary health care that involves physician centered approaches are often
inadequate for addressing the complex health needs that residents of low income neighborhoods
encounter (Whelan et al., 2010). Therefore, if the Health Bus provides services that are culturally
appropriate and addresses the needs of clients, it is anticipated that participants would be satisfied
with the services and would use the HealthBus services. Evaluation may show that the Health Bus
team is addressing other social determinants of health such as reducing social isolation among the
clients. As seen in the study by Whelan that indicated that clients felt more socially inclusive as a
result of chatting with staff and being treated with respect and dignity at the Health Bus in Toronto
(Whelan et al., 2010).
On the other hand, the evaluation may indicate that the Health Bus is not meeting the needs of
residents in the neighborhood. This may be largely due to the high morbidity and mortality rates
from a number of health conditions present in Saskatoon low income neighborhoods which the
Health Bus services do not address. Therefore, it may be worthwhile to scale up the Health Bus
services to provide a multidisciplinary health service for people living in Saskatoon s core
neighborhoods by merging existing services with other equally important health services on the
Health Bus such as mental health care. As seen in Greece where Mobile health units was used to

The Evolution Of Flightless Birds
Evolution occurs when an animal species develops new bodily structures and functions in order to
adapt to their new environment. These developments are seen as positive adaptations that enhances
survival. However, some animal species have lost these new developments. Based on the
geographic location and climate, some evolutionary developments that are no longer needed are
lost due to the fact that the new bodily structure itself does not enhance the chance of survival in a
particular environment (Kirchman 2009; Vieites, et al. 2009). In most cases these lost
developments are passed down through future generations and are never redeveloped. However,
more information is needed to decide whether or not the loss of these evolutionary developments
was due to natural selection or by random mutation over years (Wilkens and Strecker 2003). In this
paper, I will examine three studies from a diversity of taxa, which illustrate the history of flightless
birds, how climate has influenced the evolutionof salamanders and how life lived in darkness has
influenced the blindness in cave fish. Together these studies depict how these evolutionary abilities
are lost and their affects on the animal species.
Krichman (2009) examined the ancestry of flightless birds (Gallirallus philippenesis) through the
usage of genetic testing that were sampled throughout a range of ancestral species. This was to test
a model of speciation where flightless birds were thought to have evolved from flying birds

Summary Of A Court Of Thorns And Roses
In 1943, Abraham Maslow developed the psychological theory named the hierarchy of needs,
which describes motivational patterns that humans advance through. The first tier consists of
physiological needs such as food, warmth, and rest. After one accomplishes these, they move
onto the second tier full of safety needs such as security and shelter. Then the third tier makes up
belonging needs like friends and intimate relationships. The fourth tier consists of esteem needs
and feelings of accomplishment. Self actualization makes up the fifth and final tier, by
achieving one s full potential. A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas displays Maslow s
Hierarchy of needs by the main character Feyre, starting in the bottom tier, slowly moving her
way up to the second and third tier, falling back into the bottom tier, and eventually ending in the
third tier. When the books first begins, Feyre, the protagonist, is the daughter of a merchant who
lost all his wealth. She lives with her father and two older sisters in a one bedroom shack, that
does nothing to keep the cold out. Feyre provides all of the food for the family by hunting in the
woods and selling the skins of animals for whatever money she can get. Feyre states that We d
finished our last loaf of bread yesterday, and the remainder of our dried meat the day before (Maas
2). This shows the severity of the situation, and she even continues further by saying, We wouldn t

12 Essential Characteristics of an Entrepreneur
An entrepreneur is a businessperson who not only conceives and organizes ventures but also
frequently takes risks in doing so. Not all independent business people are true entrepreneurs, and
not all entrepreneurs are created equal. Different degrees or levels of entrepreneurial intensity and
drive depend upon how much independence one exhibits, the level of leadership and innovation
they demonstrate, how much responsibility they shoulder, and how creative they become in

While it may seem counterintuitive to strike out in a different direction and into unfamiliar
territory, that trajectory puts one into a position of learning, being open minded, and relying upon
others for help. Those ingredients contribute to a recipe for entrepreneurial success because they
force one to evaluate the entire business system from a new and fresh perspective. And they set
the stage for working on the business without having to actually be physically in the business on a
day to day basis. That premise of designing a business that works for its owner rather than the
owner working for it all the time is vital for becoming a real entrepreneur versus becoming simply
the most important employee of one s own selfemployed venture. Those who understand that fact
can rise to the next level of entrepreneurship. Level Two: The Managerial Perspective Those with
a managerial outlook are often in a great position to succeed as entrepreneurs, expect for two big
misconceptions that lead to massive problems. Many managers believe that if a business is not
working, the solution lies in hiring more employees. They throw extra bodies at the problem, but
this only aggravates the situation because it fails to address the underlying root cause of the

Leadership Styles and Their Effect on CEOs
Steve Jobs was an entrepreneur, co founder, chairman, and CEO of Apple Inc. As the CEO of the
company, Jobs covered the development of the iMac, iPod, iPhone, and iPad, and on the services
side the company s Apple Retail Stores, iTunes store, and the App store. The success of these
products under Jobs provided stable years of financial return, and propelled Apple to become the
world s most valuable publically traded company. The reinvigoration of the company is regarded by
commentators as one of the greatest turnarounds in business history (Gallo, 2011).
Jobs was a one in a billion innovator with a bulldog mentality. He created a vision and relentlessly
drove it into completion. Jobs was a demanding perfectionist who always aspired to position his
business and products at the forefront of the technology industry by understanding and setting
trends with innovation and style. His reputation was built on being a brutal force and often
destroyed staff for their bozo ideas and typically shrugged off his associates suggestions in favor of
his own gut instinct. Moreover, he only wanted what he called A players . Meaning that they had to

Essay on The Heroic Slave of Amistad
In 1997 a movie called Amistad depicted the true story of a group of Africans that were taken
from their families and forced into slavery. Although the movie was heavily criticized for it s
inaccurate tale of the terrible ordeal, it gave the story world renowned attention. The real story
had more drama and tearjerker parts then the movie did. If the movie ever gets remade,
hopefully this time it follows the facts exactly. A man named Sengbe Pieh, commonly known in
the United States as Jose Cinque, was born around 1813 in Mende Country. He was rumored to be
the son of a local chief and lived his days as a farmer working the fields. He was a devoted husband
with two sons and a daughter. One day he woke up, kissed his wife and kids... Show more content

The trip to Puerto Principe was a harsh one for the slaves. They were whipped and malnourished
with the believe they would be eaten once they got their. One hungry, windy, miserable night
Pieh loosened one of the spikes and freed himself with it. He freed the other slaves in the lower
deck with him and charged to the upper deck. The slaves killed Ferrer, the captain and Celestino
the cook for killing one of the slaves in the attack. Ruiz and Montez were spared, while the two
white seaman escaped off a small boat. Montez having some experience as a sailor, was forced
to take the slaves to Africa. On this long voyage the slaves had mange to learn how to speak
Mende. Pieh rationed the food to everybody except for the children, who got a full ration. Pieh
caring only about everybody else except for himself, gave himself the smallest ration out of
everyone. In the meantime Montez was trying to steer the schooner towards Cuba. Unfortunately,
that plan didn t work and the schooner ended up in the northeast coastline of The United States.
All over the coastline there were sighting of the mysterious looking boat in the newspapers. The
newspapers portrayed them as bloodthirsty savages that killed the crew and began sailing the seas
as buccaneers. In retrospect all they were just trying to do was trade food and find a local seaman
to take them home. On August 26 Lt. Commander Thomas R. Gedney spotted the

The Fountainhead and Dead Poets Society
Qualifications of a Proud Man Pride, then, seems to be a sort of crown of the virtues; for it
makes them greater, and it is not found without them. Therefore it is hard to be truly proud; for it
is impossible without nobility and goodness of character (ARISTOTLE) writes Aristotle in
chapter 3 of his Nichomachean Ethics. In this excerpt, Aristotle describes the pride and
characteristics of a proud man or great souled man. Considering the characters of Howard Roark
and John Keating, the two seem to be exemplary examples of Aristotle s proud man. Although
different in many ways, these two men qualify greatly for the role of a proud man because of their
similar basic beliefs of not aiming at things commonly held in honour, to ask for... Show more

Mr. Keating on the other hand asked one of his students to read an excerpt to the class in order
to express his feelings on life. The excerpt read, To put to route all that was not life; and not,
when I had come to die, discover I had not lived. Keating stressed to his students the importance
of living your life to the fullest. He taught them that if they aren t doing what they love to do
then life wasn t worth living. Neil Perry, a student of Mr. Keating, took this lesson to heart and
took his own life when his father forbid him from doing what he loved. He felt that his life
should not be lived if he could not pursue his love for acting. Concluding, by doing what he
loved, Mr. Keating taught the boys to do what they love in their life and to seize the day.
Howard Roark risked his own life because he couldn t live if his principles were going to be
compromised. Overall, Roark and Keating are extraordinary characters of a proud man in the
way that they live their life to the fullest potential. To conclude, pride is concerned with honour
on the grand scale, as has been said by Aristotle. Howard Roark and John Keating qualify as
examples to be Aristotle s proud man or great souled man because of their undeniably similar
characteristics. The two men excel in which other people mainly do not. They are men of few
deeds but great and notable ones. Roark and Keating have the generous

infringe the domain name policy and will it be cancelled or transformed ? II. SHORT ANSWER
Yes, www.anzac.com.tr infringes the domain name policy III. FACTS Anatolian New Zeytin
Agricultural Co op (ANZAC), which helps a collective group of olive growers and
manufacturers in Turkey for 20 years, launched a website called www.anzac.com.tr in English, in
January 2013 to inform the global market about Turkish olive agriculture. The website includes
comprehensive information about the olive industry in Turkey. Records show that the Co op s
website had 100.000 hits from around the world during 15 months but since no products are sold
on this website, it did not bring any income to the Co op. The Complainant, Australian
Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA), is a governmental support organization for people who
have served or are serving in the Australian Defence Force. The lawyers claim that the Co op s
domain name Anzac , which is known and used in Australia to refer to the Australian and New

infringes on the DVA s rights because the domain name that the Co op using in bad faith they said,
is confusingly similar to the use of the word Anzac and they contend that the Co op may unlawfully

Persuasive Essay On How To Apply Makeup
How to Apply Makeup: Step by Step We all hit the age of first wanting to wear makeup, but we
all run into the same problem. How do we apply it? There are so many steps and products to use
but not everyone knows what to use or how to apply it. You can find many videos online of girls
doing their makeup, but today I will explain a step by step process of how to apply it and what
tools you should use. The very first step you should do is wash your face. This step should be
done every time before doing makeup. Before you ever do your makeup you should have a clean
canvas before you start applying products to your face. If you have dry, flaky patches on your
skin, you could exfoliate. Most exfoliating scrubs have small rough microbeads in them. As you
rub the scrub onto your face in circular motions, it will remove the dry patches. By doing this, it
will help to make your foundation go on smoother. After you wash your face, you will want to
apply a moisturizer, another extremely important step. The moisturizer will nourish all of the dry
patches that the exfoliator could not remove. Moisturizers are made for every skin type. For
example, there are moisturizers for oily skin, dry skin, combo skin, and nighttime and daytime.
You should pick a moisturizer that is suitable for your skin type. You only need to apply a dime
size amount to your entire face. If you apply too much, the excess moisturizer will sit on top of
your skin and not sink in. You will want to let the moisturizer

Root Cause Analysis Paper
Define a root cause analysis and when it is used.Root Cause Analysis (RCA) is a controlled
method used to analyze serious adverse events. Originally developed to analyze industrial
accidents, RCA is now commonly organized as an error investigation tool in health care. A
principal theory of RCA is to identify fundamental problems that increase the probability of errors
while avoiding the trap of focusing on mistakes by individuals. RCA thus uses the systems approach
to identify both active errors: errors occurring at the point of interface between humans and a
complex system and dormant errors: the hidden problems within health care systems that contribute
to adverse events. It is one of the most widely used methods for detecting safety... Show more

RCAs are one of the most used methods to improving patient safety. However, much of the
problem lies in how RCAs are understood rather than in how they perform, since there is no
agreement on how hospitals should follow up on RCA data. This limits the usefulness of RCAs
as a quality improvement tool. Another issue is that few devices exist for analysis of multiple
RCAs across institutions. As an individual case study of a specific error, analysis of multiple
RCAs performed at different institutions may help identify patterns of error and point the way
toward many solutions (Ewen Bucher, 2013; Root Cause Analysis, 2014; Utah Department of
Administrative Services, 2013). This tool is easy to use and requires little or no training. It
identifies the underlying causes of problems. However, it also assumes that systems and events are
interrelated, which may not always be the case (Root Cause Analysis, 2015). Outline the steps to
conduct a root cause analysis. To determine the cause of an error certain steps must be followed in

Theseus As A Hero In The Heroic Hero
Myths consists of many legendary heroes within, but what makes them different from an
ordinary person. Many convey that it is not very challenging to be a hero, but wise ones know
the struggles of being a hero, which the texts Theseus and The Adventure of Odysseus , written
in the book Mythology by Edith Hamilton proves. Heroes may require help from others, but
more often than not, they are fearless fighters who do not need the aid of others to be successful.
Heroes might easily gain credits for the work of their fellow allies, but that does not mean it is easy
to be a hero. A true hero should not be afraid of pain or death just like the great legend Theseus. At
the same time, these heroes must be like the extraordinary hero Odysseus, who is successful in his
heroic journey. Heroes need sidekicks, whom they rely on for multiple reasons, but end up with all
the credit; just like how Theseus obtains all the glory for Ariadne s thinking and how Odysseus
attains almost all the credits for Athena s work. Ariadne tells Theseus the way to get out of the
Labyrinthwhere the Minotaur stays, She would bring about the escape if he would promise to
take her back to Athens and marry her ( Theseus Hamilton 207). The only reason Theseus is able
to slaughter the Minotaur and escape the maze is because of Ariadne. Theseus leaves Ariadne to
die on an island. Even if she dies because of a disease, he should have at least informed the
people of Athens that she is a huge reason for his success. At the end he gains all the glory and
becomes known for single handedly defeating the Minotaur. Moreover, Athena releases Odysseus,
after many arguments with the gods and sends him on a journey, which makes him a legend. The
Olympians were moved by her words... Zeus spoke for them all when he said they must put their
heads together and contrive a way for him to return ( The Adventures of Odysseus Hamilton 287).
Athena releases Odysseus from his punishment after having many debates with the gods. Not only
that, but she also helps him by giving him a boat to travel back to his homeland. After a long
journey, he returns home and takes his kingdom back and becomes a legend, but not many
appreciate Athena for Odysseus success.

The Internal Production Spaces Of Large Cities
This same logic leads not just towards generalized urban agglomeration but to the emergence of
multiple dense industrial districts within the metropolis. The internal production spaces of large
cities are composed of mosaics of particular kinds of industrial land use focused on localized nodal
clusters comprising activities that range from manufacturing to office and service functions. For
example, gun and jewellery manufacturing in Birmingham, England; footwear industry of East
London; clothing production of New York City; motor vehicle industry of Tokyo; and office
functions in modern metropolis illustrate different aspects of the theory of industrial organization
and location. They represent especially clear cases of the internal specialization of parts of the
production space of the large metropolis. As such, they illustrate both, the generality of the problem
of agglomeration and the wide diversity of concrete forms that it can assume under different
conjectural circumstances.
The metropolis and the neighbourhood can be linked to the Chicago school of urban sociology,
which has developed ethnographic studies based on various ethnic neighbourhoods over several
decades. This kind of work focuses on interaction and its density within the city, generating an
ecological stereotype of the urban process depending on the conflict and competition between
various groups and their growth in terms of spatial and social movement. The city is an area of
dense mobility and

The Wrongful Conviction Of Juan Rivera

Part I On November 19th, 1993 Juan Rivera was convicted for the August 17th, 1992 rape and
murder of then eleven year old Holly Staker, who at the time was babysitting her two siblings
(University of Michigan Law School). His wrongful conviction was the result of failures by not
only the public, but also law enforcement personnel and the criminal justice system, as we will
further examine. According to the University of Michigan s Law School, Juan Rivera s initial
arrest came on October 26th after Lake County Police received a tip from an informant. Rivera was
then questioned for four days and at the end of the fourth day Rivera falsely confessed to Staker
s rape and murder (University of Michigan Law School). Following his confession, the two
interrogators went on to type a confession for Rivera to sign. After obtaining Rivera s signature,
however, the prosecutor found the narrative to be incohesive, and asked the interrogators to
correct it and to obtain Rivera s signature on the second written confession. Rivera s signature was
later obtained on October 30th (University of Michigan Law School). Of course, it is tough to
comprehend why a reasonable and innocent individual such as Mr. Rivera would confess to a crime
he did not commit (Gould). Upon further review, however, there were notable flaws as to how this
case was treated. To

Fairness, Open Mindedness And Neutrality
Professionals in the United States Army stand apart from others involved in particular careers in
the civilian world. Whereas many vocations contain some of the characteristics of a professional,
a lot of careers do not include all of the necessary to differentiate themselves as being as close to a
professional as a United States soldier. Professionalism grows depending on the time and service
that the individual has in the Army.
A professional is said to have specialized knowledge and skill which can only be acquired through
persistent education and experience. Such skill and experience form the basis of objective
standards of proficient competence that separate the practicing professional from their peers and
measure the proficiency of such professionalism. This professional knowledge must also be
intellectual in nature.
Soldiers are required to accept responsibility for their actions and resulting consequences. This
includes avoiding even the appearance of offensiveness. Accountability promotes careful, well
thought out decision making and limits thoughtless action. Fairness, open mindedness and
neutrality are important aspects of fairness. Soldiers must be committed to justice in the
performance of their official duties. Decisions must not be illogical, impulsive, or biased.
Individuals must be treated equally and with tolerance.
Such professional is the paratrooper. Paratroopers are military parachutists military personnel

Socrates Phaedo Analysis
In 388 BC, with a vote of 280 to 220, Socrates was sentenced to death. The Phaedo is the famous
account of Socrates death, where he offers his grieving friends many different arguments to justify
his belief in the immortality of the soul, and that it is only the body they will bury . Socrates
believes that one who has devoted his life to philosophyshould be confident in the face of death,
and hopeful of winning the greatest prizes in the next world after death . His rather optimistic
attitude towards death is justified by his belief that either death is a state of nothingness and utter
unconsciousness or it is the change and migration of the soul from this world to another and so
death should not be feared. To back up his claim, he uses the Argument from... Show more content

We must depend on contemporary sources from Plato and Xenophon and this imposes many
complications since it becomes unclear who ides are being presented at any one time. Plato was
also a philosopher himself, who recorded majority of the sources we have regarding Socrates life.
However, being a disciple of Socrates, his works may have introduced great bias and portrayed
Socrates in good light. More importantly, he would have been influenced by his own views and
beliefs towards a particular subject. In his account of Socrates death in the Phaedo, it is noted that
Plato was not there and therefore not an eyewitness to the event. This meant that many parts of it
may have been purely fictional, as he would also have immersed his own belief systems in
relation to death and the afterlife. Plato believed in the idea of incarnation, where one travels to the
underworld without any memory of the previous life and continued to live. He insisted that there
was an endless circle alternating between life and the afterlife, where the tripartite soul was in a
constant cycle being trapped in a human body and then escaping the body at death to return to the
realm of the forms and then back into a human body

The Maternal Mortality Rate Of Afghanistan Essay
Goal 5
The fifth goal is to increase maternal health in countries with a focus on reducing the maternal
mortality rate by three fourths and universal access to reproductive health both by 2015. Despite a
43% reduction in maternal deaths since 1990, there are still a large number of women who die
during childbirth from preventable causes such as hemorrhaging (United Nations, 2015, p. 38).
In 2002 Afghanistan reported a baseline figure of 1,600 deaths per 100,000 with a 2015 targeted
reduction to 315 (Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, 2013, p. 53). While Afghanistan was able to
reach the original goal it had set for itself, new goals were created to combat the continuous high
number of maternal deaths. Afghanistan has identified general lack of family planning, a limited
supply of qualified midwives, and limited access to health care in general as contributing factors
towards such high maternal death rates. The state has been working with UNICEF, WHO, and other
international partners to implement its National Reproductive health strategy to help combat the
conditions in which Afghanistan mothers find themselves.
Goal 6
The sixth goal is to combat HIV/AIDS and other diseases, focusing on reversing their spread and
providing universal access to treatment. We have seen progress made in most countries towards
achieving this goal, with the statistics falling every day, however, we are far from the finish line as
a little over 2 million people still contract AIDS/HIV.

The Illegal Steroid Use in The Major League Baseball
The purpose in constructing this report is to take a look and study the illegal steroid use in Major
League Baseball, and possible ways it can be exempt from the game forever. Use of performance
enhancing drugs is cheating and causes inequalities, in which new repercussions should be
implemented. These new rules should include a zero tolerance level, records stripped and not being
rewarded of their accomplishments; which is to include banishment from an admittance into the
Hall of Fame. Furthermore, it causes major health concerns and could end a player s career, along
with mitigating health problems down the road. The total elimination of steroids in MLB (Major

In 2003, David Boomer Wells claimed that up to 40% of major leaguers used steroids, and then
in 2005, Jose Canseco addressed the media with stating that 80% of major leaguers had taken
steroids, and have credited the drug for their entire career (Gilman, 2013, p.2). So the facts are
there, players are using and abusing to cheat their way into the HOF (Hall of Fame). The one
time strike is followed without pay, because the player will not completely process the magnitude
of what he did was wrong. This solution would hold true to the integrity of the game and keep the
playing field fair across the board. For the fair players this zero tolerance level is a godsend.
Records Stripped
Players that are breaking records and accomplishing tasks a normal man cannot amount to without
the use of performance enhanced drugs, should not be applauded for. Athletes who use and test
positive for steroids will be banished from baseball s record books and will be ineligible to enter
the Hall of Fame. Players value their status as one of the greatest and are honored to be
accounted for in the record books, and if none of that is recorded then what would be the use of
cheating. It would be as if the player never participated or even played the game (Abramson, 2014,
p.2). Mark Maguire, a front runner currently awaiting his election into the Hall of Fame, has been

  • 2. The Tragedy Of The Commons The Tragedy of the Commons American Earth: Environmental Writing Since Thoreau is a diverse yet interconnected collection of essays by renowned environmentalist authors who have been influential in literature, religion, science, and politics. Each piece has a specific purpose and role that it plays in conveying ideas and themes. Many authors share their personal opinions on issues such as the world s declining forests, the extinction of species, such as birds in Gene Stratton Porter s The Last Passenger Pigeon (192), and their intimate experiences with nature, such as Julia Butterfly Hill s The legacy of Luna (907). However, the most influential essay in this book is The Tragedy of the Commonsby Garrett Hardin (438). A multitude of pieces in this book tie into the tragedy of the commons and support its ideas in one way or another. In his essay Hardin discusses how the rapid decline of the world s common places, such as natural animal pastures, are the result of rapid, uncontrolled human population growth. Hardin suggests that environmental problems such as deforestation, crowding out of native species, loss of resources, pollution, poor job economy, etc., are the result of the loss of common spaces. He indicated that common spaces used to be plentiful enough for every person to have an abundant share, but that was when the human population was smaller than the current population of 7 billion people. Hardin s powerful essay proposes many solutions and methods ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. The Sexualization Of Women In Game Of Thrones Politics of Sex, Power, and Magic How does the sexualization of Melisandre effect how the characters and audience view her character and intentions? In the TV show Game of Thrones, adapted from the novels from George R.R. Martin, we are introduced to an ambitious witch named Melisandre, also known as the red witch. In the show, seven noble houses are fighting to gain control of the entire kingdom after the King dies. Melisandre is trying to have Stannis Baratheon be king, and she is using her god The Lord of Light to guide her in bringing him to the iron throne after having a vision of him being the chosen king. In the scene, Melisandre is being rowed to a cave so she can give birth after seducing a noble lord. Throughout TV series Melisandre ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the chapter Male Gaze , she talks about how Game of Thrones and other media outlets objectify women to gain more male audiences. Frankie claims that, the Game of Thrones sex scenes are biased towards men and do not appear designed to appeal to women. (Frankle 16) In The Night Lands episode that takes place two episodes before The Gardens Bones aired, it showed Melisandre seducing Lord Stannis with the promise that she will birth him a son. Before Melisandre and Stannis have sex, she tells him that she can provide him a son while his current wife was sickly and brought nothing but stillborns and death. This shows that the women are just objects used for having children and without it they were worthless (unless they were prostitutes). Melisandre undid her robe and was completely naked under it and he roughly rips it off and lightly tosses her on the desk filled with battle plans and strategies. This symbolized him dominating her and being in control of the situation, he is worried about the war with his brother but he knows that he can still dominate and control (so he thinks) Melisandre. This appeals to the male audiences, because they like to be in control and dominate because it shows how masculine and macho they are. In the show, there is a disproportionate amount of female nudity vs male nudity, which conveys the message that women are nothing more than sex objects and eye candy that contributes nothing unless they are having sex or doing lewd things to get men s attention. This especially shows when Melisandre is completely naked and spread out in front of the camera while Stannis is completely covered up only having the fly of his pants undone so the audience can t see his private areas. This is just one of several times that Frankle has pointed out ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Greed in Candide 11.10.11 Engl 2333 Greed in Candide In Voltaire s novella Candide, the main character s newly found wealth from an idealized Eldorado is exploited by the world s fixation of greed that ultimately effects himself and others as he learns that money cannot buy happiness. Candide is brought up amongst greed, reared in a castle in a small corner of the world in Westphalia with the privileges of being the son of a baron s sister, his life is ultimately influenced by this example of money and power. His journey into the world, after his expulsion, begins with the notion that everything is for the best from his philosopher Pangloss that every cause has a reaction (Voltaire2). Eldorado s jewels create ambitious greed in Candide, overshadowing his main concern of surviving for his Cunegonde. Candide truly believes in the philosophy that indeed everything is for the best and Eldorado is the ideal place for this notion to flourish but he leaves this beautiful dream out of spite because he cannot function in a society that cannot be bought (Silver 2). The very true world he despises is actually the only place he has succeeded. After leaving Eldorado with numerous sheep packed with goods and fifty loaded with gold, jewels, and diamonds they are only left with two after a hundred days march that strained the convoy to its limits of starvation (Voltaire 39). They reach a Dutch town where they learn that Miss Cunegonde is a mistress to the governor in Buenos Aires and set out to find a merchant ship to set sail. The Spanish merchant Candide and Cacambo hire to transport them tells them they must not return for fear of being hanged and instead sends Cacambo with several millions to purchase her away. The men were to rendezvous in Italy once Candide secured a second vessel to take him. He finally procures a Dutch ship captained by a Mr. Vanderdendur who offers to take Candide to Italy for ten thousand piasters , notices the ease at which he agrees and soon increases the fee to twenty then thirty thousand piasters (Voltaire 41). The prison was renowned for being inescapable, and the m0ost high security prison of the time. This probably was due to it s location, which was on Alcatraz island, located around a mile away from shore, surrounded by the supposedly shark infested, strong currents, ice cold water of the bay. The wives, children, and any other family members of the guards who lived on the island would take a ferry or boat to the port of San Francisco when they needed to go to school, work, or just to go into town. Guests of children and other residents were allowed to visit the families of the island, but with inmates, they were only allowed one visit per month, each visit had to be approved directly by the warden of Alcatraz. In this visit, physical contact between the inmate and visitor was prohibited, as well as any discussion of current events. The conversations were held via an intercom system, and an officer would usually be monitoring the conversation, though, sometimes the officer would fail on this task. If there was any sort of inappropriate act or breaking of rules during these visits, the inmate would lose the privilege of monthly visits, or possibly be put under some other form of punishment. • 9. Using Compact And High Performance Wireless Communication... Chapter 1 Introduction The patch antenna plays a very important role in today s world of wireless communication systems .There is always a large demand for high performance ,small size and low cost wireless communication systems .in order to get these requirements ,planar patch antenna is preferred because of their various advantages such as light weight ,low volume ,low cost and ease for fabrication .although the microstrip patch antenna has various advantages it has various disadvantages which are low gain ,narrow bandwidth and low efficiency .These disadvantages can be overcome by constructing many patch antennas in array configuration. Recently there has been increasing demand in the use of DGSs for performance enhancement of microstrip patch antennas and planar array antennas .there are basically two types of structures which are used for the design of compact and high performance wireless communication systems named as defected ground structures (DGS) and electromagnetic band gap structures (EBG) which is also known as photonic band gap structure(PBG). These structures have been used to obtain the functions such as unwanted frequency rejection and circuit size reduction. Recently defected ground structures have been introduced; DGSs are realized by simply etching off simple shape (called as defect) from the ground plane .Depending upon the shape and the dimensions of the defects ,the current distribution in the ground plane is disturbed and resulting in a controlled ... • 10. Replication Of The Viral Dsdna LYTIC INFECTION Once the viral dsDNA has entered the nucleus, if it circularizes itself and becomes an episome within the nucleus, then the virus has entered a lytic life cycle. EBV replication takes place in specialized sites within the host nucleus, referred to as replication compartments8. It is believed that EBV replicates following the rolling circle replication model1. Figure 3 demonstrates how RCR works: after being cut with an endonuclease one strand is replicated continuously and the other is replicated discontinuously, putting together segments called linear concatamers and they code for circular DNA. Once EBV replication has begun the three stages of transcription begin to follow. EBV, along with some other viruses, transcribe their DNA in a very regulated and temporal fashion. These stages, or sets of genes, are called the immediate early (IE) genes, early (E) genes, and late (L) genes. The tegument protein VP16 helps initiate the transcription of the IE genes, which code for DNA binding proteins that will be useful for the remaining steps of transcription1. E genes codes for proteins necessary for vDNA replication as well as other helpful proteins for transcription and L genes code for structural proteins that aren t needed until after viral replication has started1. As IE and E genes are replicated and transcribed they are exported to the cell cytoplasm for translation and the appropriate proteins are brought back into the nucleus to aid in transcription or ... If someone doesn t have enough electrolytes in their system then they can t function. Electrolytes are important because they are what certain cells such as nerve, heart, and muscle use to sustain voltages across their cell membranes. They are also what cells use to carry electrical impulses, as in nerve impulses and muscle contractions, across themselves and to other cells. Kidneys work to keep the electrolyte concentration in blood constant in spite of changes in the body. Again, when exercising, the body loses most electrolytes in the sweat; sports drinks which contain sodium chloride or potassium chloride are consumed after the workout to provide the body with the energy it just lost. They also contain added sugar and flavorings to the drinks to give extra energy and to make the drink taste better. People also drink other drinks after a workout because they feel that it obtains the energy more effectively. Sports drinks are used to receive energy while doing an active, or athletic, event. There are three popular types of sports drinks: isotonic (average athlete), hypotonic (low perspiration athletes; jockeys and gymnasts), and hypertonic (long distance runners that need the extra carbohydrates and electrolytes). Isotonic sports drinks quickly replace fluids lost by sweating and supply a boost of carbohydrates. Hypotonic sports drinks quickly replace fluid lost. The captain began yelling at the dead man like a raging storm. Oaths rolled from his lips in a continuous stream. And they were not nice and thoughtful words or mere expressions of indecency. Each word was a blasphemy, and there were many words. It is this lack of remorse for others that defines Wolf Larsen, the antagonist in The Seal Wolf by Jack London. nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; From the beginning of the book you are introduced to the contrast of characters at hand. Step by step, by the might of his arms, the whole pack of men striving to drag him back and down, he drew his body up from the floor until he stood upright. The captain then proceeded to make his way up the ladder thus freeing him from this group of murderous tyrants. The whole crew of the Ghost hated Wolf with a great passion, but no one could do anything because his strength and fighting ability were unmatched. The second aspect of Wolf Larsen that makes him so great is his mind. Larsen was born and bred on the sea. Wolf never saw the inside of a schoolhouse. He taught himself everything he knew by reading the great works of American literature. Poetry and novels are the only thing that can take Wolf s mind off the sea. Through his learning he developed a quot;live for yourself only quot; theory on life. You could use such words as egocentric or arrogant to describe Wolf s trust no one attitude. But it s easy to see that he got that complete self reliance from his childhood. Wolf didn t have any parents that ever took care of him. As soon as he was of a decent age (around 10) he was on the boats as a cabin boy making his living. He taught himself reading and writing. Solution-Focused Brief Therapy Theory Among the three counseling theory for this week study, I identified with Solution Focused Brief therapy simply because its method is focused on expand the best parts of a client s life rather than the number of sessions (Henderson Thompson, 2011). Another focus of Solution Focused brief therapy is seeking solutions for clients problems rather than search for explanations about his or her problems or how the problem was developed (Henderson Thompson, 2011). In SFBT people s problem result from behavior based on their view of the world (Henderson Thompson, 2011, p. 317). The solution process does not have to start with a perfect solution for the client s problem, rather the therapist can provide the client with a skeleton key . • 22. Analysis Of Eurydice By Sarah Ruhl Sarah Ruhl s play, Eurydice, is a devastating story battling love, grief, life, and death. Although it is set during the 1950 s, the play manages to encompass the ancient Greek myth of Eurydice and Orpheus. The three most evident themes of this play are recurring death, fleeting happiness, and the power of love. The main conflict in this play is ultimately about the painful choice that comes with death; this is often caused by the King of the Underworld. One of the most impressive parts of this play is the ability to change the way the play is perceived through design. When I envision this play in my head and through my concept, I view the characters in the living world to have bright normal costumes. For Example, I can see Eurydice in sundresses and Orpheus in spring colored button up shirts and pants. This would represent the love and happiness they have for each other. On the other hand, when I think about costumes in the underworld, I believe they would need to be a little bit darker and quirky to represent the hard choices and confusion that death has pushed upon them. I think Eurydice s father should be wearing a dark suit with a crazy tie and no shoes. When both Eurydice and Orpheus arrive in the underworld their clothes should become darker and more sullen. I perceive the Stones as being deceased people from different eras that have completely forgotten who they were, and have been brainwashed by being dipped in the river and by the King of the Underworld. To represent this, their outfits need to look extremely dull and dirty; they should be everyday clothes from their different time periods. All three of their costumes should be torn and drained of all color. The Lord of the Underworld needs to have multiple different costumes. In the world of the living, he needs to be the darkest dressed; he should wear a black suit and tie. In the underworld, I envision him wearing more of a boyish outfit, such as shorts, suspenders, and crazy socks. When he becomes a man and grows to a superhuman high in the end, I would have him wear tall stilts under long dress pants and wear a suit top. The most creative part of this play is the set for both the living world and the underworld. As a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A marketing program looks at four elements that are essential to marketing: the product, the price of the product, the distribution of the product, and the promotion of a product (Ferrell and Hartline, 2005, p. 149). In order for Gillette to compete with online competitors, all four of these elements need to be addressed in a way that will benefit the company and market the product effectively. Gillette is a well known brand name that has created very popular products throughout the years. The product aspect of the marketingprogram is a strength that Gillette has created in order to start the online subscription model. Traditional Model Of Primary Health Care Essay Traditional model of primary health care that involves physician centered approaches are often inadequate for addressing the complex health needs that residents of low income neighborhoods encounter (Whelan et al., 2010). Therefore, if the Health Bus provides services that are culturally appropriate and addresses the needs of clients, it is anticipated that participants would be satisfied with the services and would use the HealthBus services. As seen in the study by Whelan that indicated that clients felt more socially inclusive as a result of chatting with staff and being treated with respect and dignity at the Health Bus in Toronto (Whelan et al., 2010). On the other hand, the evaluation may indicate that the Health Bus is not meeting the needs of residents in the neighborhood. This may be largely due to the high morbidity and mortality rates from a number of health conditions present in Saskatoon low income neighborhoods which the Health Bus services do not address. Therefore, it may be worthwhile to scale up the Health Bus services to provide a multidisciplinary health service for people living in Saskatoon s core neighborhoods by merging existing services with other equally important health services on the Health Bus such as mental health care. • 30. The Evolution Of Flightless Birds Evolution occurs when an animal species develops new bodily structures and functions in order to adapt to their new environment. These developments are seen as positive adaptations that enhances survival. However, some animal species have lost these new developments. Based on the geographic location and climate, some evolutionary developments that are no longer needed are lost due to the fact that the new bodily structure itself does not enhance the chance of survival in a particular environment (Kirchman 2009; Vieites, et al. 2009). In most cases these lost developments are passed down through future generations and are never redeveloped. However, more information is needed to decide whether or not the loss of these evolutionary developments was due to natural selection or by random mutation over years (Wilkens and Strecker 2003). In this paper, I will examine three studies from a diversity of taxa, which illustrate the history of flightless birds, how climate has influenced the evolutionof salamanders and how life lived in darkness has influenced the blindness in cave fish. Together these studies depict how these evolutionary abilities are lost and their affects on the animal species. Krichman (2009) examined the ancestry of flightless birds (Gallirallus philippenesis) through the usage of genetic testing that were sampled throughout a range of ancestral species. Summary Of A Court Of Thorns And Roses In 1943, Abraham Maslow developed the psychological theory named the hierarchy of needs, which describes motivational patterns that humans advance through. Then the third tier makes up belonging needs like friends and intimate relationships. The fourth tier consists of esteem needs and feelings of accomplishment. Constant wave and tide action influences the shore whereas several other abiotic factors regulate the ecosystems present throughout the area. (Fig 1.0) Fig 1.0 shows rocky shore The varying levels of the tides create a very complicated microhabitat for the organisms. Therefore it is hard to be truly proud; for it is impossible without nobility and goodness of character (ARISTOTLE) writes Aristotle in chapter 3 of his Nichomachean Ethics. In this excerpt, Aristotle describes the pride and characteristics of a proud man or great souled man. He taught them that if they aren t doing what they love to do then life wasn t worth living. Neil Perry, a student of Mr. Keating, took this lesson to heart and took his own life when his father forbid him from doing what he loved. There are so many steps and products to use but not everyone knows what to use or how to apply it. You can find many videos online of girls doing their makeup, but today I will explain a step by step process of how to apply it and what tools you should use. The very first step you should do is wash your face. This step should be done every time before doing makeup. Before you ever do your makeup you should have a clean canvas before you start applying products to your face. If you have dry, flaky patches on your skin, you could exfoliate. Most exfoliating scrubs have small rough microbeads in them. As you rub the scrub onto your face in circular motions, it will remove the dry patches. By doing this, it will help to make your foundation go on smoother. After you wash your face, you will want to apply a moisturizer, another extremely important step. The moisturizer will nourish all of the dry patches that the exfoliator could not remove. Moisturizers are made for every skin type. For example, there are moisturizers for oily skin, dry skin, combo skin, and nighttime and daytime. You should pick a moisturizer that is suitable for your skin type. You only need to apply a dime size amount to your entire face. If you apply too much, the excess moisturizer will sit on top of your skin and not sink in. You will want to let the moisturizer ... Originally developed to analyze industrial accidents, RCA is now commonly organized as an error investigation tool in health care. As an individual case study of a specific error, analysis of multiple RCAs performed at different institutions may help identify patterns of error and point the way toward many solutions (Ewen Bucher, 2013; Root Cause Analysis, 2014; Utah Department of Administrative Services, 2013). • 50. Theseus As A Hero In The Heroic Hero Myths consists of many legendary heroes within, but what makes them different from an ordinary person. Many convey that it is not very challenging to be a hero, but wise ones know the struggles of being a hero, which the texts Theseus and The Adventure of Odysseus , written in the book Mythology by Edith Hamilton proves. Heroes may require help from others, but more often than not, they are fearless fighters who do not need the aid of others to be successful. Heroes might easily gain credits for the work of their fellow allies, but that does not mean it is easy to be a hero. A true hero should not be afraid of pain or death just like the great legend Theseus. At the same time, these heroes must be like the extraordinary hero Odysseus, who is successful in his heroic journey. Heroes need sidekicks, whom they rely on for multiple reasons, but end up with all the credit; just like how Theseus obtains all the glory for Ariadne s thinking and how Odysseus attains almost all the credits for Athena s work. Ariadne tells Theseus the way to get out of the Labyrinthwhere the Minotaur stays, She would bring about the escape if he would promise to take her back to Athens and marry her ( Theseus Hamilton 207). The only reason Theseus is able to slaughter the Minotaur and escape the maze is because of Ariadne. Theseus leaves Ariadne to die on an island. Even if she dies because of a disease, he should have at least informed the people of Athens that she is a huge reason for his success. At the end he gains all the glory and becomes known for single handedly defeating the Minotaur. Moreover, Athena releases Odysseus, after many arguments with the gods and sends him on a journey, which makes him a legend. The Olympians were moved by her words... Zeus spoke for them all when he said they must put their heads together and contrive a way for him to return ( The Adventures of Odysseus Hamilton 287). Athena releases Odysseus from his punishment after having many debates with the gods. Not only that, but she also helps him by giving him a boat to travel back to his homeland. After a long journey, he returns home and takes his kingdom back and becomes a legend, but not many appreciate Athena for Odysseus success. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. The Internal Production Spaces Of Large Cities This same logic leads not just towards generalized urban agglomeration but to the emergence of multiple dense industrial districts within the metropolis. The internal production spaces of large cities are composed of mosaics of particular kinds of industrial land use focused on localized nodal clusters comprising activities that range from manufacturing to office and service functions. For example, gun and jewellery manufacturing in Birmingham, England; footwear industry of East London; clothing production of New York City; motor vehicle industry of Tokyo; and office functions in modern metropolis illustrate different aspects of the theory of industrial organization and location. They represent especially clear cases of the internal specialization of parts of the production space of the large metropolis. As such, they illustrate both, the generality of the problem of agglomeration and the wide diversity of concrete forms that it can assume under different conjectural circumstances. The metropolis and the neighbourhood can be linked to the Chicago school of urban sociology, which has developed ethnographic studies based on various ethnic neighbourhoods over several decades. This kind of work focuses on interaction and its density within the city, generating an ecological stereotype of the urban process depending on the conflict and competition between various groups and their growth in terms of spatial and social movement. The Maternal Mortality Rate Of Afghanistan Essay Goal 5 The fifth goal is to increase maternal health in countries with a focus on reducing the maternal mortality rate by three fourths and universal access to reproductive health both by 2015. Despite a 43% reduction in maternal deaths since 1990, there are still a large number of women who die during childbirth from preventable causes such as hemorrhaging (United Nations, 2015, p. 38). In 2002 Afghanistan reported a baseline figure of 1,600 deaths per 100,000 with a 2015 targeted reduction to 315 (Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, 2013, p. 53). While Afghanistan was able to reach the original goal it had set for itself, new goals were created to combat the continuous high number of maternal deaths. Afghanistan has identified general lack of family planning, a limited supply of qualified midwives, and limited access to health care in general as contributing factors towards such high maternal death rates. The state has been working with UNICEF, WHO, and other international partners to implement its National Reproductive health strategy to help combat the conditions in which Afghanistan mothers find themselves.
