division. This division was the most undermanned, under qualified, and busiest department there
was. We were directly in charge of the flight operations that carried out our squadron s missions.
To make matters even more difficult, every sailor who came to my department was brand new
to the military, coming straight from boot camp. Over the next fourteen months I experienced
every emotion that came from being a leader. In the beginning I felt stressed, overwhelmed, and
inadequate. I struggled to find a balance of meeting my squadron s demands while still ensuring
the well being of my sailors. The intense pressure to perform while deployed in real world
operations taught me how to thrive in high stress environments. I learned the importance of
leading by example and the power of influence. Being a leader is not easy; it was the most
difficult time of my naval career but I loved it. I became drawn to the power I had to innovate, to
have a voice, to stand up for my sailors, and to have a profound effect on my squadron s ability to
defend our country. As a squadron, we completed 98% of our deployment missions and received a
grade of 99.4% in our annual Aviation Maintenance Inspection. My department received a 100% in

This company is considered a high tech company and in the past year opened offices in Boston,

I am an international student and last year I was invited by my high school to do a sharing about
my college life in the United States. I am getting everything I want, with the help of my family I
