This document defines and provides examples of tesselations (also called parquetes). It discusses periodic, symmetrical, and regular (Platonic) tesselations. The document then shows examples of the author's own Platonic and Archimedean parquetes made from squares and hexagons/triangles. It also briefly discusses the artist M.C. Escher and his use of tesselation patterns in his artwork. In closing, it lists sources for further information on parquetes, tesselations, and Escher's work.

2. WHAT IS A TESSELATION
(PARQUETES) ?
Tesselation (in Polish- parquet) is covering the surface with adjacent
polygons and do not occur.
Types of tesselation of the surface: Types of
parquetes:
- periodic tesselation - Platonic
parquetes
- symmetrical tesselation - Johnson’s
parquetes
- regular tesselation - Archimedean
parquetes

4. MY PARQUETES AND THE STAGES
OF THEIR FORMATION
There is a platonic parquet made of squares. All sides
have four centimeters. Arranged evenly with each other,
they fill all the available surface, they form Platonic
parquet.

5. MY ARCHIMEDEAN PARQUET
I made here a Archimedean parquet. It’s made from symmetric
hexagons and symmetric triangles cut from color paper.

6. TESSELATIONS-WHAT’S THAT AND
WHO MADE IT?
Maurits Cornelis Escher- Dutch painter and
graphic artist. He gained worldwide fame as a
graphic designer, in which- often from
mathematical inspirations- spatial forms were
presented in a way contrary to visual
experience.
Tesselation means regular division of the surface into
”cells”. The Latin word ”tessela” means a small square tile
which was used in ancient Rome to do mosaics.

8. MY TESSELATIONS
The shape of my tesselation was made from rectangle. Then
the pattern drawn by me was cut from above and glued by tape
at the bottom in the same place. The same was on the left side,
and that is the pattern made for tesselation. After doing these
activities, I drawn a matching pattern on each page on paper

9. In this tesselation the pattern was also created from rectangle. Then, after
making the pattern, again draw the pattern on the cardboard. In my case, I cut
out of colored paper the same pattern few times and put it together, as shown
at the pictures.
