Editor's Notes
Take Participants to Website http://esc19teksthat.weebly.com and show where information can be found
Alignment was the key to this session. We began by looking at data to drive the SEs we wanted to focus on for this session, we selected lowest overall TEKS for a variety of grade levels. The lowest performing SEs revolved around Summarization and Connections in a variety of genres, as well as poetry being the lowest performing genre.
If your grade level is not represented go to the TEKS RS and vertically align the SEs above.
Guide teachers through the TEKSRS website to show where to find the Poetry TEKS for their grade level.
YOUR TURN: Log in to TEKS Resource System and explore the Student Expectations (SEs) in Reading that are required for your grade level. Questions to ponder: How can you support students at your grade level so that they may be successful
Give teachers 20-30 minutes to explore the websites above
Will have chart paper available for display. Teachers will write with type of poem they will create so there will be no repeats
After creating the poem, they will write it on the chart paper and identify what grade level it is for
Share with whole class
Analysis of poetry
Teams will swap poems and will analyze the other team’s poem using the TEKS R S website
Teachers will comment on a blog in weebly about their analysis. They will share an activity and an assessment to use with the students. (see sample in cathedral website)
