VIZAG STEEL – THE FIRST “A 5S CERTIFIED PLANT’’
IN THE STEEL INDUSTRY
--Recognition reflects RINL collective capability: CMD, RINL
Vizag Steel, the flag ship unit of the RINL, has added another jewel to its dazzling crown by achieving the
‘Plant level’ certification in “5S”-Work Place Management System. The Navratna Company has become
the first 5S certified Public Sector Enterprise in the Steel Industry, with this coveted certification.
5S, a Japanese concept for effective Work Place Management, is an indicator of organization’s
commitment towards Quality and a prime mover in the journey towards Business Excellence.
Sri P Madhusudan, CMD, RINL complimented the entire collective for the significant achievement and
observed that the recognition reflects the commitment of the workforce and demonstrated the RINL
capability towards quality and further boosts the “Culture of business excellence” in the organization.
With this, RINL setting a new trend in Work Place Management in the Indian Steel Industry he added.
2. Shri PC Mohapatra Director (Projects) RINL received the “5S plant level certificate” from the QCFI audit
team during the certification function held today at VSP. Shri Mohapatra congratulated and appealed to
all the employees to explore and adopt further improvements in the area for sustenance of the 5S
system in the long run.
Sri R Ranjan, ED (W) I/c, other Executive Directors, GMs, HODs, Sr. Officers and 5S coordinators
participated in the function.
Two external auditors from Quality Circle Forum of India (QCFI),- Sri S Srinivasan, Chief Auditor &
Director, QCFI and Dr BR Bangray, Lead Auditor, QCFI, Hyderabad audited the workplaces of various
processing units of the entire plant for compliance of the system, sustenance and improvements in
their areas. Management Services Department coordinated the audit from 6th
to 9th
Jan’ 2014.
The contribution of the Management Services Department was appreciated in propagating the concept,
facilitating and coordinating the 5S activities with continuous monitoring and playing a pivotal role in
achieving this coveted honour.
