4. Art 307: Computer Graphics There was one main project for this class. In groups we were to find a local business and ask to use their business for our proposals. We were to create all kinds of designs to promote the business or enhance them graphically. My group chose a coffee shop on our Main Street; Mountain City Coffee House. To the right is a new menu I created to spice up the organic and naturalistic feel of the shop. My hard copy portfolio will show I also create a yellow page ad, a newspaper or magazine ad and a frequent coffee card.
5. All projects started out with thumbnails to build an idea. This was our first project to gain the understanding of type how it is main element in any design. i.e. how it can bend, flow, burst, show motion and emotion. This was a stamp project to incorporate cultural diversity. I used my heritage of being part Irish to create a four leaf clover with the words “Irish American.”
6. Art 407: Advanced Graphic Design, Typography For this project, we were to pick an artist to reflect their work using only type and make a poster. I chose Fernand Leger who was from the cubism era of art. World War I had a significant effect on his work and many of his paintings reflected his “mechanical period.” My poster on the right is to reflect Leger painting below using only type and since WWI influences his art, I decided to make that my underlying theme.
7. Art 407: Typography I scanned in a picture from a magazine, then created a layer on top to recreate the figure out of text and used the eye dropper tool to get the exact color.
11. “ PAX Trial” A monthly newsletter that circulated the Base informing patrons of events, tours, movie schedules, facility calendars and other information of what was happening on the base. I was in charge of layout and design of ads.
12. Vircity LLC. “ Virtual Office in the City” At Vircity, I was a Marketing Assistant where my main objective was to produce a start-up magazine called “FeastSide Times” that would highlight all the bars and Restaurants in the East side of Baltimore. With this publication, I gained cold selling advertising experience, where I went and met with owners of the bars and restaurants in the city to sell advertising space within our publication. I also assisted with mass mailings, created documents for clients and assisted customers handling FedEx packages, faxing documents and setting up meetings for small business owners without office space.
19. This ad was to highlight the Flu Clinic season. This was a newspaper ad to highlight the arrival of Debbie Boone, a local gift designer, to the PharmaCare Floral team and the Fall Open House.
20. Brochures Brochures PharmaCare has brochures for all the departments, and this one happens to be the PharmaCare Floral brochure that I edited and gave some flare by adding drop shadows to the pictures and sub headings. PharmaCare Floral & Gift Shoppe Brochure
21. These coupons were for the retail locations promoting the “buy one, get one” special for that month to hand out to customers.
23. Post Card Mailing The cards on the right were “reminder, mark your calendar” cards that would be put into the pick along with the card of who the flowers were from, when someone order an arrangement.
24. These flyers were hung up on all PharmaCare locations promoting the “buy one, get one” special for the month.
27. With the arrival of Debbie Boone, we had to inform her customers of her move to join the PharmaCare team, and therefore add her to our website. I created many different pages displaying her gifts for all special occasions. Web Pages
