Phineas was terrified of snakes but during a nature class, the Wilderness Director helped him overcome his fear. The Director brought out a ball python named Monty and encouraged the campers to interact with it to different degrees based on their comfort levels. Though hesitant at first, Phineas eventually touched and then held Monty. By the end of class, Phineas' wonder about snakes had replaced his initial fear and he proclaimed snakes were now his favorite animals. The Director found facilitating these experiences helped campers trade their fears for a sense of wonder about the natural world.
