Let’s do a group activity!
Go to your respective group and be enjoy.
Be Active and Respect each others.
Assigned Activities:
GROUP 1: Press ‘n’ Slide
GROUP 2: Where does an Earthquake
Start?
GROUP 3: Find Me!
GROUP 4: Shake it Off!
Get ready and now we proceed to the
presentation of output by group.
Where does the earthquake start?
The breaking of the
rocks will start at the
point where rocks are
weakest.
This spot where the
first break occurs is
called FOCUS or
HYPOCENTER
Focus
Is the origin or
center of the
earthquake, located
underground.
“Hypo” means
under or beneath.
Epicenter
A point on the surface of
the earthquake which is
directly above the focus,
where the earthquake
vibrations reach first.
“Epi” means surface.
What is the difference of Focus and
Epicenter?
The focus is the place inside
Earth's crust where an
earthquake originates. The
point on the Earth's surface
directly above the focus is
the epicenter.
We cannot prevent natural
earthquakes from occurring but we
can significantly mitigate their
effects by identifying hazards,
building safer structures, and
providing education on
earthquake safety. By preparing
for natural earthquakes we can also
reduce the risk from human induced
earthquakes.
Drop. Cover. Hold on.
DROP down onto your hands and knees before the earthquake knocks you down.
COVER your head and neck (and your entire body if possible) underneath a sturdy table or
desk.
HOLD ON to your shelter (or to your head and neck) until the shaking stops.
