FAIR Metadata and Discovery Service
EUDAT B2FIND
2
EUDAT-B2FIND is is the cross-disciplinary discovery service of EUDAT
B2FIND is research community driven and allows a cross-discipline facetted search over
a wide scope of distributed and various research data repositories
The implementation of the discovery portal is based on CKAN and SOLR
- Users can search for research data via a GUI with powerful facetted search features or a CLI
(python script) using the RESTful CKAN-API
- Allows the access to the underlying data resources by providing persistent identifiers
- Joining B2FIND as a data provider and publishing metadata follows a low barrier approach and
is implemented by a modularized ingestion workflow
In the ‘Guidelines for Dataproviders’ detailed support and detailed usage policies and
terms of use are provided
B2FIND is accessible to everyone and is open to any kind of research data.
Use cases :
- End users search for cross-domain research data in order to reuse them for their own research
- Communities publish and index metadata to make their research data visible and searchable
across a wide range of disciplines

B2FIND was build up for
Providing an easy-to-use webportal that enables
researchers and scientists from all over the world to
easily search, find and access research data
Enabling Scientific Communities to make their research
data searchable and findable
Following a flexible and low barrier approach for data
providers by supporting
- several domain specific metadata schemas and standards
- different harvesting methods
- divergent metadata transfer formats

B2FIND
is the cross-disciplinary discovery service of EUDAT
will be the central indexer for EOSC-hub
offers a comprehensive metadata catalog that includes
metadata records for research data from
- very different research domains
- distributed over memory areas within EOSC-hub and beyond
also acts as a data curator = endorsing data providers in
- the creation
- dissemination and
- quality assurance
of their metadata

A modular workflow was set up for the metadata ingestion
- Joining B2FIND as a data provider and publishing metadata
follows a low barrier approach
- Community outreach and negotiation with the data providers
about the specific mapping and needs is central
- The modular ingestion workflow is implemented based on a
comprehensive Python source code stack

B2FIND supports
- For harvesting:
OAI-PMH as a preferred option, CSW, JSON-API and others
- For exchange-format:
both XML and JSON
- For standards:
several community specific metadata standards are supported
 DublinCore
 Data Cite
 ISO 19139 / ISO 19115 (INSPIRE)
 DDI
 CMDI
 And others
B2FIND is open and keen to extend the service to any further community
standard
