2. • “The earth, the air, the land and the water are
not an inheritance from our fore fathers but on
loan from our children. So we have to handover
to them at least as it was handed over to us.”
- MAHATMA
3. INTRODUCTION
Eco-friendly products are products that do not harm the environment, whether in
their production, use or disposal. Some of these going green products when in use,
help conserve energy, minimize carbon footprint or the emission of greenhouse
gases, and does not lead to substantial toxicity or pollution to the environment.
Other green products are biodegradable, recyclable or compostable. Hence, they do
not harm the environment or upset the ecological balance when they are disposed
of. There are also eco-friendly products that are made out of recycled materials.
These recycle products help reduce the need for new raw materials and the amount
of waste sent to landfills and incinerators (because waste can be diverted to making
recycled products).
4. Environment-friendly, Eco-friendly, Nature-friendly, Green are marketing terms referring
to goods and services, laws, guidelines and policies that inflict reduced, minimal, or no harm
upon ecosystems or the environment.
When a product uses the label of eco-friendly it is meant to communicate that the product can
be used without harm to the environment.
Eco-friendly literally means earth-friendly or not harmful to the environment. This term most
commonly refers to products that contribute to green living or practices that help conserve
resources like water and energy
Eco-friendly products are “products that do not harm the environment whether in their
production, use or disposal”. In other words, these products help preserve the environment by
significantly reducing the pollution they could produce.
5. Why Eco Products?
Due to increase in global warming and climate change the public concern for
environmental issues is gradually increased over the past decades. The
customers are started demanding eco-friendly products and they pay more
attention to the environment, wealth and health
The companies are started adopting green marketing practices in their
activities as a part of social responsibility and they were trying to reach the
customers with their green messages.

8. CHALLENGES TO ECO FRIENDLY PRODUCTS
• Costly Products: Green products require innovation and a lot of investment.
This increases the cost of developing the products, which results in making
them a bit costly than the available alternatives in the market. The cost factor
usually discourages the consumers in buying them.
• Limited availability – The first and foremost problem you may face when
looking for eco-friendly products is where to find them. Finding the best
eco-friendly products that can suit your requirements may not be such an
easy job. Sometimes you have to go to smaller stores or online to find
products that are eco-friendly.
• Investment: Green products requires the development of new technologies.
This requires a large investment in research and development (R&D). Not
every company or startup can afford to spend this amount.
9. What Makes an Environmentally Friendly Product?
•The materials it contains : Eco-friendly products usually contain material that's been
recycled, material that's easily recycled, or material gathered from a natural source, like bamboo,
which is easy to replace and minimally damaging to harvest. Environmentally friendly products
avoid toxic chemicals known to cause harm.
•The way it's produced: An environmentally friendly product can be made in a
facility powered by solar power, for example, or in a building designed to use the least
amount of water possible.:
•The manner it's used: Products might encourage environmentally conscious
behaviors in consumers. Reusable water bottles, for example, help people avoid buying
one-use plastic water bottles, which can clog landfills if not recycled.
11. Energy Star (EPA)
Launched on: March 15, 1992
Applicable on: Various electronic gadgets, buildings etc.
Energy star is a certification that aims at reducing energy consumption and
emission of greenhouse gases thereby reducing the over usage of non-renewable
resources and protecting the environment. It identifies and labels the products,
buildings and electronic appliances with high energy efficiency.
12. Forest Stewardship Council (FSC)
•Launched on: 1993
•Applicable on: Forest and forest products
FSC aims at the management of the world’s forest and labels and certifies the
products as eco-friendly. The management aims at keeping the air and water
clean and reduces the drastic change of environment due to pollution. Their
logo indicates that the forest product has come from some economically
viable, environmentally suitable and socially helpful sources.
13. Green Seal
• Launched on: 1989
• Applicable on: Cleaning products, hotels, household products, paints and
many more.
• The green seal founder focuses on reducing the harmful effect of raw
materials extraction, production, use and reuse of disposed of wastes. Before
issuing the certificate, the organisation goes through a certain evaluation
process that includes reviewing of data, labelling, marketing advertising
material and onsite examination.
14. USDA Organic
• Launched on: 2002
• Applicable on: Food and agricultural products
• USDA aims at the production of 100% organic crops and avoids fraud. They
prohibit the use of synthetic chemicals ad genetically modified seeds. To
guarantee pure products, they strictly maintain a separation between non-
organic and organic products and undergo onsite inspection at regular
intervals.
15. Electronic Product Environmental Assessment Tool
(EPEAT)
• Launched on: 2005
• Applicable on: electronic products
• EPEAT certification helps the consumers to evaluate the environmental
effect of an electronic device. Depending upon the environmental
performance, the products are rated as gold, silver or bronze.
16. Green Marketing
• Green marketing is the marketing of environmentally friendly
products and services.
• Green marketing can involve a number of different things, such as
creating an eco-friendly product, using eco-friendly packaging,
adopting sustainable business practices, or focusing marketing efforts
on messages that communicate a product’s green benefits.
• This type of marketing can be more expensive, but it can also be
profitable due to the increasing demand. For example, products made
locally in North America tend to be more expensive than those made
overseas using cheap labor, but they have a much smaller carbon
footprint because they don’t have to fly across the globe to get here.
For some consumers and business owners, the environmental benefit
outweighs the price difference.
17. GREENWASHING
• Greenwashing is the process of conveying a false impression or providing
misleading information about how a company's products are more environmentally
sound.
• Greenwashing is considered an unsubstantiated claim to deceive consumers into
believing that a company's products are environmentally friendly.
• For example, companies involved in greenwashing behavior might make claims that
their products are from recycled materials or have energy-saving benefits. Although
some of the environmental claims might be partly true, companies engaged in
greenwashing typically exaggerate their claims or the benefits in an attempt to
mislead consumers.
• Greenwashing is a play on the term "whitewashing," which means using misleading
information to gloss over bad behavior.
18. How to avoid Greenwashing ?
• Fluffy language: Words or terms with no clear meaning (e.g., "eco-friendly")
• Green products vs. dirty company: For example, efficient light bulbs made in a
factory that pollutes rivers
• Suggestive pictures: Images that give an (unjustified) green impression (e.g., flowers
blooming from exhaust pipes)
• "Best-in-class" boasts: Declaration that you are slightly greener than the rest, even if
the rest are pretty terrible
• Designations that are just not credible: For instance, the "greening" of a dangerous
product to make it seem safe ("eco-friendly" cigarettes)
19. The various steps that we can do to be eco-friendly
are:
• Golden 3Rs – reduce, reuse, recycle.
• Conserve energy and power.
• Conserve water and protect water resources.
• Develop greenery and forests.
• Using energy efficient products.
• Eco-damage is the damage caused to the environment which makes
it unsuitable to live in.
21. 1. Bamboo Toothbrushes
We do start off our day with plastics, the very first being our toothbrush. This
essential item, when tossed into the trash and subsequently in a garbage pit
somewhere, take around 400 years – 4 WHOLE CENTURIES – to
decompose! It’s also not something you can get rid of burning, not without
consequences; the chemicals released while burning plastic are quite toxic.
These toothbrushes made of mostly sustainable materials that can
decompose naturally (the bristles are usually made of nylon, so they aren’t a
100% biodegradable), they last for almost the same duration that is
recommended for plastic toothbrushes (3-4 months).
22. 2.Eco-Friendly Cutlery
It’s not always possible to lug around stainless steel spoons and forks,
especially if you need a whole lot for an event or a picnic. In the case
disposable cutlery is the only option we have, pick those that can be
friends of the environment. We get to choose from wooden spoons
and forks, leaf or bamboo plates and cups, and even edible cutlery. It
is better than throwing out an infinite number of plastic cutlery that
will probably end up sticking around for a couple of centuries, long
enough for your kids’ kids to see.
23. 3.Beeswax Wraps
Cling wrap that is used to seal food is thrown away without a second glance.
It’s something we use in plenty and gets discarded after one throw. There is
an expensive alternative to this, however; but the price paid becomes worth
it once you’re able to get the number of uses that you do out of this product.
We’re talking about beeswax wraps, which are thin cotton-cloths that are
lined with beeswax, an odourless product with anti-bacterial and anti-fungal
properties. These can be used for a couple of months at a stretch, and are
washable as well. Just make sure that you don’t use it to cover hot food as
the beeswax can melt.
24. 4. Rechargeable Batteries
The main benefit of rechargables is that they can be used over
and over, so fewer ordinary batteries should be manufactured.
In fact, rechargeable batteries consume up to 24 times less non-
renewable natural resources than disposable ones. Recharging is
more efficient than buying and making new ones. In the long
run, your customers will save money, energy and time. And if
using a disposable one, download an app iRecycle to find
recycling points for those often-forgotten batteries and
electronics items in your bin.
25. 5. Ballpoint Pens Made From
Recycled Water Bottles
Water bottles are one of the top contributors to not only plastic pollution, but
to world pollution in general. You can support removing some of those
bottles from landfills by purchasing these ballpoint pens from Pilot.
26. 6. Harvest Pack Round
Compostable Plates
• ALL NATURAL - Made of 100% non-toxic sustainable plant byproduct
material; Leaves no carbon footprint
• MICROWAVABLE - Reheat food in microwave; Safe with hot or cold foods
• SAFE & DURABLE - Food safe and contains no artificial coating,
petroleum, wax, chlorine or bleach; Unlike styrofoam plastic or thin paper,
the natural fiber blend is stronger and more durable
• COMPOSTABLE - Made of compostable Bagasse sugarcane material.
Company is Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) Certified
• CONVENIENT - Ideal for party, wedding, picnic, camping, or any other
times washing dishes is not viable
27. 7. Eco-Friendly Cars
• An eco-friendly vehicle is a great way to help human health and the
environment.
• A green vehicle releases less harmful chemicals into the air, as it emits low
carbon compounds when running. Find out the different reasons why eco-
friendly cars are so important, and how they can help prevent more damage to
the environment.
• Electric cars do not burn any fuel. They run solely on electricity, which
means they don’t release any harmful chemicals into the air you breathe.
Hybrids, on the other hand, are different from conventional and electric
vehicles. Hybrids possess an electric motor and an internal combustion
engine, which is what a conventional vehicle runs on. The fact that hybrids
possess two engines and rely on electricity more often means that they burn
less fuel than your average car.
28. 8. WATER POWERED CLOCK
The Bedol Water Clock keeps perfect time without batteries or electricity.
Just open the fill cap and add water. The Bedol Water Clock uses cutting
edge technology to generate its own energy. Electrodes within the water
reservoir convert ions into a current strong enough to power the clock for 3-
month or more. A built in memory chip ensures you never need to reset the
time while changing the water.
29. 9. Eco-Friendly Kettle
The eco-friendly Eco Kettle contains a special compartment in which the
water is stored when you fill it in. Then, you have to release a button to
transfer your desired amount of water in the second compartment, which will
be the only one to actually boil the water. This will prevent energy to be
wasted by boiling more water than you actually need.
30. 10.Cloth Napkins
Millions of napkins and diapers are disposed every day in the world, after
having been used just once. The trick here is to use reusable products, often
made of bamboo or clothes. They are easily washed and as a bonus will keep
your baby away from the harmful chemicals used to make classic diapers.
31. CONCLUSION
• Being eco-friendly or environmentally friendly is becoming more and more
important. .Eco-friendly products promote green living that help to conserve
energy and also prevent air, water and noise pollution. They prove to be
boon for the environment and also prevent human health from deterioration.
• Eco-friendly or environment-friendly is to stay and live with the intent
of not to harm the environment we live in. environment should be
protected and conserved so as to provide a sustainable environment for the
present and the future generations.
