Today we are going to talk about holistic gardening, which is nothing but organic gardening. We plant flowers for our own enjoyment and vegetables for food. There is a whole universe of insects, butterflies and birds who also benefit from our gardening. By using chemicals in our garden we poison ourselves slowly-sometimes over generations-. That is because we are bigger built than most of the wildlife we see in our gardens. These wildlife perish when chemicals are used either in the form of pesticides or in the form of fertilizers.
Todays talk is about my experiences as a gardener for the last about ten years in Gurgaon. About the wildlife I observe in my garden which gives tremendous pleasure and meaning to my gardening efforts.
Conserving wildlife does not mean saving tigers and elephants alone, it means conserving the whole web of life and we as garden enthusiasts can play a BIG part in conserving the web of life.
Despite the numerous benefits and advantages gotten from biodiversity, it is under serious threat as a result of human activities. The main dangers worldwide are population growth and resource consumption, climate change and global warming, habitat conversion and urbanization, invasive alien species, over-exploitation of natural resources and environmental degradation.

3. West Africa produces 600,000 MT of Shea nut traded annually according to Global Shea
Alliance. Nigeria accounts for over forty (40) percent of nuts traded.
There is a need to further boost the production of Shea nut and butter for export so as to
boost wealth creation and job creation nationwide in the Shea nut producing zones in
Africa.
TECHNOLOGIES
The need to harness Shea export commodity to create 500,000 jobs for youth and women
in Nigeria will be a laudable initiative of providing jobs and addressing poverty, which
will go a long way in increasing revenue generation in the Shea producing zones and
projecting Nigeria among the largest exporters of Shea nuts and butter in West Africa and
the world.
This process will reduce youth restiveness, create international market participation and
the platform will provide easy access for other commodities that are widely consumed
globally, which will be of great value to the Shea producing zones as the value chain will
evolve and government stand a dual chance of benefiting from it by addressing the
problem of unemployment to a very large extent, revenue generation and attraction of

foreign investors and improving the quality of life of host communities.
4. To create 5,000,000 jobs from Shea trees producing zones in Africa by processing all the
available nuts using ARATIShea Shea nut drying machine for production.

Processing/Storage: Each machine designed and developed (see below) will produce
minimum (20 metric ton weekly) dried Shea nut. Women and youth will be engaged in the
processing of the nut with the capacity of 240 Metric Ton yearly (minimum).
Packaging/Branding: Packaging the Shea nut and butter with international standard for
export and local consumption.

11. The importance of local knowledge to Manage the Shea waste cake for reuse and
sustainability:
Soil fertility is declining in many parts of sub-Saharan Africa in the Shea tree
production zones.
One of the major constraints to Shea tree domestication is the inadequate supply of
soil nutrients.
The use of mineral fertilisers is declining as they are increasingly beyond the means
TECHNOLOGIES
of most small-scale farmers and soil degradation affect soil health.
Erosion and severe run-off are further depleting existing soil nutrient reserves,
while levels of soil organic matter are declining as land is subject to over-use.
The application of environmental biotechnology ( OBD-Plus microbes Patent) to
Shea cake waste conversion to Biofertilizer with improve soil conversation and
enhance domestication of the Shea tree.

20. Shea nut tree and its ecological services has been an economic and social force across Africa for
millennia. The impacts are felt from villages throughout the world. Karite Research Group (KRG) think

Nutrition/nutraceutical.
Our focus is multi-disciplinary, research-to-product (R2P) with diversification of funding sources using
foundations, corporations, and individuals.
We believe that this approach gives freedom in setting research agendas, a prime concern for KRG
metamorphoses into ARATIShea institute. Agenda setting within the KRG think tank is driven by
research questions at the lowest level (researches play large role); knowledge building is the prime
determinate in what research is chosen.
We attempt to be ideologically neutral and perceive research as being for the benefit of humankind as
ARATISHEA
a whole. The above sub-unit will require interested academics and professional to apply in order to
collaborate and coordinates each unit with research agenda cum chose their team leader based on the
person contribution to knowledge and development of the subject domain.
Finally, findings will be published as ARATIShea Journal in English and French language respectively.
