Editor's Notes

  • #3 Purpose: Detroit has food deserts. Current food distribution centers (full-line grocery stores; food retailers) do not meet needs of entire population. We conducted spatial analyses Consequently, we seek to find and describe the ideal location for a future food distribution center that would address to a degree these food justice issues and better meet the needs of current Detroit residents. To locate a new food distribution center we conducted a habitat suitability model considering these criteria: Financial accessibility Transportation Density Sources: We gathered data from USDA, Michigan Geographic Data Library, City of Detroit, Data Driven Detroit, American Community Survey (2007-2011), SEMCOG
