A 36-year-old male presented with earache symptoms for 3-4 weeks. On examination, the physician noticed debris and inflammation in the right ear canal, as well as a perforation in the attic area of the right eardrum. The patient has a history of recurrent ear infections and type 1 diabetes. Differential diagnoses could include chronic suppurative otitis media or cholesteatoma. Further examination may involve an ear swab to check for infection given the debris and perforation seen. The patient's diabetes and history of recurrent infections increase his risk for recurrent ear problems.
