The document discusses possible explanations for why spirits of Civil War soldiers in Alton, Illinois cemeteries appear to still believe it is the 1860s and the war is ongoing. It suggests they may suffer from a form of post-mortem PTSD that keeps their minds trapped reliving the war, even after death. Fear of consequences on the other side or not knowing how to transition may also cause spirits to remain unrested. The author observed soldier spirits hiding and running at a cemetery, consistent with still experiencing combat from the war over 150 years ago.
What Really Happened in the Boston Massacre? The Trial of Captain Thomas PrestonMommyManderkin
My US History Presentation. It took me 5 days to complete this. The assignment is to lecture my class for one hour on the chapter of our book titled "What Really Happened at the Boston Massacre? The Trial of Captain Thomas Preston." Instead of boring them to death, I have decided to turn our classroom into the a courtroom. I will present all the evidence, and then we will deliberate on the fate of CTP. I have my Colonial Wig and my 3 Corner Hat ready... let\'s do this thing ;)
This document summarizes and analyzes the complex issues surrounding prison literature and the case of Jack Henry Abbott. It discusses Abbott's troubled upbringing, time spent in the prison system from a young age, and his talented but unreliable writing. While his writings provide insights into prison culture and generated fame, his criminal history and instability raise questions. The document also examines Norman Mailer's role in advocating for Abbott and "culture worth risk," but notes Mailer's own volatile behaviors. It concludes prison literature must be carefully studied in full context of backgrounds and biases.
This document presents a memorial for Charlie Brooks Jr., who was executed on December 1, 1982 at the age of 40, and discusses his life and upbringing as well as doubts around his conviction for murder. Brooks had a difficult life after his father's death when he was 13 and struggled with drug use and time in prison. The memorial questions the circumstances around his conviction and execution.

This document criticizes President Obama and his administration on several fronts:
1) It claims Obama is either intentionally destroying America or is the dumbest president ever due to his allegedly delusional beliefs about threats like global warming over terrorism.
2) It argues Obama ignores the true threats of terrorism and "chants of death to America" while overstating the threat of global warming, which the author believes is just natural weather patterns.
3) It criticizes Obama for inviting Bowe Bergdahl's father to the White House after his release from captivity, claiming his father sanctified the White House for Islam through his words.
4) It expresses dissatisfaction with agreements made with Iran,

The document traces how the terminology used to describe mental health issues in soldiers has evolved over time from the American Civil War to today. It begins with terms like "shell shock" and "battle fatigue" that were used for Civil War and World War I/II soldiers and discusses the transition to the current term "post-traumatic stress disorder" (PTSD). The document also provides perspectives from Vietnam veterans who argue PTSD does not fully capture their experiences and preferences for older terms like "soldier's heart" that recognize the trauma stems from following orders in war.

This document discusses Japanese internment during World War II from several perspectives:
1) It provides context about why internment occurred through examining primary sources from the time period including documentary footage and personal interviews.
2) It describes life in the internment camps through an art piece and personal accounts, highlighting the difficult conditions people faced.
3) It presents differing judicial opinions on the constitutionality of internment, with the majority opinion upholding exclusion orders while the dissent argued they punished individuals for their ancestry rather than personal actions.
Three reporters who witnessed or investigated the Kennedy assassination died under mysterious circumstances. Bill Hunter was shot and killed by a police officer in Dallas. Tom Howard died of a heart attack shortly after meeting with Jack Ruby. Jim Koethe was killed by a karate chop to the throat in his apartment. The document suggests these and other deaths may have been part of a conspiracy to cover up what really happened in the assassination of President Kennedy.

Recasting history: Lee Harvey Oswald on TrialKeith Pruitt
This document discusses the assassination of President John F. Kennedy and questions the official conclusion that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. It notes that Oswald claimed to be a "patsy" and was never brought to trial. The author was haunted by this and wondered what if Oswald was framed. Primary sources are discussed that plant seeds of doubt about the official investigation. The document suggests an historical fiction book was created that presents an alternative interpretation of the facts surrounding Kennedy's assassination with perhaps more truth than the Warren Report. The lesson for students is about exploring history through primary sources and questioning singular interpretations.

The document discusses the four types of homicide: excusable, felonious, justifiable, and praiseworthy. Excusable homicide involves killing with legal authorization from authorities, such as for law enforcement. Felonious homicide is intentional killing without legal justification, like murder. Justifiable homicide includes cases of self-defense or accidental death. Praiseworthy homicide is when a group approves of a killing, such as of a hated leader. In conclusion, the document outlines the four "supreme dictators of the crime world" or categories of homicide.
Sean Penn has a history of supporting anti-American dictators and groups. He has interviewed Hugo Chavez of Venezuela, Fidel Castro of Cuba, and Raul Castro. Penn also defended Chavez after his death. Additionally, Penn met with Saddam Hussein's deputy in Iraq and criticized the US invasion of Iraq. Penn has ties to Iran and helped secure the release of two American hikers imprisoned there. He has also expressed support for Argentina over the Falkland Islands, been photographed with the Emir of Qatar, and promoted pro-refugee stances, which support the Muslim Brotherhood's agenda. Penn uses his celebrity to promote anti-Western views and support authoritarian rulers and groups opposed to US interests.
This text analyzes a Marvel superhero film or television show. It determines that the genre is action based on elements like fighting and guns. The target audience is ages 6 and up, as the content is not overly violent and has a cartoon-like quality. Most of the main characters are depicted as white males, with some exceptions, and the female characters are shown as less powerful or strong. The narrative aligns with Todorov's five stages of equilibrium disruption, recognition, repair, and a new equilibrium, as the heroes live normally until villains escape, chaos ensues, they work to stop it, and ultimately defeat the villains and find a new balance.
This document lists the titles of 8 novels by Claudia Gray including the Evernight, Stargazer and Hourglass series. The author believes that both assassinations were the result of conspiracies and that the same conspirators were involved in both. The author argues that parties like the CIA, FBI, military leaders, and anti-Castro Cubans all had the means, motive, and opportunity to orchestrate the assassinations.
Velma Barfield wrote Woman on Death Row to tell the story of her life, crimes, imprisonment, and execution. She was the first woman executed in the US after the Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty in 1976. Barfield describes a troubled childhood with abuse and developing a severe drug addiction. Her addiction led her to steal money and eventually poison several victims. While awaiting trial, she had a religious conversion in jail and dedicated her life to helping others. Barfield was executed in 1984 but found peace with her fate, believing her conversion experience was genuine.

War causes immense physical and emotional pain for soldiers that often lasts long after the war has ended. Soldiers in war are faced with the harsh realities of life and death as they discover their shared humanity with both allies and opponents. Upon returning home, many soldiers struggle with post-traumatic stress disorder, drug and alcohol addiction, and even suicide. Exposure therapy of sharing experiences with other veterans can help ease the lasting pain of war by providing understanding and support from those who shared similar experiences.
1) PTSD afflicts many veterans returning from wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, yet the Pentagon and VA healthcare systems have been slow to recognize and treat it. As a result, some veterans' untreated PTSD has led to domestic violence, suicide, and other violent crimes.
2) Stephen Sherwood murdered his wife after returning from Iraq with untreated PTSD and survivor's guilt. Archie O'Neil also committed violence due to untreated PTSD from collecting bodies in Iraq.
3) While veterans' organizations push for better mental healthcare, some continue to deny any link between PTSD and postwar violence. Without proper acknowledgement and treatment of PTSD, its consequences will continue.

This study investigated the particle formation process for microparticles of cellulose acetate butyrate dried from an acetone solution experimentally and theoretically. Droplets between 55-70 μm were produced from solutions with concentrations of 0.37 and 10 mg/mL and dried in air flows of 30, 40, or 55°C. The drying process was recorded and hollow, elongated particles between 10-30 μm were analyzed. The early formation process was controlled by diffusion of cellulose acetate butyrate, while later stages were dominated by shell buckling and folding. This setup allowed comprehensive measurements of the entire particle formation process, including after initial shell formation.

Intelligent Hauntings and Post-Mortem PTSD in Civil War
Soldiers
The Civil War was perhaps the most traumatic conflict to have happened on
American soil. In a struggle to fight for conflicting views of slavery and the boundaries of
land, Union and Confederate soldiers, and even slaves, fought side by side with their
neighbors for the causes of freedom, civil rights, and territory. Many times the enemy
2. sighted in at the long end of a rifle barrel was a blood relative or someone the soldier
had known in some way. This created a huge and damaging rift between the people of
this country which undoubtedly caused massive heartbreak and created some very
tough internal conflict of killing someone you know or love. What made conditions
exponentially worse were the extreme environmental conditions of bad weather,
disease, and the ever-present stench of death from the decaying bodies left sprawled out
on the battlefield. Death typically came in two forms – either you slowly suffered
through an agonizing torture of an
incurable illness (diarrhea was
incredibly common), or you were
shot dead, never knowing where the
fatal bullet was fired. In both
instances the stage is set for some
unbelievably intense paranormal
activity.
If a soldier didn’t die, or wasn’t
stabbed or shot to death on the
battlefield, then they became
prisoners of war. One of the most well-known prisons in my local area is located in
Alton, Illinois. Here, Confederate soldiers were housed in a Union prison which was
named back then the Illinois State Penitentiary. It opened in 1833 with 33 cells and, by
the height of its capacity in 1862, housed over 1,600 soldiers. The living conditions here
were horrible, and they involved starvation, no shelter from the harsh weather
3. conditions, the lack of sleeping quarters, poor sanitation facilities, and rampant
diseases. Some soldiers even acquired mouth cancer, which slowly ate away their face
and made eating and drinking nearly impossible. The most common disease was
smallpox and, because it was so contagious, spread to the Union guards and killed them
as well. Nearly all of the 1,300+ soldiers who died in this prison are buried in the North
Alton Confederate Cemetery, a few miles away from the prison site. In 1865 the prison
was closed down after all the prisoners were released or sent to St. Louis. The limestone
blocks which were used to build it were excavated and used as building material
throughout the town. These same blocks can be found in churches, houses, businesses,
and even retaining walls all over the Alton area.
As for the soldiers who died in this penitentiary, their bodies were buried in
graves marked only with wooden sticks. Over time their gravesites were lost, never tobe
recovered. In an effort to represent them in some way, a Soldiers Monument has been
4. erected on the top of a hill in the cemetery’s northeast corner. Despite efforts of
providing proper burials and erecting a 58-foot granite obelisk, many of the spirits of
these soldiers are still in a state of unrest. Paranormal investigations happening in this
cemetery and in nearby Alton National Cemetery confirm this unrest and lack of closure.
Our active investigation of the Alton National Cemetery, the final resting place for many
Civil War soldiers, proved to be surprisingly successful and yielded some great results.
Our team was equipped with some very simple investigation tools. We had a
digital camera, a set of dowsing rods, and some extra batteries (entities will quickly
drain any available power to them). Our exploration of the grounds was a part of a larger
group who were also a part of an Alton Ghost Tour. In the tour group was a “Troll”, as
they call themselves. This is a person who takes up the tail end of the group, making
5. sure that no one ventures away from the group lost or gets left behind. We had a brief
conversation with her and she gave us some interesting information about the cemetery.
While we were trailing the rest of the group along the gravel pathway, we kept
getting the feeling that someone was following us. Every now and then we would hear
gravel scuffle and it wasn’t from our feet or from the “Troll’s” feet either. She saw us
looking back on the trail and came up to us. We told her we thought someone was
behind us, and she promptly agreed. There was someone following us.
There are many Civil War soldiers who still roam the grounds. She confirmed our
suspicions and told us that having the feeling that someone is following you happens all
the time, as the soldiers who roam these grounds are curious about who the people are
that pass through the cemetery. She also informed us that if you watch the trees closely,
6. you will see dark shadows peering out from behind them. The key is to watch for
movement, generally by using your peripheral vision. They run behind and out from the
tombstones as well. Sure enough, while we watched behind several different trees and
tombstones, we were about to see a few of these soldiers peeking at us. One even ran
through the trees and hid behind another tree. The “Troll” informed us that these men
believe that the Civil War is still going on. They are hiding and running just like they
would have done when they were fighting for their lives back in the 1860’s. We found
this to be quite fascinating, yet peculiar at the same time. How could it be possible
for a spirit to firmly believe the Civil War was still raging on 150 years after
this conflict ended?
For a spirit to have such a limited mindset on his surrounding and to have kept it
for over a century, there has to be some very strong reasons behind this seeming
aberration. One would think the soldier would be aware that either he has not died or
that he is still alive, but just existing in another realm. Many times, with sudden or long
agonizing deaths, the person who has passed does not realize that they have crossed
over death’s doorstep. In their confusion they exist as lost spirits, constantly striving for
some explanation. The soldiers in the Alton National Cemetery dointeract with
investigators, and, as such are considered intelligent hauntings. This is different from
residual hauntings, which are essentially historic events that repeat themselves over and
over again. With the soldiers and the intelligent interactions, there must be more to the
mystery than just a simple lack of realization that they are dead. Some other factors
must come into play here. What could they be?
7. Recently my wife and I were watching the movie “American Sniper”. In it the
main character Chris Kyle experiences some of the most severe forms of post-traumatic
stress disorder (PTSD) a soldier can endure. After doing 4 tours in Iraq, he came back to
his wife and kids an empty shell. Vans resembling those in the Middle East fired off his
PTSD, causing nervous suspicion. Any kind of a conflict, like a dog playing too rough
with a child, would set off his “kill or be killed” impulse. To quote his wife, “You are here
physically, but mentally you’re somewhere else.” This gave me some ideas. Could it be
possible that the Civil War soldiers were experiencing a severe form of PTSD, which kept
their minds trapped in the throes of war, while their spirits had moved on to the next
level of existence? Might this be considered post-mortem PTSD?
Although we, as of yet, cannot really know the reasons why spirits remain
trapped on this physical plane, there are some good assumptions why this is true. These
hypothesis form the basis for the “other factors” in the question that was asked earlier.
8. When a spirit has unfinished business here they remain as an attempt to finish the task
and bring closure. In the case of a PTSDCivil War soldier, the unfinished business
would obviously be to finish the war and ensure that their side won. With Chris Kyle, he
was always beating himself up for the Marines who were killed whom he could not save.
This drove him to continuously return to Iraq, even when he wasn’t physically there. In
the case of a Union soldier, the same result would be achieved whereby the incredible
intensity of the war would continuously drive the soldier to fight on. Psychologically he
would be locked into this state of mind and, in the process of crossing over the spiritual
veil, this mentality would continue to endure and keep him locked on the battlefield.
Just like Chris, the soldier’s mind would be in one place while his spirit is in another.
This is one possible way that Civil War soldiers still believe it is the 1860s.
Fear of what lies on the other side will also drive a spirit to remain here on our
plane of existence. If a soldier believes that in crossing over death’s doorstep he will
meet his personal hell, especially the guilt of being held accountable for killing a fellow
brother, then clearly that fear can drive him to continue fighting the war. Better to be
here in the more predictable world, than to face the consequences of what lies on the
other side. Sometimes, as well, people just simply don’t know how to find the light to
make the transition. They will roam properties like the North Alton Cemetery and the
Alton National Cemetery looking for answers they will never find. Many times
paranormal investigators can attempt to facilitate the process of final closure, by guiding
them in the right direction and praying for their souls to come to rest.
For some spirits, like the Alton Civil War soldiers, that closure will never come.
They live out their day to day lives on the lookout for the enemy and continuously
9. suspicious about anyone who enters the cemetery. Perhaps they see us as ghosts just as
we experience them in the forms of shadows, light anomalies, and sounds. They
probably no more understand our world than we understand theirs. For these intelligent
hauntings, the battle must be won at all costs because their minds have been completely
consumed with the most damaging psychological condition known to humankind. Post-
mortem PTSD.
