Unit 1 Knowing Me, Knowing You 
Lat – A famous cartoonist : Datuk Mohammad Nor Khalid. 
He was born on 5th March 1951 in Perak. 
His parents called him Lat, which means round ( bulat ). 
He started drawing at 9 years old. 
His father gave him paper to draw. 
His first comic book ‘Tiga Sekawan’ was published in 1964. 
He moved to Kuala Lumpur in 1970 and worked for Berita Harian newspaper as a crime 
reporter. 
Later, he drew cartoons for New Straits Times newspaper. 
His first book, Kampung Boy which was based on his childhood days was published in 
1979. 
In 2002, he was awarded the Arts and Culture Prize at the 13th Fukuoka Asian Culture 
Prizes in Japan. 
In 1994, he was given the title Datuk. 
He is now living in Ipoh with his family and still drawing and displaying his cartoons at 
exhibitions. 
His cartoons always appear in comic books, magazines and newspapers which show the 
friendships of Malaysian and reflect the unique culture of Malaysians.

The Haven 
A builder named Effendi was famous for constructing buildings and houses. 
Effendi’s brother, Hafizi, was a nature lover. He loved birdwatching, jungle trekking 
and camping in ‘ The Haven ‘ . 
‘ The Haven ‘ was a place with land and water. It was called a wetland. 
The wetland was a home to many types of flora and fauna. 
A lot of animals like hornbills, peacocks, frogs, tortoises and fish lived there. 
On some of his jungle trekking, he saw many types of animals and he enjoyed nature.

Inoki 
Emperor Yamashito sent a precious crystal ball to Emperor Sasaki to save Prince Hiro 
who was suffering from a strange illness. 
The ship carrying the crystal ball was caught in a terrible storm. 
It sank to the bottom of the sea. 
Emperor Yamashito wanted to reward anyone who could find the crystal ball. 
Inoki, a young widow, wanted a better life for her son. 
So she told the emperor that she was able to find the crystal ball for him. 
Then she was allowed to be taken to the place where the ship sank. 
Inoki brought along a dagger, a rope tied around her waist and dived into the sea.

He injured his left eye when he was three years old. By the age of four he was

He studied at the school for the blind in Paris using books which were made of

Louis was an intelligent student.

  • 1. English Language Module Year 6 Unit 1 Knowing Me, Knowing You Lat – A famous cartoonist : Datuk Mohammad Nor Khalid. He was born on 5th March 1951 in Perak. His parents called him Lat, which means round ( bulat ). He started drawing at 9 years old. His father gave him paper to draw. His first comic book ‘Tiga Sekawan’ was published in 1964. He moved to Kuala Lumpur in 1970 and worked for Berita Harian newspaper as a crime reporter. Later, he drew cartoons for New Straits Times newspaper. His first book, Kampung Boy which was based on his childhood days was published in 1979. In 2002, he was awarded the Arts and Culture Prize at the 13th Fukuoka Asian Culture Prizes in Japan.
